You should pick up some Cobra R rims for that JC, that or take off those 205's :p
Looks like balloons on the rims, why not go a bit wider on the tires? Nice looking VW though.
those are BBS Rs's lol I dont have those any more I have 15x8s on stretched 195 50 15s they are quite a bit wider

No cash for Cobra R's, but believe me when I say that I am trying. Rear tires are at about 40% left, so a change will be happening soon. Unless I get some cash flow, I will probably wind up putting 245/50/R16's on it. Will look a damn sight better than whats on it.
Yeah, tires + rims can get expensive. I was saying Cobra R's only because for some odd reason it looks like your car sits quiet high, my sister has a 96 Mustang 3.8L, but it looks dead on like a GT, has the same rims as yours, but there doesn't seem to be that much wheel gap. Could just be those tiny tires though, I actually like those rims on her car, so proper tires might fill yours out much better.
Hows your car running now, got all the bugs worked out?

Why stretch tires to fit? Need more contact patch, not less. At least your not sporting your bead sealed way down with your rims lip exposed though.

It's probably the dinky tires, but these mustangs sit up like a 4x4 unless lowered. I had it sitting next to my mom's 89 IROC-Z and the mustang has tons more clearance than the Iroc does. From the way things are looking, I will wind up putting some 245's on there.
Most of the bugs are worked out. Still have the ticking, but only because I haven't changed out all of the lash adjusters yet.

Oh I know it's the looks, VW owners for the most part are beyond rice, rusted hoods, tires far down on the bead to expose the rim lip, severely negatively cambered tires, wheel spacers, too many things VW owners do that just boggles my mind. I was pretty sure your car had some good stuff under the hood though, and speed comes before looks, no point in putting any power under the hood if your stretching tires to fit on rims, won't have any traction.

Doesn't make it any less stupid. Using a tire out of it's designed range is unsafe, plain and simple. And furthermore, their logic is broken, what good is a wider wheel, if you can't fit a wider tire to it? Not even taking into account safety, it provides no benefits at all. It's not like it improves handling. You would be better served putting the same size tires on a wheel less wide. It would work better.
Again, it serves no purpose, is unsafe, and all around stupid on every level. The overwhelming need for VW fans to be different confuses the hell out of me, especially when it amounts to doing things that are actually detrimental to safety and usability. Extreme camber angles, stretched tires, over-lowering, staggered wheels on a fwd. The stupidity is endless. All of these hurt safety and performance, and shouldn't been done to a car that actually gets driven.
This whole rant is based on fact and common sense, and doesn't even take into account my personal opinion. Which is that all of these things pretty much look stupid to begin with. It's worse than rice.

You think its dumb and that's okay I wouldn't want everyone to like the same thing as me it would piss me off. so people with 1000whp cars that is not safe on the streets right? yet i mention stretched tires and all hell breaks lose LOL come on man. its the least concern in automotive safety seeing that there is no proof it is unsafe ask the people who run them such as myself on all 4 vw's i have owned in the last 5 years or the 80000 dubs that have them now. and btw i'm not stupid i have been around this for a long time :) But you say its rice? You can deny it all you want revenge, but stretched tires are, in fact, more unsafe than non-stretched tires. You are running the tires out of spec. That's not safe. The "I've never seen it" defense doesn't hold water. You are simply wrong. The only benefit is looks in the eyes of some, yet all other attributes are negative. Being different is fine, being different at the expense of safety and usability is stupid. It's rice on a whole new level. I don't care what kind of car it's on, it doesn't matter, it's a safety hazard.
A 1000HP car make infinitely more sense because you don't have to use all 1000hp. Put stretched tires on your car, and you are forced to use them the whole time they are on there. It's more like trying to throw a 1000HP engine in a car with only subframe connectors. Sure, it might hold up just fine for countless runs, but one day, something is going to give.
Running absolutely anything out of spec affords some risks, but it's especially bad you you do it to the only things on your car that actually touch the road.
And I would happily tell anyone with stretched tires to their face that what they are doing is stupid. The person driving the car isn't the only one that can be affected by it's safety.
The only time it's acceptable is on a trailer queen, plain and simple.

It's not just VW, but thats why the rest of those are called Eurotrash. I don't like how it looks, but it goes beyond that. I'm about performance, and there is no point in putting anything under the hood, than going and doing anything to take away from the power your making. And if it was unsafe you would be dead? I've done far too many unsafe things and I'm still here, it's just luck, and bad luck doesn't mean you die, it could mean you fubar your rims or hit something else if a problem occurs.
The difference between 1000hp cars and stretched tires is, those people are doing everything possible to make that car perform like it should. They aren't going to stick on some 10" wide rims and stretch tires to fit them, they are going to ride around on DR's, or on a tire that fits the rim, they are probably going to have a roll cage, possible a fire extinguisher, they will have a rotating assembly and tranny to handle that power, the brakes to stop it also. When building something with that kind of power, you build it to stand that power, it's impressive on it's own, doesn't need stretched tires or heavily camber wheels that could possibly make the car unstable at high speeds.
And rice is a state of mind, he didn't say it was rice, he said it's worse than rice, and I did also. Ricers do things that they think look cool, carbon hoods, black (fake carbon hoods) spoilers, stickers, none of that severely effects driving habits or has a chance to effect them of the car. And beyond that, they don't go out and make their hood rusty, I don't even understand how thats cool, I see a ton of cars here with rusty hoods. So yes the RS4's are Eurotrash, not rice, but it's the drivers, I mean hell I've seen riced Mustangs and Vettes, a stupid owner can make something into what it's not suppose to be.
The amount of traction doesnt change... but i'm pretty sure youre much more likely to have a blowout, or worse, bend your rims when you hit a pothole.
Yes it does, when you can fit 245mm tires on a rim and you put on 195mm tires, you loose 50mm of width that could be a bonus contact patch giving more traction.

The point of reference i was using was the tire, not the rim. (ie, a 195mm tire will have just as much traction on any rim, no matter what kind of rim the tire was made for) Yes indeed if the rim is the point of reference, you are losing traction. (toast)
And I even kind of like the look of the tires... but i agree, if it aint a trailer queen (which i have a bad view of those anyway...) then no good. The tire was designed to hold up the car with the correct shape. To make the bead further out like that gets rid of the shock absorbing affect of the shape of the tire. Keep running em like that, you'll eventually fuck up your rims.
Good analogy too, Kurgan. Its like building a 1000hp machine and leaving on the stock brakes.

Bah. My Toyo M93 750/16s grind all other tires, stretched or not, into bits of steel belted dust. Tall and skinny equals more pounds per foot on the ground, which means going any where you want, summer or winter. M93s grab like you have chains on all the time, which is a good thing in Montana. Like I said at least you don't have your bead sealed way down for the rim lip to be exposed. But, I'm pretty sure you have quiet a bit under the hood, giving away contact patch for looks, just something I would never do. There a lot of cars more powerful on the road than mine, and on a 35mph mash it'll down shipping and keep my traction control light flashing to 50mph, or sometimes the TC will just kick in and own me. As soon as I can't get some wider rubber on there I will.

His car isn't a winter car, and his car wouldn't be running massively wide tires. Whoever your pulling out of the ditch doesn't know how to drive plain and simple, my car is lowered and I'm running on 235's and I blew through the christmas snow storm. That snowfall on day 1 was deeper than my car is off the ground, I had to use my front bumper to plow 5 blocks to the main road and go through a snowbank to get onto that, and wasn't plowed day 2 (when it also snowed deeper than my car is high), and I had to plow back in and that was wet shitty snow.

If you call basic operation using a lowered car to plow snow 5 blocks then maybe, but I'd say thats a bit better then operating, especially for some fat FWD tires. I would like some winter rims though that are maybe a bit skinnier, but that would make me even more sad on dry days, anything under 50 is a no traction zone :/

Timing of the balancer could both cause that, got to love trial and error :/
Set the timing, it was off a tad and the shudder is reduced, but still there. From what I can tell, the harmonic balancer ok. Going to be doing compression tests, see if I have a burnt or stuck valve somewhere.

Good choice, I am not a fan of those damned explorers. They ride worse than my IROC does, they get shit gas mileage, and they are freaking unreliable. The S10 blazer is my favorite, but the Grand Cherokee is nice too.

3rd Gen birds always looked good to me, lots of room under the hood to, any plans for it? And whats it got right now? 5.0 or 5.7 (hopefully not a 6 popper)
Well I got a new battery and spark plugs for it. Originally I was planning to paint it black, get some black rims, and a nice sounding exhaust, but I'm most likely getting a truck now meaning I'll have to sell it.

Nice. I bet that Acura feels really agile compared to the boat like cougar.
It does feel more agile, but now a whole lot better actually. The Cougar had fully independent suspension and was a bit wider. Motortrend put the Thunderbird/Cougar through a 600-ft slalom at 63.2 MPH and the CL through it at 63.6 MPH. Lateral acceleration is a whole lot better though. I also prefer the CL's 200 HP engine to the Cougar's 140 HP. (nutkick)

Maybe if you wanted to come to Minnesota my cousin would sell his, since his brother was an idiot and put the back end into a light pole (all damage is behind the back wheel still driveable).
He's not exactly sure what it puts down, but the whole motor is done, forged everythings, I believe it has a T3 and it peaks out his 20psi boost gauge rather quick, rims, I think CF hood, and bodykit (not horrible, but still I wouldn't have it). It's a good looking car, I havent got to race it yet, but from the sounds of it, it's over 400whp so don't think I'll do too well :p

Nooo it's VERY good that it's not a manual. I'm tired of driving stick every day, especially in the city. When I am done with school and can afford a project toy it will be a stick no doubt. Daily drivers will remain autos from here on out.
Is that pleather? Quite impressive I've never seen a Geo with anything but cloth interior.
According to everything I have read that is actual leather that Geo was offering in these cars. From the way it has cracked it looks like leather. I tell you what though, either way when I drive this car I feel like I'm in a big American car due to these seats, they are great.

I agree. If you're driving in a city every day or are frequently on highways with lots of traffic jam, an auto is perfect. Manouvring in a jam with a stick is a pain.
My car as an auto would be much less fun tho. But I don't get stuck in traffic that often (shift working ftw) and I avoid cities anyway. ANd if I have to drive in a big city I just apply my own traffic rules.

Yes they have women only cars (on most trains) during rush hour. Problem is that the women only train is either the first or the last car, so depending on which side of the station you come in on it can be a pain walking all the way to the other side of the train when you are running late. Other times women just cant be bothered and just jump in the train.
I can say since I got to Japan in 2006 that problem seems to have gotten much better. They started the women only trains in 2007 if I recall correctly.

Minimum wage is around 3000 bucks per month as far as I know. Maybe a bit lower maybe higher. Average is 3500-4000 after taxes and stuff.
Annual taxes by the way make up at least one moths salary if not two.

HOLY CRAP, this is just a case where your country pays more. So your $20 an hour and a car cost $20,000 I'd be $10 an hour and a car costs $10,000. Bit of an exaggeration, but you get the point. Minimum wage over here is like $7.25 which ends up being $1100 something a month if you work 40 hours a week, which most people working minimum wage dont. So you guys make about 3 times as much money a month and pay about 3 times a much for a decent car.

Honestly, with the mods that I will have, I will be pushing 300RWP on a dynojet. I basically start with 220HP, the PI heads bump the compression to 10.5.1 and it ups the flow, so that brings it to around 275hp, then the LT headers and exhaust add close to 25RWP, then the UDP adds maybe 5HP. I wouldn't be shocked to see 296HP and if I were to get some stage 1 cams, I would definitely be over 300RWP.
The spoiler isn't huge, but to be honest, looks wise, the 94-98 Mustangs are far better than any other Fox based Mustang, I really like how smooth they are and the spoiler ruins the smoothness.
I agree, but I have been spoilerless for a while now and I like the aggressive look.
Shoulda kept the 4v car. This is a downgrade, the way I see it.
Power wise, yes it was a downgrade, but after the PI swap, it should be a touch quicker than the 4V was. Comfort wise, it's a huge freaking upgrade. Also in resale value it jumps. Essentially right now, I sold my 4V for $2500 and I have $2500 in this one. I went up two years, went down 70K miles, and got quite a few more mods. Also, my 4V was fixing to need new tires and a new windshield.
Wile E

It shouldn't be faster than the 4v at all. Not with just a PI swap, anyway. The extra compression doesn't add that much power at all.
Plus leather = a - for performance driving. Leather doesn't grip nearly as well as cloth.
Should've just stole the suspension and wheels and slapped them on the red car.

I helped a guy with the exact same 4V swap only he had an ORX and some flows to my stock exhaust. He put down 276HP and 288ftlbs of torque to the wheels. The PI engine makes 260/300 to the flywheel and the Mark VIII engine makes 290/290, but add the free flowing exhaust and better headers, call it 305/310.
Most people with just the PI swap put down roughly 250/276. With mods comparable to mine, which is damn near full bolt ons, they usually put down something like 275/290.
Then there is the gear factor, 3.73's on the 98 to the 3.27's on the 4V. I figure that the gears make up for the weight difference between the GTS and this one. I honestly think that they would be damn near even in power levels.
Next comes where it makes the power at. The SOHC makes more of it's power between 2500-5000 RPM and drops like a stone after 5500RPM. The 4V made all of it's power between 3000-6000 RPM. Peak torque doesn't arrive till 4800RPM on the 4V compared to 4,000 on the 2V. All in all, I would give edge to the 2V from a dig and to the 4V from a roll.
As for the leather, I agree, but you never sat in the craptacular seats that were in the red one. Like a broken down mattress covered in a potato sack. At least these are the Cobra style leather seats with the side bolsters, not the flat bottom ones.

Stealing the rear end while stealing the suspension wouldn't have been hard.
And just grab some aftermarket seats.
As far as racing, the 4v would still win from a dig (with the same gearing). You just have to launch it differently.

And need some wide ass tires to do it with. My 255/40/17's spun like hell launching at 3K RPM. Also, I was bored shitless with the 4V and saw no future in it. I could have spent a ton on exhaust, gears, tires, and a blower, but I never would have seen it back out. Besides, my motor isn't assembled yet and I am keeping my eyes peeled for a cheap 5.4L block.... Might as well make a torque monster.

5.4 isn't worth it in a 2V, unless you do heavy porting or go aftermarket.
And you had the gears and tires to use from the silver one. That was half your battle. The 4v had as much power at stock as you are looking to make on a bolt-on 2v. It honestly just doesn't make sense. The same bolt ons on the 4V would have you that much faster again, and you would've had small projects to do installing them here and there.

Again, it's the cost of modding the 4V that got me. LT headers run $200 more for the 4V, cams run $500 more. It's cheaper to mod out the 2V. Hell, I was looking for a 5.0L, even bid on a 94 Cobra, but couldn't win it. Also too, this is not a weekend toy for me, it's a full on daily driver.

But those parts also produce more power on the 4v, thus the higher costs associated with them (not to mention it's 4 cams vs 2).

The Mark VIII uses the B head though. Cams and intake really don't do jack for it. The 3V heads have been done before, but require extensive ECM tuning to get it right. Plus you have to get the cam gears to stop the VVT.

Oh, I was thinking of 1st gen 2v heads. My bad. Anyway, the B heads still outflow the PI heads. The only thing that might be a match are the TFS heads, or heavily ported stockers.
Cams and intake do work on the PI heads, sure, but you are still below the potential of the B heads.
And who cares if someone has done the 3v swap? It just means the tuning is already a known quantity. Cam gears and a reflash aren't exactly a big deal.

I'm against cars with automatic transmission, but for this one I'll let it pass. It has everything, BOSE sound system, digital panel for oil temp, oil pressures etc. Just to start the car is cool - press a button. It even has the "paddles" for shifting gears, just like in an F1 car.
I have been driving it only since Sunday the 5:th, and I just can't get enough of it!!!
And this weekend that's coming, I'm gonna cruise in Stockholm with it (depending on weather).

"FXX"? Is it one of them that were only built 30 of?
Why? I do understand that this maybe isn't a car you see everyday.
Actually, there is a guy who owns a heavily tuned Mitsubishi Evo 9. It has almost 800Hp and a torque of 900Nm. Sure, the car is comfortable as hell, I can manage the DVD/CD player from the wheel, and I can store music in the HDD.. Seriously, it's just a car - it has an engine, 4 wheels and a steering.
It will take you from point A to point B, only difference between this and a Volvo - it will take you there in style.
Can anyone here even imagine how much $/month it costs just to own it? Or the petrol it consumes??
I don't know how it is in the rest of the world, but here you pay tax for letting it run on the road, you need a car insurance - the better the car, the higher the insurance is (sportscars & extremes have the highest pricetag). Just to own, not even drive, and Audi A6 will cost you as little as 400$/month - standing still over here.

Does it cost more than the 1.6 million $ 599XX Ferrari? Those are limited too. Robert Colin (a swedish motor reporter) managed to test one of them. The GT-R has a 3.8 litre engine and dual turbo's. So no, it is not fuel economic. This ain't the first car I have driven with a turbo.
But on the other hand, if you can afford the car - you can afford the fuel.
The only sports car I would ever want to buy.

Problem is this: I filled it on Monday morning, today I went and cut my hair, had breakfast in town. Now when I came back it was on "R"
See? It does consume a lot of petrol. I try to drive it with the meters on "economic", but when coming on to the highway I have to accelerate from whatever speed was before up to 90 Km/H
Turbo's kick in instantly - great feeling, can't argue with anyone there. But aargh! Petrol gone in 60 seconds..
Also, been driving it back and forth from school and work aswell. Not long distances, a speed between 50 - 70 Km/H only and no heavy accelleration.

Hey, new Mustang and Camaro territory.
I want to know why car makers are starting to go bigger yet again. They need to shrink cars back down. I want GT-Rs, Mustangs and Camaros to weight 3400lbs for the fully loaded to the brim models. 3200 or less for the less loaded models.

You shouldn't need to get into the power to merge on the freeway, my cars a hair under GT-R power levels (but also lighter) and I don't have to get on the boost to merge onto the freeway, and I end up knocking out around 30mph on the freeway, city driving always kills though :/ Just gotta watch that go pedal, 2000 - 3000 rpms in that car should be fine for getting just about anywhere.

Yeah, I agree with you completely. I'm not sure why some of these cars are so heavy, or so big, the Camaro is a pretty damned big car, but I have a feeling it isn't that large inside, so whats with the size? Or even, family sedans, the new SHO, what the hell happened to the Taurus being a mid sized family sedan, things as tall as a small truck now and 4,300 freaking lbs...

The price on gas here (98 oct. free from lead -Pb) cost's 13,98/litre in swedish currency. Don't know the exact dollar, but let's just say 1$ and 3cents.
Now.. The tank holds 70 litres (71 according to the manual for the car), that would cost a full tank around 900:- in swedish currency. Because most roads where I live are either 50 or 30 Km/H, only a few is 70, then also we have many traffic lights. So it's like this:
1. Start the car in the morning.
2. Drive to either work or school (depending on day).
3. First traffic light is with car about 2 minutes away from where I live.
4. On the same road, the bus sometimes come, so you have to stop the car early so it can turn onto the road.
5. Coming near school. A traffic light that's "fast", it changes from green to red often, heavily trafficated by people going over the crossing. So there is redlight #2.
6. Going to work. Just in city, now THESE traffic lights are insane, they are divided so bus and taxi have their own lane, whilst we others have to pass about a total of 6 lights (7 sometimes).
7. Just to make things worse, coming in or leaving Stockholm city they have automatic "toll", so that takes cash and sometimes makes a long queue.
8. And to end it off, they are constructing 2 bridges in 2 different locations, making a new tunnel - and just that makes the queue even longer.
During summer, Stockholm city is a mad place to drive a car. I rather walk or take bus or train instead.
Why I need the extra boost, is because I'm not allowed to stop when entering the highway - I need to accelerate. Even when changing a lane to infront another car - eaccelerate even more.
For an example, to overtake an other car when driving 90Km/H, I need to raise my speed above it to make the gap between us and then hold 90Km/H after change of lane.
Problem is that some of the cars go faster than speed limit, making it hard to judge the speed of the traffic "behind" you.

I have 4 cars at the moment, but 2 of them are going away soon.
2001 Cadillac STS, quite possibly my favorite car.
2003 Jeep Wrangler X, I absolutely love this thing.
1986 Jeep CJ7, I spent more hours than I would like to admit wrenching on this thing. Still it's in fantastic shape. For a 1986 Jeep CJ7
1979 Ford F-150 Shortbed 4x4. Man, this truck is awesome. It has a 400M in it, and it peaks around 6 MPG but the power it has it pretty dope. Blew ring and pinion in the rear, broke a knuckle ujoint in the front. I put a new 3rd member from Currie Enterprises in the rear with brand new Superior shafts, and replaced the driver side axle in the front. It's rock solid again.

The Caddy is far too nice. I almost fell asleep a few times driving it to work. I need to replace the front passenger wheel bearing in it, then it'll be back on the road and I can quit driving my '03 Wrangler daily.
I plan on selling the CJ and the F-150 soon, I'm going to take a loss on them both, unfortunately but it should be good to go. I'm going to use the cash for tuition for my first quarter of college.

I find myself hitting 80 with no problems and not realizing it. Those cars just ride that smooth. It's like floating on a cloud, and the world passes by slowly...at 80 mph. The Northstar is no joke, I'm kind of weirded out that it's front wheel drive though.
I picked mine up for a tad too much, but it had 70,000 on it and is in fantastic shape.
A dumbass neighbor of mine backed into it and put a dent in the rear bumper. He played it off like it was going to be cheap to fix. I mean, sure it's not going to break the bank, but it's a Caddy and it has gold flaked green paint. His estimate was $200, max. The bill was more toward $1900. It looks freaking great though, and I now have a neighbor that is much more attentive behind the wheel.

I really do like the Northstar. More so than the 4.6L DOHC that Ford has. I have had both and the N* has a better powerband. If I could strap the N* heads on a 4.6L Teksid block, I think it would be badass.
I know about the paint. Before I had the 98 Seville, I had a 95 Seville that was Firemist red. The hood was messed up, so I figured I would buy a quart or two and repaint it..... Yeah, they wanted something like $400 a quart for that paint... I wound up buying a Chrysler paint for $50 a quart. This was the result, the hood got repainted, but the rest of the car stayed Firemist.

Grinding? Probably a bad syncro, that or you are trying to place it in reverse too quickly after pressing the clutch. Sometimes you have to wait 5 seconds after pressing or it will grind like that. My Mustang did it all the time.
I thought reverse had no sycncro? Anyway the pause thing is a good idea, also check shift linkage.
