some friends of mine are thinking (and altough i dont want to agree i doo) that metallica is becoming (poop).
but the question is WHY. I mean till the 99 when they released S&M they were an awesome band but then Newsted gone and all became upside down .
So anyone knows or want to share any reason of WHY they became (poop)

Agreed...and what the hell was Load, Unload and fucking Saint Anger? Seriously?
...and I'm going to see them tomorrow
Gojira was supposed to open for them, but they got replaced with Volbeat...VOLBEAT? Arg, I was REALLY looking forward to Gojira so now I'm kind of really pissed and wondering why I'm going.

S&M was awsome.
take it for the growth of the band. jimi hendrix was branching out in this way.

Metallica still kick arse. I've seen them twice, they're my favourite band.
erocker, I hope you're not one of those tossers who thinks that the black album was bad because it was so successful? Knock them because they "went too commercial"? Well a lot of people say that, and say Justice was the best album. Personally I think Puppets was the best, most people seem to like Justice just because of One, which IMO is the most over-hyped/ thrashed song they ever did. Not that it's bad, don't get me wrong, I love it, but some people's obsession with it really gets me. Much like Stairway to Heaven, Led Zep did better shit than that but some people can't see past it. Getting sidetracked here.
Anyway I'm saying the black album is a great album and you're a fool if you think otherwise, or maybe you're just an old man. Metallica certainly went off course with Load/Reload, they admit that themselves. That said, I like Reload (which I think Lars described as re-hashed floor sweepings) a lot. Maybe just because I was 13 when it came out. That age music stays with you I suppose.
DaMulta, I think more to the point they stopped drinking. Alcoholica was freakin awesome (the first time I got drunk I was listening to Enter Sandman) but let's face it they've just got old, got married, kids, all the shit that goes with that so they can't be like they were forever. And the music has changed too. A lot of people say they went soft, I have read some very, very scathing reviews of S&M, but I reckon those people are small minded meatheads. If you can't appreciate classical music you're a fucking philistine as far as I'm concerned.
Anyway, back to the OP, Metallica is "becoming shit?" Come on, they've had 2 albums in the last 6 years, the last one is a year old, they're not going to get much worse so if you're thinking that then they must be shit already. They ain't shit live, I saw them last year and can attest to that, but I think the bad feelings about St Anger and Death Magnetic are justified. I feel they've just run out of decent material. There are a few songs on those albums which I think are first rate (Some Kind Of Monster, All Nightmare Long for instance) but in between is rather weak. And don't get me started on The Unforgiven III, probably the biggest disappointment Metallica has ever given me.
But not as disapponting as Green Day. Their last album was atrocious. There's a band that's gone to shit. And I loved American Idiot.
right enough ranting. later.

They drove themselves to shit. Lars and James are the two worst members of the band, and Kirk is just as insane to sit and deal with everything.
How the hell could anyone work with such jerks? Jason Newstead lasted as long as he could, I dont blame him for leaving.
I still think Metallica is one of the best Metal bands of all times. They started the mainstream heavy metal industry and they deserve credit. They've toured the world with sold out shows more times than current bands go in national tours. Their legend is epic, but extremely hard to follow up.
I hope Metallica is just writing to come out with one last song that will immortalize them. Once last and final song that can truely end on a good note.

Nah, they will ride this horse untill it is a bloody meat pulp.
I haven't bought a album since S&M, listened to some of the newer stuff and found the overproduced sound to be too bleh for my taste. I like a wide range of music, but the incessant sound alikes, screaming some uninteligable foul mouth mockery of dark metal is too much. You used to not fuck with metal, now they are all pussies with emo stylings, or too old. Much like Linkin Park hugely disappointed, rock today is becoming 80's pop rock again, but with more flaming homosexuality.
Fortunately we have bands who are underdeveloped and underutilized to make up for it, the problem is finding them.

The problem with Metallica is "It's impossible for them to get Better"(nutlick) You never grow young and those guys set the bar so higheven they can't reach it anymore, all though Death Magnetic Aint so bad or at least it Adds some flavor to Guitar Hero:rolleyes:

right enough ranting. later.Puppets was the best, closely followed by Justice, but the black album was mainstream rubbish.
Load thru St anger was even worse the the steaming pile of black album shit. They were festering, steaming piles of shit.
Now, Death Magnetic has the music going back to their roots a little, and the music is good. Unfortunately, it's too little too late because Hetfield's voice is just about completely trashed. It's a damn shame too, because Death Magnetic had some potential, unlike the previous few albums.
As far as Greenday, they were mainstream shit from day one, if nothing else, at least they gained a little bit of musical talent since they first started. They play 4 or 5 chords per song now instead of just 2 or 3.
On that note, I'm firing up some Puppets.

+ A bunch to what Wile E said.
Ride The Lightning was also a real ass kicker of an album. Cliff Burton's bass style really shined on the beginning of For Whom The Bell Tolls. Garage Days had some great covers. Pretty much anything before the Black album was golden. Took me awhile to warm up to Justice, what with the absence of Burton, but it sticks to you over time.

Why?
I didn't like St. Anger when it came out, but there are some good songs on it imo. I used to fall asleep listening to Justice when I was a kid, so I really think that's their best album, but Puppets is a VERY close second.
But i also like Load/Reload. I really don't understand why so many people are trashing them. I you don't like that kind of music it's fine, but most people or "fans" trash them for no good reason.

Reload was their second worst album. St Anger was the worst they ever did. Reload was nothing but songs that weren't good enough for Load, and St Anger was just crap all the way around. The music was bad, the mix was bad, and the singing was bad. The black album was the 3rd worst album they did, only because the music was so damned mainstream.
I can actually bear to listen to Load upon occasion. I cannot listen to black, Reload and St Anger at all.
As far as S&M, it's pretty much just a gimmick. Enjoyable, but doesn't really count as an actual album to me. Same with Gararge Inc., good covers, but not really a Metallica album per se.

Ok. Good of you to have an explanation. :)
And I have mixed feelings about mainstream things.. It feels silly to dislike things because they are popular and there's stuff that's pretty much like it, but yet I am allergic to mainstream music nowadays.
BTW, was Black Album mainstream when it was released? I was only 5, so I have no clue. :P

It's mainstream crap not because it released and just happened to become popular, but because it was written with the intent of becoming mainstream right from the start.

Can't really argue there. I still wouldn't consider it crap, but it's very true.
