BREAKING NEWS: Actor Patrick Swayze has died after a long battle with cancer.
The actor had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year.
The publicist for the Dirty Dancing and Ghost star announced his death this morning. He was 57.
"Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months," a statement by his publicist, Annett Wolf, said.

He had kept working despite the diagnosis, putting together a memoir with his wife and shooting The Beast, an A&E cable television drama series for which he had already made the pilot.
It drew a respectable 1.3 million viewers when the 13 episodes ran in 2009, but A&E said it had reluctantly decided not to renew it for a second season.

Swayze said he opted not to use painkilling drugs while making The Beast because they would have taken the edge off his performance.
He acknowledged that time might be running out given the grim nature of the disease.

A three-time Golden Globe nominee, Swayze became a star with his performance as the misunderstood bad-boy Johnny Castle in Dirty Dancing.
As the son of a choreographer who began his career in musical theatre, he seemed a natural to play the role.

A coming-of-age romance starring Jennifer Grey as an idealistic young woman on holiday with her family and Swayze as the resort's sexy (and much older) dance instructor, the film made great use of both his grace on his feet and his muscular physique.
It became an international phenomenon in the summer of 1987, spawning albums, an Oscar-winning hit song in (I've Had) the Time of My Life, stage productions and a sequel, 2004's Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, in which he made a cameo.

Patrick Swayze's Dirty Dancing and Ghost co-stars led tributes after the actor lost his two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Jennifer Grey, who shared the screen with Swayze in 1987's Dirty Dancing, called the actor "a rare and beautiful combination of raw masculinity and amazing grace".
She continued: "Gorgeous and strong, he was a real cowboy with a tender heart - he was fearless and insisted on always doing his own stunts, so it was not surprising to me that the war he waged on his cancer was so courageous and dignified."
Demi Moore - who starred with Swayze in 1990 romance Ghost - praised the actor, saying his "light will shine forever".
In the film the actress played Molly Jensen, the widow of murdered Sam Wheat, played by Swayze.
She said: "Patrick you are loved by so many and your light will forever shine in all of our lives."
Demi added: "And in the words of Sam to Molly, 'It's amazing Molly. The love inside, you take it with you.'
"I love and will miss you Patrick."
Whoopi Goldberg, who played a medium who helps Molly communicate with her dead fiancee in the film, also paid tribute after the actor died aged 57.
"Patrick was a really good man, a funny man and one to whom I owe much that I can't ever repay. I believe in Ghost's message, so he'll always be near," she said.
