Okay erm where to start. Today while playing football shit got heated up and I said a few things and this guys cousin walks over and pushes me and I immediatly reply with a punch to the face. The reason I'm nervous is I can't have a criminal record because I want the best chance of getting into the armed forces but surely I was acting in self defence. What should I do if the fuzz turn up ?

well initially easiest awnser, you feared for your life, he insinuated the attack and your survival instinct kicked in and only wanted to watch out what was best for you...easiest awnser he started it your self defense for contact can mean self defense. i doubt anything would happen, if he did he would be stupid and do you have witnesses that he pushed you first if so, your most likely in the clear

Well, technically, you both committed assault, so if he files charges, so can you. Most of the time, shit like this won't ever have anything done. One time out where I sell soap, a guy hit a woman because she shoved him and both were guilty of assault, so neither wanted to press charges.

Thing is he is stupid. I've been in loads of fights but I'm really worried since i'm so close to getting into the navy and he knows this. I say it was self defence since he tried to make me fall.
Edit: JC remember this is UK law I don't think we can both be charged with assault.

They can't do shit. Who watched this? Was it just you and the other guys playing ball>? If so then it's just hear say and they won't do anything because it's your word against his.

Scottish football makes hockey look pathetic :p I doubt they would do anything but hell I hate taking a chance with that. Also I may have cut the guys eye I doubt that would amount to anything since it could have happened anywhere.

If you're so worried about your future, don't go punching guys in the face is the easiest answer.
The honest answer? If he wants to press charges, he can. You can press charges for the shove. Or you can handle it like men and keep the cops out of it.

What you should have done is walked away from the situation. Fighting never solves anything, if after walking away he still insisted on fighting than use self defense.

Dude the military doesn't care about a fight or two they are mainly concerend with felons so no breaking and entering or drugs.
And by the way DP I've seen you and I'm sure the guy is ok after taking one of your punches! :D Just kidding, did you clock him good?

I'l clock you if I ever see ya too ;) jk Yeah it was a good hit, enough so that he didn't do anything except walk away. He's bigger and older than me too lol I'm a skinny little guy.
@revenge and doninkansas
I get angry very easily especially when someone touches me. Especially if I don't like them already it was a reaction not a planned punch because I didn't realize it for a few seconds.

Self defence in a situation like this, as well as a cool head and NOT being the tattle tale is the best way to handle it.
I got kicked out of regular school for fighting, and beating the living shit out of other kids, mostly those with attitude problems that deserved it. But i found that just smiling and being honest about the situation and asking what they would do, no, what they would REALLY do goes along way.
One punk decided he needed to have my diskman, he ended up puking on the grass and crying as I explained to the cop that he was trying to take property that belonged to me. he wouldn't take no for an answer, and he resorted to violence, now much to his dismay. The cop turned the corner as I had slugged him again and again. He mentioned he had a knife in his pocket, and I though tno way in hell am I going to get cut. So I beat the shit out of him so he coudn't get to his knife. I would have curb checked him if the cop had not arrived, I have always wanted to do that, and eveytime someone really deserved it the cops show up.

You should have just killed him and hidden the body! Lol jk, if he says anything just tease him about the fact that he couldnt handle a punch from a smaller guy. That gets them all the time

I've been in one fight in my school days, a kid walked up and started shoving me, showing out to his friends, so I picked up a stainless steel pipe that had come off of one of those football training dummies (the rear support things that keep them from flipping over), and nailed him in the mouth with it. He lost 4 teeth and then punched me right in the forehead, breaking his hand.
I walked away unscratched and got into no trouble, because my parents were very well known and well to do people in SE KY.
Moral of the story? Get adopted by rich and/or famous people.

If you get angry just because someone you don't like touches you, you should either avoid crowds or find a way to get rid of it. It's just silly imo.
It's wierd though, I've never been in a fight for real, even if I've been in the midst of them. It's like they never concern me.
EDIT: Oh, and @ the post above me: That's just retarded.

Whats the difference between fighting and killing human beings in the armed forces. I really don't think they would care. On the other hand it could matter if you were going to apply for a higher ranking.

Difference is that one is killing the enemies of my country and the other is killing a fellow countryman (albeit who is a complete douche) Anyway I do want to get a really high rank in the navy. I'm not content with two or 3 ranks up.
