Well I just thought up a plan on getting a car :D
1. Get at least $1000
2. Find cheap car or truck at dealership
3. Make down payment at local dealership (can do payments through them, no car loan from bank)
4. Get car paid off.
Seems pretty bulletproof, honestly.

Getting in debt = bad. There are decent cars out there, you just have to find em. I have a 95 Pontiac grand am for sale right now. 160K miles, runs great, I just changed the intake gasket on it. I am asking $1600 for it. You can find deals like that out there, for $600 more you could get a car like mine.

Got to agree with JC here, if I recall right you live in PA, so I just hit Craigslist, granted you don't have money now. But if you did, things like this would be a better plan.

http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/cto/1450531138.html - WoW thats a steal, fast and cheap, something like this with a minor issue that you can fix is always nice since it usually cuts a lot off the cost.

http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/cto/1450380909.html - Another low price because needs a little work
http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/cto/1450340365.html - Even has bling bling 20" :/
So I got to say scrap the debt plan, all of those cars are right around $1000, I didn't even crack $1500 and it only took me 5min to find them.

Yup. Piss on a monthly payment. You will already have to pay your insurance, registration, gas and maintenance. A payment on top of that is a real drag.
A car or truck is about the worst thing to go into debt on. By the time you have it paid off it isn't worth squat, and you have already driven the crap out of it.
Save your ducketts for cruising fuel, a new stereo, basic improvements, and the ability to have some spending cash when you get to where you are going. My first rig was a 1969 Chevy truck. Paid $400 cash, rubbed it down with Dupont 7, put in a stereo (and in my day a CB radio:)) and hit the highway.
