Just wondering if it's as decent as it seems.
Movies come in good condition?

Our local video place rents out disks that are trashed and won't refund.
I brought one back and told them it skipped so bad (after I cleaned it, it was badly scratched) that whole sections wouldn't play. They said, "yeah, people don't take care of them", and then put it back to rent to someone else.

Many of the movies are in clear plastic cases with nothing printed on the disks at all. I'm wondering if they are even legal copies.

Netflix is great. I had the service for over two years till I watched everything. If it's scrated, you send it back for another one free of charge.

Thanks JC, it just seems like $9 a month is dirt cheap and they pay shipping both ways.
There is usually a catch.

There is only one catch really. If you get the 3 DVD at a time plan and you get more than say 9 a month, they bump you from getting new releases. The fewer DVD's you get per month, the higher the chance that you are first in the que for new releases.

Otherwise, it's a great system. If it's lost in the mail, they will send you another and not charge you. Same if it's damaged.

Do you get bumped from the new releases even if most of what you rent are not new releases?

Just wondering. I'm not terribly interested in new releases as most of them are not what I like to watch anyway. I have no problem waiting for awhile before seeing a movie.

We usually only watch one or two movies a week ... if that.

Then you would never get bumped. My family had the 3 at a time. We would watch them all in one night and send em back. At one point, we were probably getting about 15 a month. It didn't matter if it was old or new, they saw it as we were getting our moneys worth and they were attracting new members with new releases.

I think I'll give it a try. The first month is free. Free is good.

Kreij if your not interested in New releases you may find the movies you want to watch are available on Demand through the watch instantly service
Plus you Basically get Starz with your netflix as Movies premier on Starz they become Instantly available to watch instantly

All that is included with the $8.99 package (more like $9.56)

I watch Netflix on my Xbox and MY HTPC and regular PC..

I actually have the Blu-Ray package witch is $2 more per month

Netflix is the best money you can spend entertainment-wise, period. You can get any movie you want shipped to you, or you can watch older movies (and some new releases) online, even in xbox 360. I've never heard of anyone being capped from watching new releases (not saying it doesnt happen, just that I've never seen it). I have seen no "catch" so far with them. Also worth being noted is that there are plugins for just about everything. Xbox360, XBMC, windows media center, all have plugins that use the on demand watch. Also, TV shows are on the on-demand. Great if you missed a season or something. Also great for old, obscure movies. I just watched the dark crystal the other day. I see things on there all the time that I probably have never bothered to watch otherwise, but it turns out to be awesome.

Go for it. You won't be disappointed.

I have the 2 at a time plan. Love it. I've been a member for nearly 5 years now, and don't plan to give it up any time soon. I have completely quit going to rental stores.

I've been interested in a movie rental service like this, only recently did we get something like it here.

The usual thing to do is go to a rental store and rent a movie, it's €5.35 for 1 movie for a day, Lidl recently started doing online rentals (Yes, Lidl lol) They have 4 plans and have a huge catalog of DVDs and even Blu-ray.

It's very convenient, you pick your movies, they send them out for free, you keep them as long as you want, you send them back for free then they send out the next one. The plans are good too, 2 movies a month is only €6.99 and the max package is 3 movies at a time with 24 rentals a month for €22.99. Best thing is you get the next movies in 2 days.

You never know..
My Mom can watch Netflix on a 500kb/s down speed connection
with a minor wait for the buffer to fill up..
If you can watch anything online you can watch Netflix on demand

Yeah, the on demand is pretty sweet, I have 3Mb DSL and I can stream SD easily, same doesn't go for the HD stuff tho.

His problem is not bandwidth, it's latency. Iirc, he's on a sat setup. I takes a really long time for your clicks to register, then it goes fast after the initial slowness.

My mom has sat internet, and Netflix does not like it at all.

I'd rather the DVD over streaming regardless of connection speed and so on. Less hassle :D

From what I've heard Hughes net is a nightmare from a support standpoint. I have WildBlue.

The best thing I can say about it is that it's somewhat better than dial-up.

I do it, streaming through my 5870 with some upscaling, then allow my Toshiba to finsih it. It looks as good as a DVD most of the time sometimes better. Two DVD's out at a time. The ability to watch movies when you want is great, somtimes the selection is limited, but with the DVD's in the mail it works well.

Worst issue I have had is you can't search properly using a WMC remote and netflix integration. Hulu desktop, and crackle work well too for freebies.

Netflix is only worth the money if a steady
stream of good movies are being offered
and from what I've seen of the new releases...
I would save my money.

Of course, I generally purchase totally obscure
Japanese or Independent movies from Ebay
so I'm not exactly your normal mainstream viewer.

Netflix has a huge library. Lots of older titles as well, some foreign, and to my happiness, lots of anime.
