My little daughter was kept at hospital today - very severe asthma, she's on continuous oxygen.
Just came here to get her pygamas, and got on the net to pay paypal for her xmas present.... I'm going to spend the night with her.

I have faith she'll be OK. I'll send a few prayers to hedge the bets tho.

The wife and I will include her in our prayers, as well as you and your husband, and for the doctors and nurses to have wisdom and skill.(r)

Damn. I hope she's going to be ok. My youngest daughter has asthma, though it is not as severe as it was when she was a baby. I know an attack can be very scary.

ya that will do it. specially since your around water so depending on how cold it gets and how fast the temp and the fact that the humidty probably drops really low when its cold really fast probably shocked her system....im super happy little kindle is ok though. I mean not being able to breath is the scariest thing that has ever happened to me. Because you feel fine then al of a sudden you cant breath then your chest starts to hurt really really fuckin bad. and most asthma can also be triggered by stress so if you start freaking out it gets worse. because you try to suck in and out as hard as possible and it constricts your bronchial tubes more. being she is just a little panther poor girl was probably tweaking out. and im really happy she made it though. I mean its still scary when i get them but the older you are the more you can fight it until i can get to my meds or a hospital make sure you gve her a big hug poor girl. she was probably super scared and she wants BP

Yep. Me too. Been hospitalized dozens of times growing up. Even had my heart stop on 2 occasions on the way to the Hospital in the 5-7 year old range. Sudden cold and severe allergies were my 2 biggest triggers.

Finally we're at home. Her breathing's much better, and she's only got a slight fever now.
Doc said to keep her indoors till next Wednesday.
I'm so thankful she's better now.

While I was at the hospital I took a photo of the pc/tv/phone. Interesting gadget I might say - I'd connect a usb keyboard to it though.

It hangs from the wall with a long arm, and you can adjust it so you can even lie flat in bed and watch a movie or browse the net.

glad to see your little one is doing better. Hopefully she's home by now, hospitals are great for the care they give, but I still say that a good rest in your own bed can do wonders. And that's exactly what she'll need after being hospitalized.

They told us to go home last Friday, 7 days ago. I pointed out to the Doc in charge of the ward that she had a 101 fever and he insisted we could take care of her at home.
It's pretty weird, the first time I heard of patients discharged from our hospital while still running a fever.
So Tuesday was a public holiday so I skipped Monday and sent her to school Wednesday. Her cough just got worse.
Yesterday didn't send her to school, neither today and I got another (private) doctor today who started jumping with indignation at her being sent home with a 101 fever. He diagnosed a lower respiratory tract infection, doesn't exclude she might have got H1N1 from hospital, but since her fever's down it's too late to check now... gave her TWO antibiotic medicines, cough medicine, plus Ventolin and Aircort, and insisted that I call him even if it's the early hours of the morning. He also instructed me not to take her out of the house before next Wednesday.
So yeah, I'm kinda panicked once more.... duh.......

That was my first reaction when I saw this thread created: H1N1. A cousin of mine (under 10 years old I think) got life-flighted (helicopter) to the Children's Hospital over 150 miles away. He had a fever, rash (over his entire body), and trouble breathing. His oxygen saturation was down to 80% (damn near critical) which is why they sent him off to a bigger facility.

If she does have H1N1, she can't go to school until it's beat back. The worst is over--the bug is in recession.

Her oxygen had been 78% when I took her to the general hospital. Guess that wasn't quite nice since 80% is near critical?

Thing is they say H1N1 induces high fever.
She didn't have fever when she entered hospital. Perhaps only a little 99 degree fever.
She entered 2nd Dec Tuesday and fever developed on Thursday afternoon, going up to 101 by Friday (when she was discharged), kept 100/101 through Saturday and went completely down by Sunday.

I think my cousin hit 104F...

Symtoms of H1N1 according to CDC (http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/sick.htm):
fever *
cough
sore throat
runny or stuffy nose
body aches
headache
chills
fatigue
sometimes diarrhea and vomiting
* It’s important to note that not everyone with flu will have a fever.

It could have been H1N1 and it might not have been. I think your best indicition if it was is if the school she attends has about 20% of the students ill in the past week. There was a period in the states where schools were seeing attendance down by 30%+ causing some to close for a while.

yeah I'd definetly ask for tamiflu just in case, my wife had the flu a few weeks ago and they gave her tamiflu just in case. It's one of those nice things where the treatment is the same regardless.
