I'd say wait for that. But all in all, it is a good phone.

Same here. It's hands down more enjoyable to use, tweak and find apps for than my dad's HTC Touch Pro.
Yeah, Win mobile has a ton of apps for it, but they are scattered all over the web. iPhone apps are easy to find. And jailbreaking it only made it better.
It's not perfect, by any means, but it is a damn good phone. It took me completely by surprise.

Currently I have my CECT 599, Last Thursday I kept it in my pocket with some plastic glasses and jumped into a moshpit though. So my touch screen doesn't work at all. Can only pick up the phone now, can't use it otherwise.
Either way it's a silly phone, a lot of functionality but it's all half. Can watch photo's, can't rotate. Can listen music, can't fast forward. Stuff like that. I like having strange toys though.
I now ordered some Chinese HTC clone, $155 including shipping and it runs Windows mobile 6. Sounds like a nice toy to me. users claim build quality is good and it works well. Since it's Windows mobile it ran run basically any software. Can even look into making my own useless crap for it. Will take ~3 weeks before it's here though :(

I like it a lot. Both the onscreen keyboard and hardware keyboard are really easy to type on. That's very important for a texter like me lol...The screen is gorgeous and the touch feature is sensitive and precise. I think they did a good job with integrating TouchFlo 3D into Windows, the TouchFlo menus usually have advanced options that take you more into the OS options. Camera is nice, but I do wish when the flash was on it would only come on when the picture was taken rather than stay on all the time. Of course there are a ton of things you can do with it and to it, it's Windows lol...overall I'm very pleased with it.
Oh btw Erocker, if you would be getting it for Verizon don't bother, they have a different version that's cut-down from other carriers.

It's not like he couldn't put a cooked rom on it anyway. I'm almost positive a Verizon specific cooked rom already exists for it, to give it back all the features HTC intended.

I don't have a phone. Well actually I have one, but no line... It's a samsung 'Z'something which dad bought me 2 years ago, now only used by my daughter to play games and use its camera.
The reasons?
(I'm weird... be prepared!)
1) I hate carrying stuff. I never carry a bag even for my stuff, not even for occasions like parties and weddings. Lol I smile when I hear about other girls purchasing Prada and Louis Vuitton $$$... All my needs go into hubby's bag (yeah including tampax etc!) Though for some weird reason I don't think this is a valid excuse since I don't mind carrying my 12lb laptop around? Basically all I carry around is either my laptop (frequently but not always) and my 16GB Corsair (always) and cigarettes (always). Not once I found myself getting funny stares while ordering a take-away for example.... only to notice I had been holding my pendrive, together with lanyard, in the same hand holding my money... or having the pendrive round my neck instead of jewellery and stuff like the other girls (which reminds me... I don't wear my jewellery either lol!)
2) I hate speaking on phones. Perhaps for the same reasons that I hate being on msn... Just can't stand being "on" with someone and pressured to speak. I want just to be able to write and say what I feel like when I feel like it, and nothing else.

You could always just put a few things in your laptop bag and carry your needed stuff around that way.
And I completely agree with #2. I hate talking to people on the phone or in chat in real time. If I wanted to talk in real time, I'd talk to you in person. There are the occasional exceptions tho, like when I talk to D on the phone, but that's only because he lives hundreds of miles away. I still don't do it too often tho. I have my iPhone mostly in case of emergencies, as I work a lot and my kids often have to be home alone for a few hours a day, and I just like gadgets. lol.

I don't find that practical because I'd be having a phone only for personal bother. I'd end up with dad calling me during the weekends on work-related stuff... which I hate (gimme my time for the weekend!)
For me a cellphone's just a necessity - true today's phones got plenty of awesome functions, but I already have stuff catering for those 'awesome functions' so a cellphone is extra.
Firstly, hubby has his own cellphone. I'm always with hubby... so why have a cellphone both of us if we're always together? Secondly, whenever I'm alone, I'd either be at home with the landline phone, or at work. In the event that the house phone develops some fault I have my pc's and email. If my phone adsl line develops a fault I can get on one of my neighbours'.... I never try to but I get a signal just as strong as my own that sometimes on the laptop I find myself worrying on how come I can't access my NAS drive only to realise that the lappie automatically connected to one of my unsecured neighbours' network rather than my own... duh
Further to that, I'm practically known to all acquaintances as being the one who leaves the phone ringing, but answers an email promptly. So, my friends know what to choose, even those who have fancy 'blackberry' phones.... (ugh)...
I might get a cellphone one day and bring myself to use it.... when it has sufficient cpu and graphics power to run todays' games in 1080p, an adequately large monitor to do justice to 1080p and be sufficiently light to be carried using just one (girl) arm.
Till that time comes... all cellphone companies can just forget my custom! Because I'd just resort to lugging around my laptop for gaming and answering emails.

One of the purchases I regret the most. A first gen Sanyo Katana.
Thankfully, due to the lady behind the counter being all mystically entranced in my awesome (or she was just really pushing for a sale) I only paid 5 dollars and change for the $300 dollar phone. Managed that with a 3 year contract and a 100 dollar in store discount which actually shouldn't have applied to me. Still, its been 2.5 years of annoyance.
The phone auto calls from my pocket, even though flip phones are supposed to 'solve' that. If I have anything, even loose change, in my pocket with the phone it will call someone and they get to listen to endless pants rustling. Whats even cooler is when I put my car keys in with the phone, the phone auto dials and then it starts my car with the remote starter. Its due to the buttons on the side, hold it down for 1 second, its unlocked. Hold it down again, redial.
Oh, and after 3 months of use (residing in Jean pockets mostly) it was already looking years old (stripped of color). The things made cheap plastic with the few metal parts covered in really cheap paint.

I didn't even think of that. There's an article somewhere explaining that the Verizon version actually has a few hardware differences than the others. Let's see if I can find it....
Not the exact one but...
"Verizon's version of the Pro is a little slower than the Fuze and more than a little slower than the Sprint Touch Pro. Verizon went with 192 megs of RAM rather than the Sprint and AT&T versions' 288 megs, and that may explain the difference, especially when several applications are running in the background. In particular, running Opera Mobile 9.5 (also memory and resource hungry) can slow down TouchFLO 3D. We noticed this with the original GSM HTC Touch Diamond, a device that also had 192 rather than 288 megs of RAM."

I'm trying to imagine the different ways you could have done that...
1) Phone in empty glass. Poured beer inside.
2) Phone outside glass. Poured beer on phone instead.
3) Hit glass/can which fell on phone
4) Was drunk and vomited .5L of beer on phone...

I have and LOVE my motorola SLVR L7. Best damn phone in the world. It doesnt do much more than make calls and play a few simple games, its no smartphone but it was one of the first non-smartphones to have mp3 player on it, SD card slot, java support and all that. Most important though, ive had 2 of them over the past 5 (i think) years. They're made out of aircraft aluminum, not plastic, so when I dropped mine off my motorcycle at 80mph (yes... 80) all it did was scuff the paint and break the glass over the camera lens. My uncle had one of those military spec motorola phones that are supposably un-killable... he did the same thing a couple of weeks later... it shattered. I finally killed mine (not really) by leaving it on the dash of my car in 100+ degree weather and it toasted the plastic keypad. I could have just replaced the keypad, but I wanted a new, not scratched one. Then, i didnt like the new one i bought, as it was cingular branded (had that terrible cingular boot-up screen) and had Itunes on it instead of the generic mp3 player, like my old unbranded one. So i took the guts out of the old one and transferred them to the new chassis (i say chassis instead of case, as theres alot more than just switching exterior panels involved... lol) and bam, new, good looking case with unbranded software. AND i still have the old guts if this one ever craps out.
I also toyed around with a blackjack for awhile but went straight back to my beloved SLVR.

is it the Fuze? by HTC?

I thought the Fuze was just AT&T's version of the Touch Pro? In which case, it would be almost the same specs as the Pro with the exception of a different keyboard layout, but it would have a 528 MHz Qualcomm CPU. If I remember correctly, Dan stated he was getting some Chinese HTC clone that used Windows Mobile.

It is Chinese, HTY 3238. It has HTC logo's though, comes with HTC box and HTC manual, the phone in the manual is slightly different though, it opens differently and had the SIM card/SD slot in a different place. I'm guessing the manual is from the actual HTC touch 3G. Am liking the thing so far though.

well....i've had a V3 Razr (Verizon) for around 5 years now and have liked it a lot. i hacked / unlocked it early on and got a bunch of ringtones and wallpapers on there i never used. never use bluetooth, web, none of that
so being my personal cell use has dropped to next to nothing but i was paying $45 a month for the privilege of answering several calls a month, i have decided to tread cautiously into the prepaid world. and cheaply :p
so just to get started my NEW phone is one of these:
http://i30.tinypic.com/2i2902e.jpg
oh yeah thats a $10 phone. $15 because the carrier (Tracfone) gives "Double Minutes For Life" (or DMFL) with it. which is a total gimmick because the regular minutes are overpriced and DMFL just brings the service into line with some competitors
apparently this phone was intended for "emerging markets" (no less then 7 African languages are included) so it looks pretty good i have read. and it makes calls and text messages. a few games, calendar, stopwatch, couple other things. thats it. it is also the phone Tracfone has given free to 1.4m poor people on their "Safelink" program. which is contracted by the government to assist in the Lifeline phone service help program for the poor
i have a poor people phone :(
i hope i can get used to it. gets here in a couple days, if not sooner

I own and love a HTC Touch Pro, on the sprint network. Since it is windows based you can of course edit the registry. I have changed the touch sensitivity, system cache, gsensor properties, the opening/closing gif animations, and have CONSIDERABLY increased the battery life by simply modifying several polling intervals.
All of that done, my phone runs smoother with absolutely no problems:)

How do you edit the registry on WM phones?
dcf-joe
09-22-2009, 01:47 PM
I use a nifty program called PHM Registry Editor, which you can download to and run directly on your phone, no pc required. Most of the modifications will be in hkey local machine, but some will be in hkey current user.
On top of the other changes listed in my above post, I have also experimented with the timeout interval. It is like typing in msconfig on your pc and lowering the timeout interval in order to boot up faster. Well, I changed mine to 5 s on my phone, which makes the phone boot through that intro screen a LOT faster:D Anything below 5 s always caused shell32 errors on my phone

I have my iPhone mostly in case of emergencies, as I work a lot and my kids often have to be home alone for a few hours a day, and I just like gadgets. lol.
agreed i hate talking on the phone the whole reason i got my iphone and the whole reason i went smart phone in general was so i could do work on it when i was out of the house e-mail im needing to take notes on the fly etc are all wicked important to me...but like "omg hi how are you today? ya? im at the mall right now were are you? no just shopping." like seriously no way...NO way.

Hey guys I upgraded to a G1 today. I LOVE it. Nice touch screen but a full keyboard underneath. It is a 3G phone but coverage is spotty where I live but the WiFi kicks in and works great. Battery life is worse than a laptop though, maybe a full day of browsing and media but the standardized MiniUSB port for power is nice to got power from about anywhere.
I've used an iPhone and this is right up there with all the touchscreen smart phones.

Just installed a Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM today on my CDMA Touch Pro, and I must say it's great. It's like a brand new phone! I had been having a few problems before, like my camera would just sit with the spinny circle after taking a picture, or the phone would turn off sometimes after ending a call. Didn't even have to flash a new radio!

I installed that 2 weeks ago, just before I lost my stylus (again, keep losing them things). Had to reset it this weekend as it became completely unresponsive. The main difference is the interface, feature-wise it offers nothing new, I do miss the old start menu as it showed the last used programs, scrolling down the new start menu every time to go to open a program is annoying. Same for the new today screen, instantly moved that back to 6.1.
Also, my wifi doesn't work anymore, I hardly use that so that's fine but still. Might find some more features broken. Then again, it is a homebrew ROM so I can't bitch, I guess they'll update/fix it it the near future.

I haven't really noticed anything added to 6.5 over 6.1 apart from the new home screen, but I don't use that anyway. This ROM uses HTC's ToucFlo3D 2, and has a TON of built in apps, ranging from a WiFi Router app to a program that turns text into Morse Code using the camera flash!

Phone arrived yesterday. And well, I'm already selling it again.
DAMN that phone is not made for me.
- The cam sucks even more than I previously imagined (and I imagined it will suck, but suckage at THAT level come on... my five year old Sharp GX30 with its 1mp cam made better pics and videos...).
- Its flimsy, I'm afraid to lay it on the table too hard... I had to install a program that denies the phone from accessing the internet every now and then (which wouldn't be that bad if it would DISCONNECT again, but no it keeps connected till you MANUALLY deconnect)...
I need a sturdier phone that is more easy to operate. Windows Mobile is not bad, but damn do something with it! My Samsung Pixon that I have now makes everything much better, despite the fact its OS is much worse. AND its party aluminium and very high quality plastic, the HTC, as previously mentioned, just feels and IS cheap.
Its nowhere near the expectations and doesn't meet the promises made by the adverts by FAR. I therefore do NOT recommend that phone. (ch)

Right here buddy. http://gizmodo.com/5281397/how-to-install-windows-mobile-65-right-now
That's the guide I used. Mind you, there isn't an official release of 6.5 for the Touch Pro so you'll have to use a custom made ROM. All the steps are there and are easy to follow. You don't have to use a new radio either, my Alltel Touch Pro worked fine with the stock one. Just make SURE you use only CDMA ROMs and not the GSM ones. You got any other questions just hit me up, I messed around with it for a bit. Try Energy ROM or Mighty ROM.

First one, the D-pad stopped working. Second, the whole keyboard stopped working. Third one got stuck in 1x Roam. Fourth one...nothing yet, but it's only been a week. The way I see it something will happen soon. Verizon told me if this one goes out I can get a whole new phone. Here's to wishful thinking!

That reminds me... in the depths of the internet I found some instructions on how it would be possible... I'll try and report if one works. Since all the latest Samsung phones use the same OS, I reckon if it works on my Pixon it'll work on your Jet aswell.
I DID IT! I am da ultra haxx00r, ph33r me! All you need is a .jar/jad file, TKFileexplorer and the phone codes to access the system to update the database. Getting the files to the phone is easy, but I didn't know you had to update the Java database... WELL, no all is good, yaay! The Pixon has become the perfect phone.

Yes my Pixon is inferior. *cough* You know a friend of mine used his iPhone in light rain once... and it broke. I was filming at the Rammstein concert, they sprayed foam into the audience, my phone was covered in foam but still works.
I can throw my phone around, it survives a one meter fall with ease, whereas the iphone... oh yeah, my camera is better, too. Okay, the touchscreen of the iphone is better...

Unfortunately, After wasting almost 2 hours of trying to figure out how to upload games onto my Jet - I thought I struck gold when I saw they had been detected, but my joy was short lived as the game itself wasnt made for the Jet as MobileHeart.com had described but more for a nokia.....
the very few games I had downloaded from the site never worked anyway so Im back to square one.....
.:Edit:. Im sure someone will release a custom firmware for the phone eventually, just like for the iphone. until then I'll just have to stick with my PSP & whatever crap trial games I got on the samsung or carry my W910i around with me that had quite a few games on.

www.getjar.com there are some really nice games around, plus you have to set your phone, and then all the games displayed will work. I've downloaded a dozen or so, and they all do. Granted most of them aren't touch screen friendly. You have to dig through a bit.

Better because Apple decides what you do with it?
Personally I hate the way the touchscreen of the iPhone works (even though it is superior from a technical standpoint). I prefer my WM phone which lets me do whatever the fuck I want, MS even has a pretty framework so I can easily make my own little tools for it. And a major advtantage is the price, you can have a decent WM mobile phone for about €100 (.hk ftw), iPhones cost what, €400-500?

The screen of the iPhone is really good, you can't deny that. But I hate everything else. I want mechanical buttons. I have many iPhone owning friends ranting about the touch screen not working properly, so they cannot accept calls etc, and if you use it in the rain it gets damaged. My Samsung touch screen phone drowned in foam on the Rammstein concert and it wasn't affected at all.
Plus I really hate the iTunes idea. You're pretty restricted with the iPhone. I can drag and drop anything I want to my phone. Plus I really like Samsungs OS. It makes sense to me.
Pure WM phones like the HTCs and the current Sonys well, you can alter almost everything, but I kinda like simlicity on a phone. I tinker around with my PCs enough.
Well I guess you can call me a Samsung fanboy.

Resricted you can jailbreak it and then can use it with any sim and get a whole host of apps not with itunes app store. personally its a million times better than my old phone oh and the safari browser is excellent.

I have to admit I look with envy to the iPhone users as some apps are quite cool. And the games, ah, the games...
And Samsung phones have full qwertz/y, too ;)
And I don't really use the phone to surf the net, so I don't have an opinion on that matter.
I'd get an iPhone just because, but it costs a fortune (1000 bucks +) without a contract. Of course you can tie yourself two years to a contract and pay ridiculous amounts of money every month, making the device even more expensive in the end. That being said, Switzerland is the dark ages when it comes to mobile phone contracts & costs. I think I have to look into the iPod touch series... all the apps and games work on that just as they do on the iPhone, right?

And the games, ah, the games...
MorphGear/fpsece + MSI BGP100. Apart from that there are countless ports of classic games like lemmings, diablo, warcraft 2, ttdx and one of the best things ever: ScummVM. Huge ISO's for either ScummVM or fpsece are no problem as you can actually swap your memory card if/when needed, they cost like $14 for 8GB.
I think I order an iPod touch. Then I don't need to upgrade to the new Pixon phone, and it saves me money. Plus I watch a lot of videos on my phone, that would become obsolete and the 3.5" display of the iPod would be perfect for that. Not to mention the apps and games. Those Java games my Phone is capable of kinda suck, and real touch screen support without those stupid emulated arrows is rare.
Good decision y/n Trip say something :D

I'm getting REALLY fed up with Verizon right now. This is my 4th HTC Touch Pro in a rather short amount of time. Each time one breaks, they tell me "If this one goes out, you can get a different model" Well, now THIS one has broken, and still no new phone. Just another refurb in the mail. I tried unsuccessfully to explain to the lady that I didn't want another one of this model, and that it'd just be a matter of time before it goes out too, leaving me with another broken piece of crap. As I finished explaining that, she replies with "So do you want this one sent to the same address?" FUCK! She then explains that the only way I can get a different phone without paying full retail price is if 3 go out within a 90 day period...first mention I've heard of this, but ok. What do you guys think of this situation?

He said I have to get a suggested model, but I'm hoping I can sweet talk him into letting me change over to Android. Here's to hoping!
And after two weeks, I'm selling my iPod Touch again. Why? iTunes. I just spent a fricken HOUR to find out why iTunes does not want to connect with my iPod anymore, then installed iTunes on a second computer FOUND OUT that it won't work like this, had to completely RESET my iPod & delete ALL data on it and now FINALLY its done. I just had to get the music from PC A to an USB stick to put it on PC B where the new iTunes is. Then I had to sync that thing again, and now all I want is on there. Except my apps are gone forever. And to think that I only wanted to add ONE album to the iPod. With ANY normal mp3 player with simple drag&drop, adding a new album would take what, ten seconds including plugging in the device? Sorry Trip, but iTunes and I just can't get along.

So whats the average you keep your phones/mp3 players for a week?? :D
Quite low actually. Just the last month was a bit a hassle, went through three phones and two mp3 players lol. But I tend to keep my phones minimum a year, and mp3 players till they break. I had three in my life, the first was a 512mb that got replaced by a 20gb soon because 512mb weren't cutting it anymore. Had that for almost two years, then it broke and I bought that Cowon thing thats expandable via SD cards that I still have. I actually only bought the iPod because I felt left out at work, everybody had an iPod Toch or an iPhone lol. But I'm not an Apple person :p I actually only used the iPod for playing games and reading the news, hardly for listening to music.

Way faster than my Touch Pro ever thought about being, on both network and on-phone tasks. Despite what some reviews say, I really like the keyboard. It will just take some acclimation being that it's not a standard QWERTY. Overall definitely worth getting hassled by Verizon for.

I absolutely love it. Being that it is still fairly new, Android does still have a few quirks, but IMO it's way ahead of where Windows Mobile was at the same point. This thing multitasks like a pro, and it really doesn't interrupt what you're doing if you get a message or email. When I was looking into getting this phone, I read mixed reviews regarding battery life, but for me it's great...I can go from 10 am until 2 am with still ~30% left with heavy texting and moderate internet use. Very solid design and construction as well. Don't regret switching over from my HTC Touch Pro one bit.

got a Blackberry 8900, and a SPV650e on contracts and almost every windows phone from the original SPV, misc Ericssons and Nokias...
Hasn't everybody? Better question would be "How many Nokia chargers you got?"

:D
The thing is this one is tough by just pure luck it seems!
I've had two of these phones the other one exploded into pieces when I dropped it once
My friends used to joke I could destroy any phone without trying as I managed to break A Nokia that was made out of titanium (nutkick)
Most of my phones die in alcohol related incidents. It's impressive how little I learn from my mistakes.

gotta love the tough nokias! :p
My mom's got the 3210 and she doesn't want to change it (slap) she says she likes it and does its job fine.
Go figure....

It is a mighty little tough guy though!
Dad's another story, I can't keep track of which phone/s he's got because he's always changing them...

In most cases that phone probably is sufficient for everyone. I've been using an M35 (http://www.limundo.com/slika-Siemens-m35-2618x400.jpg) for many years until I drowned it. You could throw it against walls and it would not break, amazing device. Though When it finally went to phone heaven I decided I do like to have an SMS history (ie see sent items) because I tend to have odd messages in the morning and wouldn't know what kind of strange conversations I had while drunk.
In conclusion: I vote SMS history is vital.

What are the issues with it ? and what about E72?
Yes the 3G coverage is poor, but customer service for the phone is horrid. Google offers limited assistance, only through emails mind you, and then ends up sending you to T-Mobile or HTC depending on what type of problem it is. I'd wait for a little while for them to get it together before I dove into it...but that's just me.

I've got a
Nokia E71
Nokia 6120 CLassic
Nokia N-Gage QD
Nokia 1110 :P
next phones on the list are:
Nokia E72 and Nexus One :rockout:
I had an N-Gage QD, the Classic N-Gage too. Both were solid, cheap and reliable. I had my Classic for nearly 2 years until it broke. It made a nice dent when I hammered it into a concrete wall to vent my anger (this was before it broke lol)
It was awesome, me and my friend would play Tony Hawk's against each other during class :D

I tend to keep my stuff in my pockets when I'm drunk, as when I'm drunk I'm with friends, no need for the phone :D
It was Parkour that broke the majority of my phone and mp3 players though, nothing worse then making a roof gap only to realise your phone came out as you were over teh abyss!

I had the Classic Ngage as well (still do have it around here, actually). It was so easy to pirate the games for it. lol. I also had a nintendo emulator on it. That was a blast.
Terrible as an actual phone tho. Took mine back twice thinking I got a bad one because reception was so terrible. My cheap-ass monochrome Nokia (of some sort) got way better reception.
