View Full Version : Rhinoplasty??

So... hey I want to look like a rhino.... aren't they just awesome?
..
..
Kidding apart....
It's the nose-job thing...
Saying the truth, I got a big nose.. with a bump... anyway I'm so very NOT happy about it and have been so since my pre-teen years.
Thing is, I'm afraid because I'm alone in this.
Both parents keep insisting that I don't need it - and instil fear that I might end up with a nose worse than my current one.
Same goes for my partner of 15 years... he keeps saying that he likes me just the way I am...
But that's not the point...
I'm afraid, for one thing because everyone is against my decision, and secondly I've got a genuine fear (don't want to end up with a Michael Jackson nose or worse.. god bless his soul..)
So... this being GN and all, did anyone here get a nose job or know anyone who did? Perhaps your mom or sister or cousin? What about the result? Did the bruising last? Was it worth?
Please reply... I need the feedback for my own sake . . .

All I know is that it hurts bad to breath through your nose until it heals.

Any surgery has risks of course, but I believe these things are normally done in the surgeon's office and so on an out-patient basis. Personally, I would want any procedure done in a hospital - even if there is only a remote chance of complications.
Sculpting the cartilage should be straight forward. The incisions would be made inside the nasal passage. The problem is that the cartilage can shrink (or expand too IIRC) so it's impossible to determine the precise shape it will take. That I think is where the artistry of the surgeon comes in - being able to accurately guess how to do the sculpting so that the final result is as close to what you wanted as possible.
The bony bump is a bit more complicated and involves chiseling away the unwanted bone. I would guess you would have to be under general anesthesia for this but I don't know. If so, I would insist on this being done in a hospital.
The cartilage manipulations can be done under a local anesthetic IIRC.
The best thing to do is go to several surgeons who have been recommended by a patient. You will have to pay for their time, but you will get a feel for how simple or difficult the procedure is likely to be. Also, and established surgeon probably won't try to push you into an operation just to get the fee.
Once you've narrowed down the list of potential surgeons, check with the state board of medical examiners to see if there have been any complaints. Some states make this information available, but some don't.
Good luck.

A friend of mine got one. I never really noticed the difference - she was equally attractive before and after, so I never understood the point. But it seemed to make her happy. I had been meaning to ask her out for years but she went through successive boyfriends and it never seemed like the time was right. Then I went away to England and when I came back she was engaged. Dammit. Oops sorry for changing the subject there.
I guess my point is getting this sort of thing done is just for you, other people's opionions won't change yours. You have to think about this introspectively.

if you knew what they do with a nose job (hammer and chisel) you wouldn't want one.
My nose is a Roman nose best way to live with it... take the piss out of it.

I broke my nose, well, more like demolished it and still can't breathe right through one nostril, and once I weighted the benefits VS the problems of nasal surgery it was a no brainer.

Rhinoplasty has become very simple and painless over the years. If you're absolutely sure about what you want, you won't end up like Michael Jackson. The incision will be usually made on the underside of your nose, so you won't have any scars on your nose.

BP, your beautiful just the way you are...
//expects immediate thanks...
If it makes you happy, do it. But gather enough info first, so that you are absolutely sure you want it.
I've just seen a ratehr blurry picture of you, so I don't know how exactly you look... but yeah as said, it is for you.

I think that you are a very attractive woman, and your husband is an extremely lucky fellow. I can't see any reason, from this picture, why you would want or need to change your appearance. No disrespect intended, but alot of women would pay for surgery to be built like you are below your necklace!:) I guess self esteem means differnt things to different people. For what it's worth, I would encourage you to keep the face you were born with, it looks great, sophisticated.

dont change a thing BP your really pretty and though like said before looks and beauty mean many diffirent things to diffirent people. but your incredably beautiful like also said before we get surgerys here all the time so people look in the same catagory as yourself. not just below the necklace. I personally dont think its worth it and in my honest opinion i really hope you dont go through with it.
EDIT: sorry i just read the title and realized after i read the whole thread....after i orig posted. that infact you just want the facts...regardless of the resistence from others *SIGH* FINE though ill state it again that it isnt needed. though if you really want it make sure
1. you have a good idea of what you want it to look like.
2. basically do a background check of the DOCs like said above
3. during your interviews with them explain VERY clearly what you want..what you want it to look like and then ask them how that is going to be acheived and how difficult it will be.
4. absolutely prepare youself for the change. though you may want it alot of people dont like change..it might look nice to you before but after its done its done. even if it looks like you wanted you still might not be happy.
5 ask about feeling and scarring how much how long how noticable.
kk done

The only reason you should ever get a nose job is if you're experiencing breathing problems, usually caused by it being broken too many times (as is my case) or if you were born with poor nasal construction and it's preventing you from breathing properly.
Beside, if it's only for cosmetic purposes and your partner loves you how you are and you're happy with your partner then what's really the point?

Cosmetic surgery is like crack. You take the first hit, you might get addicted and go back again and again....
...then you end up like Miss argentina dying from butt surgery.

I've had reconstructive surgery on my nose and it hurt afterwards but it wasn't too bad. I was in a bad car accident and my nose was broken in three places and smashed against my face. The surgery went very well and my nose works perfect now. You'd never know I've had it rebuilt.
I know how you feel though as I never liked my nose either. In fact our nose (viewing your pic) are quite similar. I even had the slight bump too but when they re-did my nose they removed that. Now my nose is long and thin. I've always disliked it though my family don't see any problem. My Wife likes me just the way I am too.
This is my nose though so I'll stick with it. I've had it for 37 years now anyway. lol

Do it if it makes you happy. If I wanted to I would. As with any surgery there are risks but they are very slim.
