View Full Version : What To Do For My 18th?

DaveK

I turn 18 on the 13th of Feb, in Ireland turning 18 is the big deal, none of this sweet 16 and 21st crap. 18 is where it's at.

Unfortunately, I don't know what to do, the circumstances are kinda shit.

I'm moving house on the 20th, possibly sooner, so the apartment I'm living in has to stay neat and tidy as it's on the market at the moment so people will be viewing it (with me still in it) so I can't have people over messing stuff up and there isn't much room anyway.

I was thinking of postponing it until the 20th which is the week after IF we can move into the house sooner. But even then, I don't have money for drink (Around €150-200 worth), it's cheaper up in Northern Ireland by about 25-50% but it costs a bit in petrol to drive up there so you don't really save that much.

Another option is going to a nightclub but I can't do that on my 18th as I have to apply for an I.D as I don't have a passport because I can't get one and there would only be a few friends with me.

What do you guys think? I'm off school the week after my b-day so that gives me a chance to hit up a nightclub during the week if I can get an I.D.

Such a pain, to get into clubs you need an age card, passport or drivers licence. The only one I can get is the age card and you need an I.D to apply for that and can't apply before you're 18 :S I'm applying for the I.D needed for the age card tomorrow, hope I get them in time.

I just found out the age card takes 6 to 8 weeks, lazy Garda shites. Not much point in celebrating your 18th 8 weeks after it happened...

I want to.

I'd actually like to go skydiving but it costs like €500 for 1 drop...

I'm hoping to have a party at my house, it will be €200 out of my own pocket though :S

My community is full of polish and black people who are all on free medical care and most likely have jobs. They have enough.

I've been turning 18 for quite some years now. Just get drunk like every weekend.

DaveK

Just been calculating prices of drink for my party, it's coming out of my pocket:

40 Bacardi Breezers, 16 cans of Bulmers and 40 bottles of Budweiser. Here it costs €200, in Northern Ireland it costs €108.

Plan #1: invite less people.

Plan #2: invite the teetotallers...

Plan #3: invite people who think that since it's your party you shouldn't be paying for anything.

Plan #4: do as Dan suggested + Whitelotus' suggestion... so apart from getting drunk make sure you also invite a couple of escorts ;)

Bacardi Breezer? Only 40 cans of beer? I just lost respect for the Irish.

Prices here are... 6 crates (24x.33) of beer > ~60 euros. Some wine, I think like 2 people drink that and I still have some stronger stuff around.

If I'm going up to Northern Ireland I'll buy way more. It's just the cost that's the problem.

Bacardi Breezers are for the girls and EXTREMELY expensive

I'm paying for the drink because my mam can't afford it, I'll get money off my friends anyway so it will work out fine. I don't mind paying for it, it's just I don't get a lot for my money here, I'll have to take a trip up to Northern Ireland.

10x Bacardi Breezer (4 Bottles Each) - €99.90 (€48.10 - N. Ireland)
2x Bulmers (8 Cans Each) - €35.68 (€25.80 - N. Ireland)
4x Budweiser (10 330ml Bottles Each) - €64.00 (€34.53 - N. Ireland)

Total: €199.58 (€108.43)

If I go up North I can get way more drink, I don't think that will be enough anyway :S

A box of 20 Miller is €20 here so I'll grab 2 of them as well.

40 bottles of beer?

I'm with Banjo on that one. That wouldn't last an hour here in WI.
We used to have an annual pig roast and would buy about 20 cases of beer.

Don't invite 12 year old girls to your party, you'll regret that. Anyone drinking Breezers is 12, no exception.

Beer prices in .nl per supermarket (http://www.goedkoopbier.nl/bieraanbiedingen), that's the page with the things on sale :)

Seems a crate of Grolsch (24x .33) is €8.49 at Dirck III, which is around the corner here. Irish prices are retarded. Yay for me.

Made a change to my list, instead of 4x10 bottles of Bud for €64 I found 4x8 cans for €56, it's cheaper and there's more. Why can't they sell Bacardi in crates? a box of like 24 would be much cheaper than packs of 4 and it's not even 330ml bottles like everything else.

The current numbers are 40 Bacardi (275ml), 16 Bulmers (500ml), 32 Buds (500ml), 40 Miller (330ml).

It's crap weather remember, the outside is good for beer these days.

Yeah, it's usually around 0C at night here so I can just keep the drink outside if there's no room in the fridge.

I'm guessing breezers is like smirnoff ice? The hottest girls always drink those around here. Sure its impressive when a chick can shoot whiskey, but in most cases that comes with a mustache...

Well if it isn't weird...

I just googled "make your own bacardi breezer" and the first site on google was forums.overclockers.com.au (http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?t=537618) wtf?  Lol check that out.

Anyway, if you just buy a bottle of bacardi (you can use vodka or rum instead), some sparkling water and a couple of jiuce varieties and mix them up, there's your own home-made (and very cheap) bacardi breezer. You'd be making 40-50 of them with a single bottle of spirit!

Same class of crap yes. The women I drink with mostly drink beer, some drink wine. No breezers, I'd smack them in their face if they tried. People would respect my decision to do so. None have facial hair.

Smirnoff Ice, Bacardi Breezer and WKD are all pretty much the same. They cost twice as much as a beer or cider and come in tiny 275ml bottles.

I like to buy the cheapest drink possible as long as it tastes nice. Kopparberg/Bulmers are both €2.20 a can but I found a drink that's €1.50 a can and tastes more or less the same, it also has a higher ABV, it's 6% whereas the other two are 4.5%. Win win.

They're all roughly the same price in a club/bar as far as I know, though.

Not all beers taste the same, I'm very picky with what I drink and eventually found one I like, well two, Miller and Budweiser. If I don't like it I pretty much just force it down.

Dutch Gold is one of the cheapest beers available in Ireland that isn't from Lidl/Aldi and it's piss in a can, it's something every guy drinks when they start drinking. Standing outside an off-licence asking everyone to buy you drink, getting Dutch Gold then hanging outside a youth center or in a field. Ah the good old days of knacker drinking.

Anyway, I hated Dutch Gold and started drinking Miller and got used to it. You have to drink it for awhile to get used to it.

Just got word that I'll be having my party in a pub, WOOT :D

The benefits of this are I can invite waaaay more people and I don't have to worry about buying drink for a party. I find parties in pubs to be more fun anyway though they're expensive (€40-50 a night) compared to a party at a house which is free but people will be buying my drink for me :D

Mixed drinks are cheaper. Rum and coke is much more efficient for lubricating groups of people than bacardi breezers (which taste gross anyway). You can make margaritas on the cheap. Vodka, plus club soda, plus grenadine is cheap and effective too.

Aye, just make a cooler full of pink panty dropper (google it) and you're good. Maybe 50 bucks out, and 50 people can drink on it all night.

most do, because they can't wait till they are 21.

actually most of the crew we used to go up to Canada when we were 17-18ish and spend a week or so at a clip up there.

I think we would get rid of the drinking issues if we lowered the drinking age back to 18. because the auroa of doing something illegal is gone.

Hell once i turned 21 i frankly haven't touched a beer yet alone any kind of mixed drink and thats been a while.

DaveK
02-03-2010, 04:39 PM
Most people I know started drinking at like 12-13. There's no drinking age in the privacy of your home anyway. I can throw the biggest party ever and the police can't do anything about the underage drinking because it's actually legal in a house and they have as much power as a neighbor for complaints about music.

I don't see the point in drinking laws anyway, people get away with it. If you can't catch anyone, why enforce it? Same with weed, weed is SO easy to get here, so many people I know smoke it like it's cigarettes.

I'm 17 and am never even asked for I.D at pubs, the only time I was asked for I.D was at the entrance to a club, I wasn't asked at the bars in there. That's a good thing though, I agree with checking I.D at clubs, last thing you want is a bunch of kids at your club and getting raided by the police, lol Redz.

Papahyooie
02-03-2010, 10:09 PM
Even here in the US nobody really cares about underage drinking, its just that someone who is younger is more likely to be irresponsible about it and go drive or do something stupid while drinking. Thats the only reason I can see for drinking age laws, and most people (exept health nuts who wouldnt drink at any age) agree.

Actually i started at 17 when my High school sweetheart and i split up, i just couldn't hack it, i was an emotional wreck, and took to alcohol, heavy metal, and working 120 hours a week as my medication, being drunk was normal, or at least slightly buzzed, it got rids of the thoughts of suicide.

while i am not proud of what i did i will say that i did streighten my self out, and now im a normal human again.
