I had a life policy with them, supposedly maturing in 2018.
To pay it, I had a savings account where the money gets transferred automatically.

Happened a couple of years ago I just received a notice in the post to send payment. Which I promptly did. Same thing occured the following year and the following.

Later it transpired that there hadn't been enough funds in the savings account (I use another bank for my day-to-day stuff). I also noticed in my yearly statement that I had been being charged €30 for three times around the time that I effected payment.

I made an appointment with them.
First thing out of my mouth was why I wasn't informed about there not being funds. My other bank always did...
Second thing, why 3 times in a row every time? I mean if there's no water in the tap it's useless banging on it because water won't come out unless one reports the fault!
The answer was that it's the "automated computer's fault"

3 Days ago I went there personally and told the clerk to cancel the life policy. That said and done, she said my funds were transferred to my savings account.

Today I went to close my savings account (feeling very happy it was my last entry into an HSBC bank...)

After signing some papers and leaving me there alone (with a queue behind me) for 45 minutes, the clerk returned and dropped some €8
We stared at each other for some long seconds...

Then I asked him what the fuck is this for?
He replied 'Thats the balance in your account'.
I told him it's not possible, I got my entire live saving policy in that account and I wanted it all in cash.........

His reply?
"Nope... Your life policy is still here."
Me - "I cancelled it and it's supposed to be in the savings'
Him - "Nope not only it is not in the savings but it's not even been cancelled. On my pc I see it as an ACTIVE policy".
Me- Can you call Ms X... she cancelled my life policy 3 days ago...
Him - You can speak to one of our consellors on the right.

I take a glance around. All the tables are empty... there's no staff at all.

I mumble some stuff I don't remember but which made the policeman at the door eye me a bit too suspiciously..... and leave immediately.

Now my money... it's in a vacuum.
The life policy is supposed to be closed.... and they had to be transferred to savings.
BUT I just closed my savings. The clerk told me that account closure is not reversible... And that my life policy is still as active as ever...

DUH HSBC really SUCKS big time...

I call fraud.

I'd go in there early, politely demand to see a manger, tell them about the account closures, and the banks failure to comply with your demands. If the manger refuses to do anything about it, it's time to report it to whatever agency in Malta oversees banking.

Failing that, lawyer up and sue the bank.

Any company that handles money sucks. Customer care is not something they give a damn about. Unfortunately that's a fact of modern life. Had my own fair share of useless crap with banks lately, very tiring.

Also, it would have been even better if he gave you €10 and asked for €2 back :P

I had a similar situation - but not even half as bad - - Im with small bank called Nationwide Building Society.

a year ago - I recieved a £60 overdraft from them...why? I went to my local branch, spoke to an adviser about the issue & the best excuse she came up with was "Because you didnt use the banks own cashpoint - the machine you used does not have a direct link to your funds, therefore couldnt tell/see if you had any cash in your account or not"

for those of you that dont know - Nationwide isnt as big & popular as Loyds TSB, Halifax, HSBC & the like so their OWN cashpoints are few & far between.

I told the lady - Ive been using Barclays, Loyds & HSBC's cashpoint for years without trouble & in any case. if the current machine cant see if i have funds or not - shouldnt it just deny my request all together rather then just give me money without looking???

*awkward silence ensues*

I just looked at her & straight out said that i refuse to pay for it because it wasnt a problem with me & if they still wanted me to pay up then I will take the matter up with a Small Claims court because I will not be made to pay for their incompetance.

Needless to say, She wrote off the overdraft.

I called Ms X (the one who had cancelled my life policy)....

"Uh Oh, didn't I tell you that it'd take a week or two for the transaction to go through and the money to get transferred?"

I'd believe her if we were 2 centuries ago.......

Anyway, I should be receiving a cheque in the mail now...
Let's see...

Banks only care about you if you have money, make them money, or are too stupid to use money.

Bought my home, cars, etc... through my bank, and I took them a cashiers check from another bank back east, which the promptly held for 5 days. It was only 7K, and a cashiers check. I told the bank manager if it ever happened again I would bank elsewhere.

Banks use this as "float" as tehy never actually ahve that much cash on hand. the rest of the money they need to perate, is based on prime rates which they borrow from larger banks, and larger banks borrow from international banks, or from the federal reserve float. he got red faced when i confronted him about the use of my cash for his banks immidiate needs for whatever reason.

oh yeah banks, motherfuckers.

got this letter from my bank not so long ago. Prior to this I had been paying no bank fees, and they wanted to sting me $5 a month. so I got a better deal at another bank and sent it straight back, personally addressed to the man who "signed" it.

Kudos! I'd do that to HSBC if they sent something I'd have to return.

Well, they called me and told me that I'd be receiving a cheque for my money and I promptly transferred it to the other bank which I also use for our business.

Well... good riddance at last.
They're such morons... they even reversed the charges which originated the dispute way before I had removed all my accounts. BUT they didn't inform me! Had they done so perhaps I'd have let sleeping dogs lie and kept my life policy active... But no... I got to know only afterwards when I had already cancelled everything. Duh now it's too late and I'm happy having what little moneys I have in a good bank which I really trust, and which respects me as a customer.

I have an HSBC Credit card, and been duking it with an Local Auto-rental place in PENN where i stayed with a friend for about a month. I needed the car to get to the airport, so i call them up and get a car.. well as it turns out a friend can take me so i dont need the car, i call the place 3 minutes later and tell them i dont need the car and they want to charge me the FULL amount for it! some $80 which is UBER BS since i didnt even step foot in the friggin place!

Needless to say i fought it, HSBC however is being a total F-ing DOUCHE with it, after months of "investigating" they credit me, then they charge me, then they credit me back the amount then charge me again.. because they tried to contact me via phone/e-mail/letter which is of course total BS because i never recieved one e-mail or phone call(no left messages)

On this i finally call them up and seeing that they charged me for it and they tell me that it will be credited weeks go by no credit i call them up again and find that they havent credited me and the case is "closed" now i have to RE-OPEN it and its just being a total hassle.

I want to cancel the credit-card but being as the American Economy is with Credit-lines i get turned down because i dont "have enough credit history"(I'm only 21 been using CC for the past 2 years+)
