Prepare for laughs :)
The Chinese are great innovators - in finding ways to rip off innovation. Here are some examples.
Daewoo Matiz (original design), copied to Chery QQ (that's Chery, not Chevy)

Vauxhall Frontera (original design) vs Landwind:

Honda CRV (original design) vs Laibao SRV:

Mercedes C vs Geely Merrie 300:

Neoplan Starliner vs Zonda A9:

Rolls-Royce Phantom vs Hongqi HQD:

Smart vs er... Chinese Smart:

Toyota Prado vs Dadi Shuttle:

Fiat Panda vs Great Wall:

Nissan XTrail vs Greatwall Sing

BMW 7 vs BYD F6 (not that much of a ripoff)

They couldn't even innovate on the company logos:

The Hongqi HQD looks pretty darn awesome. It looks like an actual person used some creativity with the front. I'd hate to think what's actually powering the car though.
..and I would totally drive a Geely Merrie 300. Lawl.

I hope those companies can sue the Chinese government/companies that build them for using trademarked designs. Generally speaking, that pisses me off. At least no American brands on there.

Actually, I think they're wrong in comparing the Greatwall Sing to the Nissan. The Sing looks a hell lot more like the new Escape/Explorer than the Nissan.

I agree. The front of the Hongqi looks much better than that of the original Phantom. But its maybe powered by recycled iPod batteries.

I think they've both got their ascetic upsides and downsides, but I'm sure the Rolls is the only one with anything true under the hood.
Right now I just want me a Dong Feng. Look! They're even driving it like a Hummer. Screw you center line, I'm a fuckin Humm.. er Dong Feng!

That's fair because China bought Hummer off GM. The US military, luckily, is not purchasing very many Hummers anymore because they aren't IED resistant.

Why bother wasting cash on research when it has already been done for you? With most items I prefer Chinese copies over originals. Though I doubt I could import a car as easily, won't fit in a small box.

Apparently that Geely Merrie 300 (Mercedes C-class copy) costs about $9000~$11000 in China. So reasonable.

Mostly weak engines. There's nothing much you can do with powerful engines on Chinese roads. Just powerful enough to keep the power/weight ratio acceptable.
The Geely Merrie 300 (Mercedes C-class copy), for example, has a 1.4 litre 4-cyl engine.

you havent met our taxi drivers have you??? each one of them (about over a million cabbies sound about right - they dominate the roads. for every 1 car theres like 10 taxis on the road) is probably either Ex F1 or Ex rally drivers. they are scary....

I just noticed a car across the road off my residence, it's a LADA but on closer inspecion I found out written Лада ie LADA in russian. I have to take a photo now that I know of it. It's remarkable that such vehicle found its way to here....

Maybe Chinese cabbies in London, Hong Kong, or New York. Most Chinese cities have bumper-to-bumper traffic in the main streets. Rural China has bad roads. Not much to do with cars with powerful engines, unless those are offroaders like the Dong Feng (above). The situation is nearly similar in India.

The world should attack China just for non-compliance with international trademark law. Am I joking or am I serious? Don't know. XD
I bet the corporations being shafted by China would foot the bill.
