What is better for metal? I'm going to start getting into guitar more, and I want the best metal tones possible. I play in Drop C and occasionally Drop A#

If you dont know the difference between overdrive & distortion then maybe you shouldnt be playing a guitar.....seriously....
but for metal tones - there are various ways to get it - there are distortion pedals then there is the amps natural distortion.
some solidstate amps sound quite nice - but Id always push for an all-valve sound. theres a much bigger sound & warmer crisp tones to be had out of valve amps then solid state ones.

I know the difference, but I wanted to get an opinion on what sounds better. Overdrive is a warmer tone and distortion is rough.
I don't play on any good amps to get a real good feel and usage of both, which is why I created this thread.

Overdrive almost always sounds better to me than distortion, regardless of the music. There are exceptions, but for the most part, it's overdrive all the way for me.

well I got a valve amp so vintage crunch ftw - Id suggest just playing around & seeing which one you like the most - it also dont hurt to have 2 different pedals as 1 can be your 'crunch' & the other can be your 'lead' tone.
additionally I run a Korg AX3000g which satisfys my needs to the metal tones front but even then I only use it occasionally. as my amps own distortion sounds beautiful (at least i think so anyway)
