Depends, on a few things...
1) How liquid do you want it to be? For example, withdrawl years from now or in a day.
2) Are you looking to just keep the money safe (save) or make money on it (invest)?
Banks have crappy interest rates but, as long as it is insured, the money is safe. You won't make much money on it (inflation actually means you lose money on it) but at least it is liquid (easily accessible) and guarenteed to be there.
Stocks aren't safe but the potential to make (and lose) a lot of money is there. You never want to put money you need into stocks because you could lose it all in a matter of days; moreover, investing in stocks as a long term investment is generally a good strategy. Just like bonds though, you got to keep the money in there.

as i don't need the money now it could be somewhere for a few years.
every bank that operates in Slovenia is now insured for 100% by the state. so i can't lose the money even if the bank would go bankrupt.

Sure, diversification is always a good thing. Depending on your age, you might even want to look into retirement savings accounts. Remember, if you have a savings account, the most important thing is to keep adding to it and refrain from taking it out. No one every has gotten rich without saving.

The younger you are when you start saving for retirement, the more you'll have stashed away when you do retire. ;)

So? I was 21 and I purchased Mutual Funds for my RRSP (Registered Retirement Savings Plan). You want to put it away early instead of later as that gives it the most chance to grow over the next 45 years. If you feel like you've got excess money, put a chunk away for retirement.

Or just blow it on goodies, like me. You never know if you'll live to see tomorrow, after all. lol :D
Get hold of bonds. They are guaranteed to be profitable, so you can't loose money. They are safe, too. Your money will be away quite some time, with some bonds you'll see your money again in 10 years, but with very good interest rates.

The best investment ever would always be property.
However, €4000 is too little even for a small garage....
Depends on how long it took you to save them, you could invest in bonds (taking care of maturity dates) so when you manage to save more you could buy some property...
Personally, I'd just blow it out on hardware... I'm not suggesting you do the same though!

With bonds, make sure the interest rate will keep up with inflation. Very few do.

my old man has already scored around £8000 (8699.48 Euros???) from playing around on the stockmarket this year & he aint even a big time trader. To him stocks is just a small hobby to earn a few hundred to make ends meet.
so you wont lose it if your smart enough to pick the right shares. dont just think about short term investments - think about long term as well. set your self a target for example £1000 to buy X amount of shares in whatever company & dont touch it for a year or 2 the rest you can blow on short term, if you really need the cash.

thats quite good money for a hobby.
some companies here lost 80% of their stock value. the problem is where to invest. one of the biggest companies here went benkrupt. 3000 ppl on the street.
the only smart thing would a farmasugical company.

I wouldn't put a lot of money on pharmaceuticals, especially if the Obama administration has their way (and they will).

well I not too sure about the American stockmarket. but banks a good oppotunities. but youve sorta missed the boat on that one.... banks still hold some good money but you missed the point where it almost fell to nothing & now its up 60-80p (P= Pence) per share
theres still money to be made but not not as much as when the market competely crashed due to recssion
