For one month I only ate vegetables I stayed hungry,, I dont know how they do it.

The stench of patchouli destroys their pangs of hunger. Also, in times of trouble, they sacrifice a Birkenstock strap for quick sustenance. Even though the strap is dervied from animals, the brand of Birkenstock cleanses away any meatish guilt. It's like kosher for veggies.

I've been vegetarian for decades, but I am lacto vegetarian - such as the diet in India. You have to get into rice, grains, nuts and seeds to get protein. I use soy milk, cheese, and cottage cheese. I got started when I was into yoga years ago, then it made sense in terms of the earth's resources. It takes more land to sustain a non vegetarian diet with meat. That takes into consideration all the grains cattle, chicken, hogs, etc... have to be fed.

A friend of mine said his preference for eating was vegetarian. Which meant he ate cattle, chickens, hogs, etc... as they were vegetarian.

Did you consult someone who knows "how" to be a vegitarian? (ie someone who has spent years as a vegitarian, OR a nutritionist?) It takes alot of care to be healthy as a vegitarian because you have to make sure you get everything you need. And even if you do get all the nutrition you need, it will take a long time for your body to stop craving meats. In the same way, someone who has been a vegitarian for years will take a very long time to adapt to eating meat again.

You've got to take it slowly, not give up all at once. I've been veg for a month too. I'd say if you eat non veg everyday, try starting off by eating it veg once a week.
Also start with the better tasting ones like cottage cheese, potatoes etc

If every person on the Earth held a vegetarian diet, we would already be out of arable land.

Also, they eat meat in India.

India is not 100% Hindu - Buddhist. However, they are the majority and "ahimsa" or non harm is a fundamental concept. The last studies I saw are probably outdated, as they calculated the amount of land necessary to raise beef, hogs, chickens, etc... plus grain consumption, hay, etc... consumption. Now they raise chickens and hogs in warehouses that have them tightly penned up and force fed.

With the exception of my second daughter (who is now a pescetarian), the vegetarians I've known were all overweight due to eating lots of junkfood.

These days, I could stand to lose a few pounds and wouldn't mind giving up meat (although I'd also go pescetarian), but it would probably be the straw that broke my husband's back. I already make vegetarian meals at least once weekly utilizing the power of grains like quinoa, but my husband's not as fond of fish as I am and really appreciates pork and chicken.

After I finish reading Molly Ivins, I'm slotted to read Omnivore's Dilemma. I'm already fearful of the consequences of that read.

I am kind of that way too. I like veggies if they are cooked the right way. There is a hibachi/sushi place that cooks the best damn veggies that I have ever eaten.

I like veggies if they are soaked in butter and salt, but then again, those really arent vegetables anymore.
