Just got myself a pair of polk audio RTi A7's. It's my first 'real' set of speakers and I'm damn exciting to get them up and running (my receiver just got here today as well which is a sony str dn1000... also on sale of course).
What kind of sound systems do you guys have?

For PC, I use a headset. For music/movies/PS3, I use a Samsung HT-X50 5.1 1000W system. For car, I use a mix of 6x9 Polk Audio and 6.5" Alpine speakers.

Really freakin old set of desktop speakers that are so old the brand name has worn off of them. Used to have a logitec set, but got rid of them when I didnt have room for them in my dorm room when I was in college.
Living room, samsung 7.1 surround.
Car: used to have a audiobahn 12 inch sub with 500w amp, with pioneers all around the interior.
Now have 2 kenwood 12's in a box with a shitty no-name amp, and stock head unit. Going to get a sony head unit, and 1000w amp and probably sony xplodes for the deck and doors. Come oooon tax refund!

I have Bose 301's from a few years ago, a set of jewel cubes and acoutamass, image center speaker, polk monitor 70's and a custom built sub. For my computer I have a set of Logitech 5.1's with a 10" sub that I forget the model of, Sennheiser HD212 headphones and a couple other cheap pairs for working out and other stuff.
I got my 301's when I bought my RX770, EQ, and CD changer when I was 16. Built in a 12 sub into my room to fill in the low end. Later bought my Bose 2.1 setup to act as surround speakers. Bought my Image center speaker and a 7.1 Harman Kardan surround receiver for the theater, then last year got some Monitor 70's to fill in where the 301's were falling short in midrange for the surround.

I got the black version because i figured it could potentially fit in with more future furniture.
On a side note i also have the Z-5500's and let me tell you, they're great speakers... especially for the price, but i can hardly believe the difference a big set of speakers can make.
@Steevo
I looked at the Monitor 70's/TSi500's as a possible option. They're also great speakers.

Ok I got a Sony 10 inch powered sub and surround sound speakers..
i'm not sure what models they are but anyways
I'm looking for a Receiver to go with em ( my old one died)
But
I want a Receiver that also does Stereo independently But I'm stupid when it comes to that stuff which is why I got a big smile when i noticed a thread full of people that maybe know this stuff
Basically I want to watch movies in surround and listen to music in stereo
But I don't want to use the surround speakers to listen to music i want to use big ass floor speakers for that and i don't want to use the big ass floor speakers for surround So my question is
Is there any receivers that do that?
does this one do that http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882120164

Pretty much every reciever I have seen has two speaker modes: A and B.
A = Stereo - Surround
B = Surround - Stereo
A+B = Stereo + Surround
If you only want 2.1 music, just set it to A assuming it doesn't do it automatically. The problem lies in making 2.1 music play across 5.1+ speakers.

And since we're adding headphones lol, I have a pair of Sennheiser CX300 II earbuds for listening to music on the bus and at school, and the Pioneer HDJ-2000 for DJing and listening to music at home. I need to get an amp though, the iPod doesn't put out enough juice for the Pioneer cans :(

Most recievers will do that. Onkyo is a very good brand. I have the SR-605. If you can afford it, step up to a higher model. They use better output stages in the higher models.

I don't know if it was a bad receiver they had some klipsch's plugged into, but the last new pair I heard sounded like garbage. Muddy midrange, and no fill out of the bass. Probably just a crap receiver though.
I like audio, a good full sound stage, depth to the bass, clean high end and the ability to tweak the sound like I want to hear it. I could care fuck all about the "true fidelity" when it is merely a mix by some sound engineer who is paid to do the most generic to all mix for the majority who have a boombox.

04-10-2010, 02:52 AM
Custom subs to fill in are always best. I build all my own and a high performance sub is way better than the crap they put in most premade junkers. The best bang for the buck would be a two pass ported, and a tight enclosed sealed in two corners driven with a separate amp with no cutoff floor.
I used to run my RX-770 for must my subs, but felt so bad that when I moved out my 301's I moved it back to the bedroom for some good loving music action.
Buy a amp/receiver off fleabay and build a couple subs for a total price of $500 or so and love it.

Understandably so: completely lack of horns, aluminium instead of fiber composite woofers, and the sub woofer enclosure ain't big enough for deep bass like the Klipsch ProMedia systems are. But yeah, they are still in production so it's really only that or the Creative Gigaworks systems and Creative can eat shit so that leaves just one choice. :(
If I had $2500, I'd buy a the Klipsch F-3 system (somewhere north of 2000w RMS total output):

I think I would take this sub (10" and 200w RMS):

The dB rating is lower on it and I don't like how often they say "state of the art." Let me know how it sounds once you got it.
Edit: $629? This one is superior for less money (the sub that goes with the Synergy F-3 set):
Synergy Sub 12 (http://www.klipsch.com/na-en/products/synergy-sub-12-specifications/) 12", 117dB, 300w RMS, 24-120Hz, $500
The only area where it has it beat is in frequency. It depends on how its sounds though...
300w RMS/650w Dynamic is better than 250w RMS/1000w Dynamic. Dynamic is marketing, RMS means business.

Sound would be a hell of a lot better, and worth the extra space needed.
Now, back to Magibag: For the money that sub cost, I think I would've tried for one of the Polk Micropro 2000 subs. You can find them for around $500 new, if you look. Newegg in the US has it for $479. I still want one. Basically a Sunfire design.
But I digress. Tell us how the one you bought sounds. I prefer tight, accurate bass, so let us know.

SNR is lower (screams-cheap low), RMS wattage is not given (660w dymanic--which means nothing)...pretty much everything is lower. My subwoofer alone weighs more than the whole lot (reciever and all)...cheap materials. I don't see how it would be "a hell of a lot better."

I was comparing to the Z-5500. Onkyo underates, and Logitech overrates. I've heard both in person. The Onkyo setup shames them in all areas, without exception. Add to the fact that you can further upgrade the speakers as money permits, and the setup is a no brainer, in all but the most space limited situations.

Well the Onkyo 707 totally and completely kicks the crap out of the sony str dn1000. The difference between the 2 is extreme. The Onkyo is about 9lbs heavier, definitely larger, has more inputs, has a much better EQ, must put out a significant more power (probably close to double), and is all around awesome.

And are you talking about car amps or home receivers for them being more than acceptable. Because i can tell you that it claimed 110 watts per channel over 7 in my case but only had a draw of around 350 watts (which is significantly less wattage than the 770 they imply. That being said it was fairly cheap and did have a lot of features but high THD at 1%).

Well got my sub in now. I'm now running the following:
Onkyo 707 Receiver
2x Polk Audio RTi A7's for fronts
2x Polk Audio RTi A3's for rears
1x BIC America PL-200 for the sub
And the Polk Audio CSi A6 will be arriving as my center channel on June 1st.
I can tell you that the PL-200 subwoofer is extremely powerful and has a good clean thump to it. It definitely puts the Polk PSW505 to shame in a very big way.
So far its a simply great sounding system as a whole.
