A friend/coworker of mine needs his home theatre and network set up after renovating his mother's house, so he asked me to help him do it. He was just going to pay me a little cash for the job, we're friends so I wasn't too worried about it. However, his mom wanted to get rid of a bunch of junk, and was going to sell a couple of 1977 pioneer speakers. I said I'd do the job in exchange for those, and she agreed! I'd heared them before, hooked up to the original pioneer head unit that they came with, and it was pure mellow, warm classic goodness! I brought those puppies home and hooked them up to an older (albiet not old enough to do the speakers justice, its probably a late 80s model) reciever and listened to Tom Petty and Bob Seger all night long. Even hooked up my shitty fender guitar with a shitty little practice amp to them and it sounded a million times better.
I wish she would at least sell me the reciever. If I'm not mistaken its a Pioneer SX-750 which can be seen here http://www.silverpioneer.netfirms.com/700_series_receivers.htm
but she's not ready to get rid of that part. Not sure why she's so attatched to the reciever but fine with losing the speakers.
I'm thinking about buying one on the bay, but i'd rather buy this one, as just like the speakers, its in nearly perfect condition, cosmetically and as far as I can tell, mechanically, and I know exactly how it sounds. (though one input on one of the speakers needs to be replaced. Nothing I cant do myself though. Plus the cabinets have hardly a scratch on them.) Nothing beats rocking out to classics on vintage hardware.
Anybody else have / like old audio equipment?
