It's so nice to see a Buell fan outside of Milwaukee! (toast) I bought my brothers DynaGlide from him a month ago. I'll be getting it out of storage once the deep freeze is over.:D I'm shopping for new bars for it now.

It's 40F today...wow. Feels like time to ride despite the snow everywhere. Unfortunately I am baking cupcakes and cannot get away :o
I was just in Milwaukee for Xmas and it was a grim reminder of all the years I spent growing up in Illinois: COLD. Illinois sucks. Wisconsin, not so much :p
Everytime I travel to WI some idiot in IL tries to murder me with his vehicle.

Just at idle, its loud enough to hear almost a block away at idle, not sure when moving since I'm not outside.
How long have you had the ninja? Looks clean. Do you ever plan on getting a bigger one?

Thanks, I've had it since the middle of October. I definitely plan on getting a bigger one, the deal I found on this was just too good to pass up. I wanna get a 650R next, then go to a 4 cylinder bike.

The Race ECM makes the HMF exhaust sound a lot better.
Check it out.

That ECM looks like it really improved throttle response.

I've put about 500 miles (maybe more) on the new EC and it transformed the bike. Much more finesse and more usable RPM band. I can growl up a hill at 3000 RPM where before the engine felt like it was going to surge and rattle to bits at low RPM.

What's the redline on those bikes anyway? I know it's a different type of motor from normal sports bikes...just curious.

With the Race ECM it's bumped up from 10.8 to 11K.

Who are you kidding? There's not even a muffler on there. It's just a solid pipe with a can bolted to the outside for looks. lol.

Pretty much. EBR sells that for "Race Use Only" and it's the same system they ran on the AMA racers.

About 7 seconds to 50MPH, not bad at all. Yes it did chirp on gear change :D (and yes it is auto)

I hate loud vehicles, doesn't matter what. When you can hear a riced out little four banger and you can't hear an 80,000 lb 18-wheeler doing 60+ MPH, something is wrong there. It bugs the shit out of me.

LOL. My old mechanic used to say 'man, screw the exhaust, if you have real power, you don't need a loud exhaust, you want it fast and quiet'. I like his philosophy. I like it to sound DEEP more than anything else. Fart cans (ricer mufflers) are awful.

I don't like fart cans on bone stock Civics either, but ALL truly fast cars are pretty loud. Quiet exhausts are ALL restrictive, and by keeping your high horsepower vehicle quiet, you are sacrificing horsepower, and generating more heat in the engine.

If you are doing 200 MPH, yeah, loud makes sense. 60 MPH, not so much.

It's not the speed that matters with loudness, it's engine load. I can fully load an engine at 60Mph. Stomp on it at 45, and when you hit 60 it will be loud until you let off.
Even most truly powerful cars are a least OK at cruising or idle.

Exactly my point. Most "loud" vehicles were made that way by their owners either through lack of maintence or intentional modifications.

Let me clear things up for you;)
You know the following is true...search your souls.
Loud exhaust on ANY street vehicle 2-3 or 4 wheels=(99.5% of the time) Not enough attention as a child. So I'll MAKE YOU LOOK AT ME NOW!!! WOOOOOT Same with Subs...:D

My post made it sound as if my Dad was dead from a Bike accident..
He is very much alive but will have a funny limp for the rest of his life..
He is still in Rehab for his leg which now has pins and plates in it..
Funny thing is He had his bike fixed before they fixed his Leg..
and the 70 year old man who hit him had taken out his hearing aid(s) because (here comes the irony) Loud pipes and Subs make his aids ring...
Regardless he should have been wearing his glasses Since my Dad was stopping at a red light leaving the Walmart Plaza road in front of the gamestop entrance where the old guy obviously did not see him or hear him (to the absolute amazement of 19 witnesses)
and plowed right through hitting my dads bike just behind the front tire flipping the bike and sending my Dad 20 something odd feet away and snapping his leg to the point where splintered bone was very exposed.
My Dad thought he hit his front brake sending him flying off of his bike He had no idea he had gotten hit.
He says some lady came over and held his head and neck and he asked her if she could turn off his bikes radio so it wouldn't drain the battery and that's when the pain started So he kindly* asked her if she could let go off his head and straighten out his leg..LOL
He didn't find out until he was being released that he had gotten hit and not wrecked..
and His reaction was..
Thank God I got hit by a Car I don't think I could have ever lived up to the embarrassment of wrecking like that...
he says since the load pipes didn't work he is gonna add a little orange flag to his bike this year..

But you said you hate loud cars, you should say you hate ricers then. My car has no shit cans on the back of it and it's audible at mosts speeds inside the car, not extremely loud, but you hear it. It's a very nice exhaust system and getting flow meant adding noise, and to be honest, I like it, now if I had to use shit cans to make my car loud, then I would agree.

If it sounds like a well tuned engine that simply needs better flow that's one thing
If it sounds like a gurgling choked engine with glass packs that's obscene (specially when a 3 cylinder sounds like ford 460 monster truck)
But then again it's just a matter of opinion...

I prefer "Sonic Signature" as one of the custom touches to any vehicle I own. First thing I change (after the handlebars) on any motorcycle is usually the exhaust system. Facts are you can nearly always increase the performance with a tuned free flowing exhaust. In many cases it's like night and day.
A tuned exhaust is a far different animal than a loud muffler on an otherwise stock exhaust. Just slapping on a Flow Master so you can pretend you are Dale Earnhardt is about as stupid as pop rivetting a coffee can on the tailpipe of your Honda.
It's not about going 200 MPH either. It's about tinkering and improving what you've got. A proper header and low restriction muffler will improve accelleration and in some cases fuel economy. Results may vary. Dealer restrictions apply.
Here's a short vid of me riding my Buell X1 1201cc Aircooled Twin with Race ECM and Race header with basically an open can that looks like a muffler...but isn't.
I think it sounds awesome. If it pisses off people like Ford that's even better :D

What cyberdruid said. A motor is just a large air pump, its about getting that air in the best way possible and letting it out the best way possible. And if that means being loud, thats just a bonus to me.

I'm pretty sure if the GT90 was actually a well made prototype it would have been quite loud.

Only when going 150+ MPH. Street legal super cars are no louder than your average Mustang at 60 MPH, if not quieter because the engine is barely more than idling.

Anything with that kind of power drones at speed, my car isn't no super car, but honestly at 70mph I am only doing about 1700rpms (don't need a super car to be a bit over idling at those speeds), and cruising around at 30mph I am only at about 1200rpms, the car is insanely loud at that levels as it's just lugging around it's weight.
And speed doesnt mean noise, yes it would be loud at 150+, but getting to 150+ is where people would notice it, especially with a turbo.

Loudness on accelerating to, and maintaining, a speed of 200+ MPH is about equal. The drivetrain is strained the entire time but, it is louder at 200 MPH than 0-60 MPH for two reasons:
1) Road noise (the tires compressing the air and releasing it) -- think of clapping your hands: the faster the motion, the louder the noise.
2) Wind resistance (the fast you go, the greater the drag coefficient, and more drag usually means more noise) -- unless it is perfectly aerodynamic.
Virtually all cars capable of 200+ have superchargers or turbos. Bigger engine blocks means more weight, more weight means less speed. Supers/turbos add more power without much weight.

What I meant by speed doesnt mean noise is. When you someone sees a car going 150+ mph the first thought in their head isn't "wow thats a loud car", and I doubt thats the first of their worries either. Yes it is loud at those speeds, but that really isn't what people are going to notice or care about.

Depends if they can see it or not. For example, I occassionally hear bikes go speeding by my house. I can't see them but just by the sound, I can tell they are speeding and/or illegally racing. Even if I did see them, I'd be just as annoyed by it.
Maybe a car wouldn't garner such attention because few cars can go that fast. They command respect in that sense but, I'm sure there's people that would be annoyed by sight and/or by hearing it.

No doubt about it: Loud pipes draw LEO. It doesn't take a huge leap to put that together. And speeding and being loud do not have to go hand in hand. But it's more fun that way :D
