Man has 'phobia of women'

A 27-year-old man believes he is suffering a phobia of women.

Neil Dando, of Worthing in West Sussex, suspects he is afflicted by chronic "loveshyness": a psychological condition that means he cannot approach a female without experiencing an anxiety attack.

"At work, because it is purely professional, it is fine," he told the Daily Telegraph. "It is only when I get attracted to a girl that it really affects me.

"There have even been cases when I have pretended to like somebody just to see if I can get over it. But the more I talk, the more I start thinking and the same anxiety halts me mid-sentence."

Dando learned about the condition from a book written in 1987 by American professor Brian Gilmartin, called Shyness and Love: Causes, Consequences and Treatment.

"I realised I had been foolish spending my life thinking I had just been unlucky and that someone would come along eventually," he added.

Loveshyness is just one of the UK's more unusual phobias. Other afflictions include a fear of kneecaps, an aversion to the sight of some frozen peas, and even a fear of the colour yellow.

My kneecaps tell me riddles all the time, its quite annoying, too bad I have ignorophobia and have to listen to them.

Jokes aside, I'm not entirely convinced that these classify as phobias, I think its more of an unusual relationship with the items you "fear".

Cotton wool--not really a phobia (I don't get phobia symptoms) but I avoid coming into contact with the stuff.

I think what this guy is describing has happened to every man at one point or another, eventually you get the cojones to cross that line. Seems like he's stuck in middleschool. I work at a grocery store and people ask me questions all the time, and I've been halted mid sentence when I turned around and seen a looker, it's a natural reaction.

Don't say it's because of IT, because even when I was a kid that movie was lame. :p
