Flames, dragons, and skulls are in right now.
I say look into the future and go with something that will stand the test of time. Maybe Rhinestones or Swarovski crystals, ah fuck it Pink with Unicorns! :p
I personally like the swirl finish, but I've never been keen on the brand new guitar look. I like'm dirty, cheap, and beat'n.

#2 - looks similar to John Petrucci's old guitar when he used to be endorsed by Ibanez a long time ago.

Don't be that way man. Kind of a shitty attitude.
And I'm a weird one, as I prefer stains and lacquers on my guitars. I actually like seeing wood grain, at least a little.

fine then...
you take a 30+ gallon bucket big enough to have plenty of room to submerge the object in.
fill it almost all the way to the top with water. cleaner is better.
use 1cup borax per 30 gallons of water. pour it in and let sit for 10mins. be sure to stir it in well.
use 2 or more colors of OIL based paint. a few small drops is plenty. start with the dark colors first and follow with lighter colors.
use a stick or pencil to LIGHTLY "stir" your design. dont overdo it or it will look terrible.
dip in your object SLOWLY moving it left and right as entering the water. this helps make for better design.
once fully emerged, use newspaper to collect the extra paint at the top of the water to allow for an "escape" path for your object.
remove it and hang to dry for 24hours. use a heatgun on low to remove as much water as possible before drying.

Is that a secret or something? We did it all the time in the first grade.
BTW, the blue one is the prettiest. I wouldn't do that at all, but well..

this is not how you did it in 1st grade.
in 1st grade you spin paints together on a 2d paper.
this is 3d

Nope, it was pretty much exactly like that. We didn't "mix" the thing up though (the teachers did that), and it was not nearly as much of it, but we did lot's of rings and whatnot that way.

Very nice! I did this with an old Ibanez a couple years back and got way more money for it than I bought it for. It turned out nice! Go fot it! (toast)

I'm with WilE on this, wood grain with a awsome finish and some lacquered in skull n bones will make the design complete. Mebey burn the skull n bones in with a wire, in the exposed finished wood area. Or do a couple splashes of exposed grain.
Here is mine, I bought it new, played the fuck out of it, you can see the stains on the fret from my fingers. Still have it, still like earnie ball ultralights for the ring they have. Silver to match the machineheads or course. this pic was taken awhile back, and now it no longer gets played for long periods of time. :(

If your guitar is graced with a beautiful flametop like in the wood18 pic I would keep it either natural or tone it down a bit. Flametops are sweet.
