So back when I was about 17 I had a pretty bad cavity in one of my molars, I was eating some no-brand Cheetos and one of them broke a huge chunk of that weakened tooth off. Now I'm 23 and it's too irritating to handle any more.
It's not that it hurts, because I don't have any pain from it, it's just that I've had enough with trying to keep it clean and picking food out of the crack constantly.
I'd like to have it capped, crowned, or whatever it is they do to teeth in this scenario, but I'm not sure if I can afford it. I haven't been to the dentist since I was about 15 (Yeah, I know...)
Does anybody have any idea what type of cost I would be facing to have it fixed, or any alternate options outside of simply having it pulled?

I had a similar tooth extracted rather than pony up the big bucks. 8 years later no problems. It cost a hundred or so...nothing to have a stroke over. Just get r done.

X-rays, consultation, drilling, filling, and billing.
Use the white fill, as they can drill it and completely fill it and the white filling strengthens the tooth. I had the same issue with a piece of jolly rancher that was stuck between two teeth and gum on it. It took out large portion of the center of the tooth. Fortunately I was able to stop the decay and then get it filled instead of removed.
With a couple other small cavaties and some cleaning and polishing it cost me 300 with insurance, total bill was about 1700.
I would suggest to ask those who aren't in favor of affordable health care to pitch in for a friend. Not a jab at you at all, just a musing on the effects on members the current medical coverage of the US is.

Go sell your blood/sperm.
You can get a consultation and get a quote, some places offer payment plans as well.

I tried to sell sperm once, but no one could understand a word of what I was trying to say......... ;)

When I was pregnant I needed a filling but the dentist didn't want to give me anesthesia. So he drilled and went through without anesthetic.. hmmm think about anything which is worse than scratching fingernails or chalk on glass or board, I'll always be remembering that type of feeling forever....
Anyway, he told me the filling would last perhaps 3 years, and it lasted 7. Till now I'm okay using dental floss after every meal to make sure everything's clean.
What I intend to say is that if after you take care your mouth tastes clean to you and to others then no damage is being done.

Seriously though if it's a molar it won't be showing in your mouth and if it's cheaper I'd get it pulled out.

I would, but the reason I don't want it pulled is because it's teh side I chew on.

Root canal with a filling for me was $600 (no insurance), unfortunately years later that filling came out and I lost the tooth anyway :/
If you just want to tolerate the pain until you lose the tooth, Orajel works.

Just get it pulled. It's gonna just eventually fall out if you get a root canal anyway. If you do nothing, it will just continue to crumble. Either way, you eventually lose the tooth. Trust me on this, I speak from experience. Leaving it is a health risk, so pulling is the cheapest option that makes sense.
You'll learn to chew on the other side, and it will become second nature.

If you live in a big city, you could go to one of those free dental work events at a local stadium.

I suggest you get it removed...or filled
I currently have 2 broken Filled teeth and I'm using DenTemp a temporary filling with Benzocaine sold at CVS for $5 but does not work so great for eating but makes the day tolerable...
I will be getting my teeth Re Filled with my Tax Overpayment settlement ASAP.
If you don't want to get your tooth filled Find an OLD Dentist they are good about No Xray or First visit Charges... They will normally do a simple Extraction for $75-$100 and write you a prescription for Antibiotics and 3 days of Vicodin....
and then your done and then
