Well it looks like they are doing a remake but IMO The Hobbit is a pure classic and shouldn't be messed with.

oh my god, im so glad they are not going to do the two part with a "tie-in" to the lord of the rings. No tie-in is needed, its all already there. Not to mention, adding something to tolkein is just pure blasphemy.
As far as the hobbit being a classic, so was the trilogy, but peter jackson did an amazing job, more than doing it justice. So I'm sure he won't let the image be marred by a shitty prequal. At least I hope.

On a side note: I wonder when that pic of jackson on the wiki was taken. If it's recent, Holy shit! He's lost some weight.

Peter Jackson isn't directing the hobbit, he only wrote up the screen play. Guillermo del Toro is directing.

Seems to be because of:

Jackson explained he chose not to direct because it would have been unsatisfying to compete with his previous films.

It's no different than turning the Lord of the Rings into movies. The Hobbit was a book long before it was made into a cartoon. They aren't turning the cartoon into a movie, they are turning the book into a movie. They aren't messing anything up.


I am looking forward to this, btw. Jackson's extended versions of the LOTR movies did an amazing amount of justice to the books, considering the medium. If he wrote the screenplay, I bet it will be a good representation of the book.

Quality of what? BluRay in general, or of LOTR BD? In general = yes. LOTR BD = I'll tell you when they come from Netflix. lol.

You'll find that most movies that were shot in real film transfer beautifully to BD, as the native res of film is higher than BD anyway.

Well, as long as they don't screw up the encode. Some of the mpeg2 transfers look like ass compared to the VC-1 and H.264 ones. Thankfully, almost all have stepped away from Mpeg2 completely.

They add significant dialog, and generally just follow the books better all the way around. There are significantly better than the theatrical versions if you have read, or intend to read, the books. Actually, they are still better, even if you haven't read the books.

Na i agree, the extended editions are great. Well worth watching, but make sure you don't have anything planned for a good 4 hours to do so.

All this time and I haven't found anything for this one yet. I will still keep my eye out on this but still remain skeptical. I still view The Hobbit as a classic and hope they don't screw it up. :)
