This is a thread to put songs that are good but are not sang by they original compositor.

Example: Born to be Wild = Steppenwolf

My example: Born to be wild = Hinder (in fact is quite good) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrAdflj54K0)

All Along The Watchtower, written and performed by Bob Dylan. This song was remade by Jimmi Hendrix, who viewed Bob as one of his idols. One of the few remakes that I think is better than the original. There are very few remakes that I actually like.

Another is Love Reign O'Er Me written and performed by the Who, which kicks real ass, but is also good in the Pearl Jam remake.

Love reign O'er Me by Pearl Jam blew my mind on how good it was. It was very close to the grwatness of the original, imho.

I like Nonpoint's cover of In the Air Tonight originally done by Phil Collins.

Also on the topic of Jimi Hendrix, I like the Little Wing cover that Stevie Ray Vaughn did of it.

Hurts so good by Jack wild and the small town rockers. He did it better than John Mellencamp did.

Metallica - Loverman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvpwTT6ijTw). Made my Nick Cave, and the cover is AWESOME.

This is another great cover of a Who song. It's funny that although I'm not a fan of covers (not counting bluegrass,) two that I really like are Who songs. Anyway, this really does kick some ass.

I want to stress the difference between a cover and a tribute. A tribute is a thoughtful rendition with the original artist's vision in mind. A cover is just playing a song someone else wrote; please note all the "pop artists" are really "cover artists". A prime example is Jordan Sparks who recently redid Battlefield, which was a crappy song to start with.

If I could show my respect for true artists I would attempt While My Guitar Sadly Sleeps by Lennon. Too many others to mention.

Favorite all time rendition is Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower. I did like Orgy's redo of Blu Monday when it first came out. Metallica covered Motorhead's Overkill well, but that song is just balls to the wall anyways.

My second post is definatley a tribute. Not a real Foo Fighters fan, but they go all out on that one.

Nice, Mlee49, that you agree on Hendrix doing Dylan, probably one of the all time best covers. Also, While My Guitar Gently Weeps is by the other Beatle, George. Enthralled at the time by the principles of the book I Ching, he wrote the song based on a random novel's first words. Also, the song featured Eric Clapton, one of only two outsiders to play with the Beatles. The other was Billy Preston, who played keyboards on the Let It Be album.
