View Full Version : Guess I'll never be purchasing Corsair again

Upon purchasing a 16GB Corsair Flash Voyager I had high reliability hopes on reading W1zzard's Review (http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Corsair/FlashVoyager1GB/4.html) of the 1GB Flash Voyager. He froze it, put it in a toaster, ran over it by car...... and it kept working.
So I was surprised when merely weeks after purchase the pendrive quit on me (http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=75671).
RMA to OcUK was promptly followed by a brand new 16GB drive sealed in blister pack which if I remember well I received within 5 days or so.
Drive functioned fine since last November. Till yesterday. :(
Now if I insert it in any of my vista pc's I get either a BSOD or freezing. And if I insert it in my XP pc's it shows empty when opened, properties show it's 100% full and it's invisible in disk management as you can see here (http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=104491).
Other no-name cheapo pendrives function just fine on all my computers.
Heck I'm a bit pi$$ed off to put it bluntly for the following reasons:
1) I learnt from experience that it's the norm for trouble to start after expiry of warranty, not before.
2) It's my SECOND rma on this item (though I got a new replacement), and it appears kinda.... out of the ordinary.
3) Item's got a whopping 10 years warranty... and this is my 2nd rma in less than a year...
4) During my 2 year custom I've bought around USD 1000 in stuff from OcUK - I want to keep up my good reputation as a customer with them.
5) I got stuff on this pendrive which I would like to remove just in case it somewhat decides to 'work' for somebody else....
6) For rma OcUK demand that item be returned with original packaging. Now I had kept the original plastic blister pack for my first rma... but never imagined that I would be needing stuff for the second rma nearly a year later. So I can't find the plastic blister pack and I'm afraid I threw it away...

Sounds like OcUK got a bad lot #. It's their job to report troublesome bunches to the manufacturer. Bad luck for you to get two faulty sticks in a row. :(
The largest flash memory stick/card I ever got was 4 GB (yes, they don't go by GiB either). I rarely use the ones I have and <= 4 GiB means FAT32 will do.

Guess so. I rule out possible foul play (like they sending me the same stick) since both were received in sealed blister-packs... :/

Probably I won't be buying OcUK again
Sent them a couple of webnotes since my last post in this thread... they always say that they will ship as soon as they have stock. I reply telling them every time that they have 5 in stock.... days later they have 3 in stock and I keep webnoting them, and I keep receiving replies "yes sirr, item is going to be shipped with this order numer xxxxxx" (spelling error and all).
Now stock dwindled to 0...
My order number doesn't even exist in their records.
Confirmed OcUK are just (poop) (poop) (poop) and more (poop).
The first time I rma'd this stick I got a replacement within 3 days.
Now I've been without stick since 23rd September.
They damn made sure that I won't try to attempt an rma again.
And I know well it isn't Royal Mail's industrial dispute at fault here - I bought a processor from Pantherx12 (TPU) - I paid it on 28th Oct and on the 30th Oct it was on my doorstep, same UK-Malta Royal Mail.

Just sent them this webnote today, OcUK are really disastrous this time with me!!
Dear Sir, can you kindly inform me on what's happened?
It's been a month and a half now since I rma'd. You told me you will send as soon as you get stock, when at that time you had 3 in stock and none was shipped to me...
Now there are 5 in stock and I don't see my order being shipped once more!
I can't understand why my rights aren't being respected, apparently I have no choice except to voice my complaint through other means?

What utter bollocks!
Dear BP,
Very sorry we have not dispatched us, for some reason there was an error in your address, this has now been amended and should leave for you today.
.
Regards,
Dean Hillier
So uhh, that's why they always replied to my previous enquiries saying that they didn't have stock even though they did have?
Because there was an error in my address?

It's possible. Depends how specific their error messages are.

late to the game but <sarcasm>cmon you read the review right? it said he froze it and ran it over. If you want yours to work you're gonna to have to do the same. </sarcasm>

Nope. W1zzard never mentioned for how long it kept working after doing all of that...
