Anyone here into Parkour at all?

I've been training since November 2004 now ( on and off, due to injuries)

If you not into Parkour feel free to ask about it in this thread instead.

I'll be only happy to answer.

Well, you make a thread about something I've never heard about and you don't even say anything about WTH it is? Come on, show us the pamphlet n shit!

Heh.

Parkour is based around obstacle course racing originally, the methods and movements used to over come the courses efficiently have been adapted for a more general use.

I can get to places others can't and I can do it quicker.

Its efficient movement over an difficult terrain I guess.

This video is over 3 years old so skill wise it isn't the best, but due to the editing it will give you the best impression of what Parkour is about.

In my village, we run behind (catch) chickens barefooted. There are plenty of obstacles, and it's pretty fun.

When I was a kid we used to run on dammed river beds filled with huge smooth rocks. It was loads of fun. I've been thinking about doing that sort of thing actually..

Oh I do it. Not regularly, but I hardly walk down stairs. And climbing stuff is fun!

Ah, pretending you are in Mirrors edge. I used to do it, but not so much anymore. Probably pretty freaking weak at this point.

Surprisingly how many of you like to do similar things :D

I actually started just before the big influx of people doing Parkour, not that it matters but its still cool to have a few months on the majority of the people here in the UK heh.

There's an interesting moto that got carried accross from Georges Hébert's methode naturelle " be strong to be useful"

I like to take that more literally then most though and actively make an effort to assist people where I can.

Its one of those sports where you can do it just for the enjoyment or take it a bit further into nearly a method of living, I think its really unique in that respect : ]

I saw a worldcup in Parcours once. Those pro guys are insane man. It takes a whole lot of body control, strengh and sense of balance to jump over one ledge and land in a handstand on the other.

The English guys who've been to both those contests are chums of mine haha

I don't agree with competition in this sort of sport personally but not much I can do about it.

Companies always get a hold of things!

Its like the Rallye X-games. I don't like them.

BUT its still cool to see what can be done in Parcours. However finding a proper rating system is next to impossible. Thats why I don't agree with "best Parcourer (?) of the world" I mean come on.

Aye its pretty silly.

We used to have friendly racing contests in order to test our skills but I think to make it competitive when originally it was made to be if anything a lifestyle choice.

( Get strong, be fast, be efficient so if necessary you can help people if you can or run from something that would be foolish to confront )

I find it really effects how you think, you start to see non physical barriers in the same way you would physical barriers, just something in the way you need to over come.

I think Parkour helped my curb some of my dyslexic tendencies actually.

Due to the mind set I developed over the years.

*edit* Went training today! An old training friend came from his town and brought the people he trains with :D

Feeling it now though, every muscle hurts!

Got a few things on film too so I'll share them when i get them : ]
