Why the hell is this forum so dead?!

Then reply to them yourself. Threads die after a while, it goes like that on every forum. Just look on TPU, 99% of the threads is inactive.

I agree with Trip, the forums aren't dead, just a little slow. I signed up for GN when it first appeared on the scene, but have not been here in awhile. I was a little surprised at the low level of activity (it comes in bursts, similar to TPU) as the original GN there were times when you could hardly keep up with the posts.

Anyway, if you see someone on TPU that's not around on GPU ... invite them over.

May I suggest a more convenient format? I recently came over from Current Events. It may be that I am just used to the format there, but finding the forums and subforums seemed to have been easier. I have been at two other discussion boards with the same vBulletin light blue look to them, and maybe a half dozen other discussion boards. Three of these boards had a very simple, straight forward look to them.

I think all of the smaller boards are being hard hit by Newsvine, CNN and other major large size discussion boards. I believe that still leaves a role for the smaller boards to play for people that want to get to know each other, have a more personal and relaxed posting experience, enjoy friendly remarks back and forth, etc... The larger boards now have massive responses that move quickly. It is typical to see threads started and finished within a couple of days. It is much more impersonal, and despite the effort to moderate, there is a gargantuan number of posted with the right trolling the left and the left trolling the right. The partisan divide gets extremely monotonous. The only way to really participate is to post on a thread and keep going back and respond to the "friends" option. In short, a major investment of personal time.

Or how about, something we could do to entice members to join, someone mentioned contests... I am game... dig out some of that back closet hardware and software, donate it and give it away to members...people see stuff being given away, they will join and maybe become hooked and post regularly. This is a great open forum and the net needs it, they just don't all know the path to enlightenment.

Run the contests for awhile and see if it works.

I have some... I was going to sell it, but I would be willing to give for the 'cause. :)

A thread will die when it's time has passed, but there will always be new threads.
