I like to buy an occasional lottery ticket, but I've been to AC (Atlantic City) only once since it opened in the 80's. Lately I was thinking I might like to bet on a game. In NJ, even though we have a lottery and legal casinos, you still can't bet on sports unless you go through a book maker (bookie). I don't think those guys are even around anymore - not that I would know.

So does anyone know anyone who bets on US sports on line? How do they do it? Are the book makers honest and reliable?

Most are reliable. Stick to the bigger, popular places and you'll be fine. Bodog, Pinnacle, um, there are others.

Of course, state lotteries are ok, and betting on horse and dog racing is ok, and gambling in Vegas or on an Indian reservation or other places is ok, but betting on other sports or on the internet supposedly isn't, and the wonderful U.S. government has gone to various lengths to stop it, including stealing Bodog's url from them, passing the RIDICULOUS Internet Gambling Act by sneaking it into a Port Authority bill (assholes), STEALING millions of dollars from Bodog and PokerStars players, and other forms of government thuggery.

It is a FELONY to gamble online in Washington State. Free country? What?
