Murphy 'died of natural causes'

Brittany Murphy has died in Los Angeles of what appeared to be natural causes, a coroner's official has said.

http://estb.msn.com/i/1B/D031F1DAB1669C9737B89730137736.jpg The 32-year-old actress, who got her start in the hit Clueless and rose to stardom in 8 Mile, was pronounced dead at 10.04am at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre, hospital spokeswoman Sally Stewart said.

Brittany was transported to the hospital after the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call at 8am at the home she shared with her husband, British screenwriter Simon Monjack, in the Hollywood Hills.

Assistant chief coroner Ed Winter said the star apparently collapsed in the bathroom, and authorities were looking into her medical history.

An official cause of death may not be determined for some time, since toxicology tests will be required, but "it appears to be natural", Mr Winter said.

He said an autopsy was planned for Monday or Tuesday.

Mr Winter said Brittany's family was co-operating with the coroner's investigation but would not be releasing a public statement. He said funeral arrangements have not been announced.

Los Angeles police have opened an investigation into the death.

Detectives and coroner's officials were at the couple's home on Sunday afternoon but did not talk to reporters. Paparazzi were camped outside the property, located above the Sunset Strip.

Neighbour Clare Staples said she saw firefighters working to resuscitate the actress. She said Brittany was on a stretcher and "looked as though she was dead at the scene".

Family: Brittany ill before death

Brittany Murphy's family said the actress was ill with flu-like symptoms in the days before her death and prescription medications were taken from her home, the Los Angeles coroner's office said.

The 32-year-old 8 Mile actress died on Sunday morning after collapsing at her Hollywood Hills home.

Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said her death appeared to be from natural causes and that the reported illness could have contributed to her death, but that it would be weeks before a final determination is made.

He said they would conduct an autopsy to try to determine what killed the actress.

Toxicology tests will be performed, and officials will contact the star's personal physician to get a better sense of the actress's medical history, Winter said.

Brittany's husband, Simon Monjack, and family wrote in a statement: "The sudden loss of our beloved Brittany is a terrible tragedy.

"She was our daughter, our wife, our love, and a shinning star. We ask you to respect our privacy at this difficult time

"Another one bites the dust." Queen strikes again, that's what's happening.

She was only 32 years old and died of cardiac arrest. First I heard about an investigation--good I say. Heart failure at 32 is very rare.

King of the Hill :(

Heart failure at 32 is very rare.

Especially for women.
That's one of the very few advantages of the estrogen hormone.
In fact, women cease to have the advantage of having less heart failures than their male counterparts after the menopause.

last episode was this may. so no just re-runs.

such a pity this was another one like Heath Ledger, in the midst of their rpime and then suddenly gone. At least with Farrah and Patrick we had some warning. It seems like it could be an OD though, drug deaths are always the most shocking and unexpected.

Well.. Another one was snorting too much dust. Her heart in her skinny frail body couldn't handle it.

She doesn't appear to be anorexic. If memory serves, anorexia has strong ties to cardiac arrest. Then again, it is hard to say if the pictures we see are new or not. Anywho, autopsy will say.

When anoretics die from heart failure it's usually due to inadequately supervised 'feeding', which is extremely rare in todays' hospitals.
Also, such an anoretic would immediately be seen emaciated.

On the other hand, more danger lies with bulimics.
They maintain a normal or higher-than-average body weight and they eat normally (hence are more difficult to diagnose).
But they purge (vomit?) after every meal or so, messing up their electrolytes in turn. And messed up electrolytes mess up the heart.

It's what happened to... Terri Schiavo effectively.

And to top it all here there's another issue at play, the mainly the "flu-like symptoms".

Leaving drugs and even swine-flu out of the question, I know a woman on a personal basis who started out with a common cold like 5 years ago and which such cold virus somewhat attacked the endometrium of her heart leaving her in a semi-disabled state.

Bulimia could certainly be at play here.

The coroner's report is done but it will take 8 weeks for toxicology.

Chronic bulimia can lead to congestive heart failure.
