View Full Version : Graduating in 1.5 years (maybe earlier), where to move?

I'm kicking things into gear, getting 18 credit hours per semester instead of 15, and instead of 2 terms, I may begin winter and summer terms as well. With this I could graduate in just over a year.

The GF wants to follow me somewhere, and doesn't like the cold, and though I don't, I really like the snow... however snow makes driving a pain in the ass, and makes everything all slippery, so I'm willing to settle for someplace warm, but want to love somewhere warm all the time.

So... In short, GN, where should I look for jobs/look at masters programs? Corpus Christi, Texas? Or Phoenix metro, AZ?

Go to London!

She lives 5 minutes from Windsor, ON... Canada is way better than the majority of the states, but I'd rather stay in Detroit... Your speed limits are too low!

Screw London. I've been to the UK, it's a horribly drab and depressing city.

Epic, how often is English spoken in everyday situations? I don't speak any Maltese, but she speaks Polish and Russian (absolutely useless to find a non-warzone warm-climate home) and I speak Spanish and German to a good degree. I am, however, positive that these will be completely useless in Malta :P

Well, our second language is English. It's an official language too (meaning our laws are written down both in Maltese and English).
Basically everyone here speaks English, and also many people speak or understand Italian.

There are people who know Russian, Spanish or German (no Polish) since our kids have a choice to learn them at school. But they can choose other subjects or other languages. So it's not like you can go to a store or restaurant start speaking Russian or German and everyone'd understand you lol.

Is Malta an EU country? I am an EU citizen, so I COULD actually immigrate there. How much are travel costs to mainland Europe? How much are living costs? I'm still leaning towards TX because of the lenient laws, commonness of Mexican and Tex-mex food (my favorite by far), high speed limits, and cheap costs of living.

Yes it's a EU country.
About the living costs, if you check here (http://www.indigoguide.com/malta/living-in-malta.htm) it'd give you a good overview.
Be sure to check the menu on the left of the page too.

Yup you're right! (slap)
Malta's so small that if you go over 80km/h you'd be immediately at destination and unable to fathom out why you drove the car in the first place! (ww)

Yup, I'll definitely be suggesting the Netherlands. It's in the EU, it's a clean fresh country with tulips blossoming all over the place, you can smoke pot in the coffee-shop next door, you can wear wooden clogs, enjoy awesome nightlife of folk-songs played on banjos, and you'd even be able to watch the world go by while relieving yourself.. (http://www.tripandom.com/europe/a-bit-too-public-public-toilet/) ;)
I don't think the last one'd work for the ladies though...

We have those in Utrecht as well, considering I usually water the trees I really don't mind them. Last time I pissed in one it did smell really bad though.

The only place I've been to in the US was Trenton, MI. It was suburbia hell. I vote Corpus Christi just for the name.

Stay out of the Netherlands though. Imagine Danthebajnoman times 16 million. Wierd bunch.

Yeah, Texas is sweet. Mostly always warm, rarely gets cold. Snowy locations are close enough. Only things you will have to get used to is the heat.

I know from living here that Wisconsin is full of jobs right now. Like Michigan, winter can suck, but often there is no place I'd rather be than in Milwaukee during the Summer. The one thing I really like about Milwaukee is the vast amounts of public land along Lake Michigan. I do like Detroit very much as well, though I haven't had enough summer experience there.
