What kind of an asshole names his mod after the death gas Nazis used to kill Jews in the death camps?
Why not name it Hitler or Auschwitz?
What do you think? I reported the guy to the OCN moderators. If I owned a hugely popular site like OCN there is NO WAY I would let a thread title like that continue.
The guy makes the justification that he likes to "push the envelope" yet the mod is nothing special, he's basing it on a mobo that is basically outdated (ditto on the GPUs) and all I see that's "edgey" is the powdercoat.
Sorry but I do not think we should forget our history. To me Nazis are still evil incarnate and the slaughter of innocents is still horrifying. Glossing over this past and turning it into a joke or a meme or treating it like it's nothing special is wrong.

Don't care personally it's the name of a chemical. If I named my pc agent orange there wouldn't be the same outrage. Most people don't know what Zyklon B is nevermind what the nazi's used it for.

"Posting objectionable material" infraction.
It is racist. Zyklon B is being used in context of the holocaust, the guy even made some Nazi-style warning poster. In essence it's glorifying the holocaust.
If there's no specific rule at TPU, or if the case for this being considered racism is weak, we'll just ban you ad hoc, just as we've banned people who made casemods out of sex-toys, who used inappropriate names, etc.

I'm not saying it's right or objecting TPU's rule's just asking what rule it violated. I didn't see the holocaust glorification so in that case yes he was wrong I just thought he used the name.
Edit: Holy shit I was reading through it and I thought maybe it's named after the band but then there is a whole post saying exactly why he used it.

Hell no! Law has no need here, I think they should of just let him keep his thread opened and the the insults fly at him, death threats, beat downs, the whole bag. I admire his choice to machine a few parts himself rather than just buying pre-built pieces. Least he's doing some real work on it rather than "assembling." I also admire what seems to be his girlfriend in the mousepad pic (as it doesn't look like a "professional" pic) lol.
I suppose it's up to the forum. You have to follow rules. If your rules dictate that it's inappropriate, then it is. If it were me, I probably wouldn't care about the name itself (even if it is appalling, he can name it what he likes), but if there is indeed something actually targeting jews and glorifying the holocaust (i can't read German, so i'll have to take your word for it) then most definitely should be closed.

It's only the name of a chemical so it's not a big deal, if he named it something directly related to the Holocaust then I guess it's gone too far.
btarunr

It's the name of the chemical, with the obvious Nazi presentation. So it's presented in the context of the holocaust, not just a chemical name. You can name your case after Pearl Harbour (it's just the name of a place), but if the presentation shows Japs shooting down Americans, or that if someone called his case Jihad (sic) with something in context of 9/11, I bet it will piss hordes of Americans off. Someone naming their project "I.R.A." / Irish Republican Army, will piss hordes of people from UK off. Abo will piss Aussies off even if it means no offense (jk).

I have to agree. The chemical is 100% innocent. It's the assholes that use it for genocide that are the problem.

Is there a swastika I am missing? If no, I fail to see the problem. All I see is him explaining the name is indeed after the nerve agent. VX is far more lethal than Zyklon B but Zyklon (pronounced like cyclone) is a neat twist on the spelling of an old word. Just because Zyklon B has a history doesn't necessarily mean he praises what was done (again, unless I'm missing it).
I wouldn't mind a VX case with biohazard written all over it. XD

It's only since WOII that a swastika became offensive. In many religions it's a holy symbol. I find it quite interesting how genocide can be a tool to ban things. Having a little mustache is offensive as well nowadays, no matter how much of a fan of Charly Chaplin you are.
I could probably carve the TPU logo on my soldiers chests, let them kill a few million "insert people" and then get the TPU logo banned as people will associate it with my deeds.
On the other hand, it might mean something completely different in a few hundred years. Just make a V with your fingers and show it to the French, they should be fine with it nowadays.

Um? I thought that originated with V for Victory (VE day). It means something other than that to them?
The only way for, for instance, the swastika will lose it's history is if something else uses it for something the people generally accept. For instance, if a bunch of "heroes" branded themselves with it before running off to war and they didn't get killed because of it, their deeds may lead history to speak of the swastika in a more pleasant way.

Nothing is offensive unless you find offense to it..
Just because one is offended does not mean another should be excluded That in itself becomes offensive and the cycle continues..
Plus drawing attention to someone who is obviously one of those "Hey look at me Idiots" only brings more fucked up people closer to them..
In a strange way this reminds me of a local News story..
At a College not far from here (Westminster college) someone drew a cartoon and in the Cartoon there was a black man hanging in a tree..
Before anyone even went on with the cartoon to read it fully a group of young Black students protested it and it became a Media sensation..
How could a college newspaper allow such obvious racism in a college Newspaper they said..This is wrong...It's Academic sponsored Racism..etc etc..
Turns out the author was a young black male and he was trying to convey a message of pride in his country..
He was proud because in a relatively short time Black folk went from being lynched and hung to one becoming President...
You may find something offensive that's your prerogative, Just keep in mind someone else may just find that it is neat and by taking that away from them YOU could be considered more offensive than what you found offense to...It's the Internet you have the option to not view it if you find it distasteful.

No. V forward (palm forward) is victory, I believe Dan is going on about V backwards (palm facing you).
During the medieval wars, all the English long bow men that were captured had those fingers cut of so they could not fire a bow again. Hence every time an English man saw a French man, they can insult them by pretty much telling them they can fire an arrow into their ass any time they like. I would think that it would be a nice war cry as well.

To the English, the v-sign is/was equivalent to showing middle-finger.

V with the folded fingers facing inwards = insult/fuck-you. The way Churchill did it = victory/fuck-yeah.

The v sign came from way before WWII,it was originally to show norman invaders that archers still had their fingers. The normans used to cut off captured archers fingers. The longbows they used were awesome at the time, and could go through plate armour or chainmail.

That can get you banned on TPU.
I'm not sure I would allow someone to be banned just because of that. Zyklon B is still manufactured and used as an insecticide to this day. Albeit under a different trade name.
They used cyanide to gas prisoners too, but we wouldn't be having this conversation if the computer was named cyanide. In fact zyklon B is cyanide based.
What if he named it mustard gas? That killed a lot of people too.
How many of you have played a video game where you were a nazi and killed allied soldiers? Is that not extremely offensive?
How many of you played the part of call of duty where you walked through an airport killing innocent people or at least weren't very outraged when you heard about it? Is that not way more fucked up than naming a computer after a chemical used to kill people?
Sorry you're offended, but I think my main point is that this isn't any more offensive than other Nazi paraphernalia that is ubiquitous on the internet. If his computer was named "I use Zyklon B to kill jews" then I would have a problem with that.

I named my computer BEHEMOTH. Obviously, one could interpret that as meant to kill everything in it's path. However, it's in homage to my favorite band (http://www.behemoth.pl) and the fact that my case is huge, tough, and with everything in it, probably weighs >60 pounds (used to have an >80 pound CRT to go with it too).
EDIT: I've also named other items at times, usually based on their characteristics. I call my internet connection Linksys-tan. The name itself was inspired by the OS-tan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OS-tan). The idea of a of a moe anthropomorphism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moe_anthropomorphism) stemmed from always telling my friend that my connection took a poop when it would cut out briefly (up to ~15min) causing me be disconnected from IM in the middle of a conversation. We even developed a whole concept for a one-off manga panel or an OVA/OAV (never sure which is right) about the troubles that her and Ralink-tan experience while trying to communicate across the road (my window to neighbor's window) using signaling flags.

My first computer was called Frankenstein. It was a pentium 3 400mhz computer that I had found in a dumpster (no lie) and upgraded with parts from other computers I had found/bought. Some people also called it the bohemeth because it was massive. Not even sure what brand it was, just an old "beige box" style tower. I got into it because I had played Morrowind on the xbox and wanted to play it on PC so I could use the modding system. And thats how I started building computers lol. Eventually it had a Pentium3 800mhz, 512mb of ram (which was a shitton then) and a radeon (9600 i think?) It was literally pieced together from parts that I had found or salvaged from computers people were throwing away. I bought the video card from a friend who bought it and then it wouldn't work because his pc didnt have an AGP slot. It was quite the beast, and weighed a ton.
My first real build that I made with all parts that I bought was called "Alien? Where?" Because someone (ignorant of all things PC, of course) saw the green lights and flashiness and automatically assumed it was an Alienware.

Terrorizer does do a good job at marketing towards death/black metal more so than most. In fact they are almost exclusively death/black metal.

Exactly, so I would imagine that their readers' opinions are worth something, since most of them already listen to the genre and have heard quite a few bands.
Either way, The Apostasy was over-marketed and over-hyped, but Evangelion was an album that the band put a lot of themselves into to create something they were proud of. Nergal admits to The Apostasy having been more pressured for release, etc. If anybody listens to the albums, they'll notice a huge improvement. Evangelion more than delivered on it's hype.
Besides, I loved Behemoth before they got so damn popular and mainstream, but they earned it through years of hard work and improvement. Polish metal FTW, <3 Behemoth, Vader, Ensiferum, etc.

Yeah dude, Polish metal rules. If you're into Tech death at all, check out Trauma's newest album (just came out). Most underrated Polish death metal band out there. These guys are insane.
As for Behemoth, I enjoy their early black metal stuff a bit more than their newer blackened death, but Evangelion was a pretty solid album.

Yeah yours would be all French or Canadian. Something like Sacré bleu or Manitoba.
'Manitoba is a cess pool infested with mosquitoes and degenerates', would be a good name, but it would have Manitoba in the name so I guess you win that one. The only French I'd ever use was improperly spelled French, Sackray Blue or Jim Apple Fiendo or something. Both of those would be horrible names though, so its obvious why I don't use French. :p

Going by that list, I wouldn't expect you to like Behemoth. I went ahead and highlighted them according to my opinions.
1 = dislike
2 = have not even heard of or listened to enough to form an opinion
3 = tolerable, I might listen to a few songs once in a while
4 = same as 3 except there are some songs that I really like
5 = like quite a bit, but don't listen to a whole lot (or haven't heard a lot, but really like what I've heard)

Like I said before, I don't think it's anyone business except for the individual who owns it. He bought the computer, he can call it whatever the hell he wants. It doesn't matter if it's inappropriate or not.
Just because someone else might find it offensive doesn't mean he does.

I don't. I love instrumental music, but his music just doesn't do anything for me...and his attitude surely isn't helping.
On topic: Fine by me...it's his own computer, he's free to name it how the heck he wants it...even if I don't think it's an appropriate name.

I don't. Technically amazing, yet completely soulless and emotionless music. Him and Yngvie both fail to impress.

Dude, Nergal is one of the best death metal vocalists.
1: You can understand him.
2: He's not monotone.
3: His voice still sounds raw and brutal.
4: He eats cornflakes.

You are very right. What bothers me with him in particular is that he acts as though he's playing that way. And he's over doing it.
Don't get me wrong, he's an amazing technical player, but a very boring one.

Now that's proper guitar playing. And man, that is a swell beard and haircut combo. I miss the old Clapton, prior to his son dying. (Can't fault him tho, it would change me to lose one of my children as well, although I doubt my change would be so graceful. lol)
