virgin mobile's coverage is crap in my area. I would have gotten one through them.
2.2 is ok.... cyanogenmod is good but some people have issues with the optimus devices. Im gonna wait with rooting till I expect less phone calls. I'm caught up in some med. drama (but I will not speak of it here at all) and I got docs calling a lot.... so the mod can hold off till then.

Virgin has unlimited data but most of the time I just use a wifi connection - $35/month, no contract. I love the LG Optimus V even if it is only ver2.2. I'm thinking of rooting it but at the moment I'm really happy with it and have a 32gig card in it for when I load up some video and maybe some tuned.
Is that 4g, and do you actually get good 4g coverage if it is? Also, an issue I see with a lot of those no-contract, unlimited everything phones is that you're limited to whatever phones they want to offer. If I take the plunge, I want the best I can get.

Well, whatever it is, I hope it gets better.

Yeah it's limited but the Optimus V got such good reviews, I didn't care. Can't speak to the 4G coverage since I never go anywhere, but they use the Sprint network, so it's probably not great. Lots of traffic and congestion in this area.

my optimus has really good battery life. 19-24 hours of heavy usage.
you get better battery life without lots of widgets and live wallpapers drain it fast.

I use an app that tracks the battery drain caused by each running app and can control which apps start with the phone. I'll play with it some to see if I can get it optimized. But with 2 backup batteries, its not a big deal right now.

Sprint's 4G coverage is absolute shit here. I have it on my laptop and I've only gotten a 4G signal once so far. The 3G is slower than shit.

I'd have to go look. Dr. Battery maybe? Just go to the android market on you computer, select free apps and type in battery as the search term. There are several apps that do this.

Yeah you run into that a lot in the android marketplace - unless you're going in just to grab one particular app.

Got me new phone in the wrong colour, the white one. Whatever. It's pretty good, but I'm very dissapointed that it cannot sync with Outlook. And it looks like I have to buy a program if I want to do it. Bittttccchhhh.
EDIT: Opera mobile is awesome though. Im not used to the keyboard thoug but ill get the hamg of it eventually i guess.

Turns out Samsung have their own software for that called Samsung Kies. It works nice but all contacts were doubled on the phone plus some old ones turned up. Hmm.

GF wanted a better phone for texting than what she previously had, so I bought her an LG Xenon GR500 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875136130). She loves it now.

Samsung Galaxy t989 here, just picked it up a month or so ago lovin' it so far! Still learnin' how to use all the features but it seem's almost limitless, only thing i dislike is i need an app to play my WMA CD collection, maybe a larger capacity battery. Big step up from the HTC TouchPro2/BlackBerry Pearl i was using before :D

I can't complain about the battery on my old Samsung Galaxy S or current S II, typical smartphone battery. Has enough battery to last 2 days of moderate use but I tend to stick it on charge at night.

My ex-GF has that phone, I fucking hated it. The screen was terrible because it was too small and is resistive not capacitive so when scrolling I always accidentally clicked into something.

For making phone calls and text messages it works fine though. The controls only suck for me when entering the settings menu, where some sliders are used. Though I ran that calibration thing offered somewhere in the menus, which seemed to have improved controls compared to the controls at the default settings.
It is not a super phone but it does what it does and it seems a decent replacement for my worn-out Samsung SGH-D600 that I had for ~4-5 years.

The 1900Mah Anker battery in my phone lasts well over a day, much better than the 1520Mah stock one. Not bad for a dual core smartphone.

I'd never heard of Anker, but I got a couple of backup batteries for the Optimus V that were Ankers - plus a pin-type charger. Don't really lilke those since you have to line up the pins, but since I don't sleep at regular intervals, it's preferable to worrying about whether the phone is in my shirt pocket or charging.

I've only got version 2.2 on my phone but I love it. It has all the benefits of a huge app marketplace with none of the walled-garden bullshit you get from Apple. From what people have posted about Apple though it seems to be a much slicker interface, but I don't know if it's worth the trade off.

Same here twil....
so easy to pick up any app you want. there are tons of cool free ones.
apple's UI looks cool but I hate the locked-down-ness of the app environment. also there are no non-contract iphones in my region.

iphone itself is great hardware, thats the key.
the software can be better (facebook app, for example) but generally its on par. the problem is that there is no personalisation, and that every phone company wants to lock you into insane contracts just to get an iphone. if you dont buy it outright (and jailbreak it!) its not worth it.

Used droid phones for years and then bought a iPhone 4s. Its the most stable hardware I've used yet in a phone, user friendly and just works 100% of the time. I can't say that for any of the 4 droid phones I've had. I'm sold and will continue to buy the apple phones going forward. (Not blindly though) as I will go back to droid if it really steps up.

hardwares solid, softwares not. had to jailbreak in a task manager program to mine to end closed apps to prevent lag, and end task some frozen apps that just refused to play nice sometimes.
lost my music dozens of times thanks to itunes failures as well.

Had a iphone 3gs 16gb, hated it, no customization, unless you JB it. Also hate itunes, so I will never partake of the electronic apple again.
My sensation is sweet though, 1080p recording, full flash support in the browser, all the USB goodness, ie tethering, reverse tethering, so easy to put music etc on it.
Ios is easier to use than android for less savvy people, but Android lets you do much more with your device.

I used Foobar to sync my music to my iPhone. Even converts on the fly.
And you what version of the software were you on? Since Ver3, all you have to do to kill tasks is double tap the home button, then long press the programs you want to kill and hit the x.
