I was unsure whether to post this here, in the Music forum or in the Ugly Girl thread but since there's not only the picture but also the music element and most certainly the news 'scoop'..... brace yourselves for here goes...

Susan Boyle is number one on both sides of the Atlantic after topping the US album charts with her debut collection.

Boyle easily made it to number one in the Billboard 200 with I Dreamed A Dream after shifting a massive 701,000 copies in America.

It is the biggest opening week for a female artist in US chart history.

The only other act to sell more is Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle which sold 803,000 in 1993, according to SoundScan which began tracking sales in 1991.

Boyle beat American Idol contestant Adam Lambert, Rihanna and Lady Gaga to the top spot.

Rihanna's second album Rated R, which came in at number 4, only sold 181,000 copies.

Boyle is the first British female solo artist to have a number one hit in the States since Leona Lewis' Bleeding Love.

The singer became famous around the world after her first audition on Britain's Got Talent became an YouTube phenomenon.

It has been viewed more than 300 million times on the internet.

Well... kidding apart, it goes to show how mature the people of the UK and USA are when it comes to evaluating music. She does have a heavenly voice and is obviously very gifted.

What's against her is that her talent got discovered now that she's nearly 50, she hadn't been trained for the celeb-world since her teen years, like most celebrities her age have been.
If you take a good look she isn't that bad.
She's got good features, her teeth are nice.
I'm sure a good hairstyle/dye/makeup/clothes would do wonders eventually.

EDIT: it worked :)

Germany and its Idol show should learn from the UK or USA. Those shows bring up real talents, Germany only seems to judge by looks, and not quality, thats why those made stars disappear soon. NONE of them was popular more than a few months. And they all suck.

By the way this is Switzerland's "Star". She's a girl from the countryside. And she actually can sing.

I never understood the preoccupation with looks in reference to music. You listen to music, not look at it.

Unless you're on youtube

Unless you're on youtube

So, you have to look at the artist to hear the music? If you close your eyes while watching them on Youtube, does the music stop or change?

No, it doesn't. You never have to see the artist ever, if you don't like the way they look. Their looks will never, EVER change the quality of the music.

You're definitely right.
One cannot ignore however how the general public is constantly criticising celebrities, independently of their performance.
Even long ago, when Elvis "got fat"... his shape was an issue, even though his music was as good as ever. Same went for the great actor Marlon Brando, critics were always punting about his weight ups and downs.

Amy Winehouse - she's a great singer who always gets photos uploaded of her looking far from her best...

Lady Gaga? We all knew what types of videos were up on youtube a month ago or so...... and it had nothing to do with her music.

And so on and so forth...

I know. I'm just saying I don't understand why people feel that the artist's looks are important. You don't need to see them to hear the music, so why are we so obsessed with their looks?

I just don't get it.

Not all women singers have to be hot like Rihanna and Lady Gaga to sell albums. Just goes to show if you can sing you will still sell albums if you can sing and your hot, well then your just selling yourself :)
