Lately I've noticed I've been coughing a lot. It's kind of strange and annoying. I took some cough syrup one night but I don't want to do that every night. Anyone else have a solution to help relieve a cough?
Btw I do not smoke cigarettes, cigars, weed, or anything else.

Go see a doctor if it's been a while.

Cough drops?
Persisting coughs can be deadly, ie Whooping Cough(SARS)

Well it's definately not SARS. Probably just a cheast infection ?

Well it's been maybe a month and a half or so. It hasn't really affected my breathing. I guess cough drops would work.
I've also never had asthma or any other respiratory diseases/sicknesses, as far as I know.

I said that in the first post, but no. No cigarettes, weed, anything.

The commonest causes of chronic cough other than smoking in adults are postnasal drip, asthma, and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease.
Taken from patient UK. It could be uncommon but you should go to a doctor.

Check into acid reflux / GERD like DrPepper said. Have you ever had heartburn? It sounds alot like what I went through around my senior year of high school (and didnt have any heartburn symptoms yet, but it turned out to be acid reflux)

Whooping cough is not SARS. (slap)
He lives in the U.S. so he was vaccinated for Whooping cough too unless his parents are some of those idiots that don't "believe" in vaccines.

Plus if it was whooping cough he'd be gasping for breath after it which would mean he'd get treatment quite quickly.

Who wouldn't believe in a vaccine (slap)
Prime evidence for why asking about health problems on random internet sites is a bad idea.
It's not harmful unless one acts upon it though. I mean take for example if I said well thats a sign of epilepsy and he started taking those meds then it would be harmful. So far we pretty much said go to a doctor.

I just remembered the whooping cough vaccine wears off after a few years. So you can get it as an adult. I recalled a story about my Immunology professor's daughter catching whooping cough from a homeless man on the bus who coughed in her face.
There are lots of people who don't "believe" in vaccines. Either for religious reasons or because they're "not natural". Their children often pay for it with their lives.

Sounds moronic too me. I've been vaccinated for pretty much everything I can get. We stopped getting TB shots in the UK though since its non-existant but I still went and got one.

Go to the doctor. Chronic cough could be anything from allergies to asthma. Anything that fucks with your breathing in any fashion is nothing to take lightly.

You must not consider Dr. Maurice R. Hilleman's opinions to be valid. By the way, he was the Director of the Merck Institute for Therapeutic Research, and is credited with "developing more vaccines than anyone in history." But I guess your immunology professor is more qualified. SV40 anyone?

I understand his post, Pepper, and wasn't posting a dig. A little checking would find that Hilleman's ideas don't run congruent with vaccines being totally benifical. Hence the reference to SV40.:)

I'm with Don as you don't smoke or feel ill in any other way I would lean more towards an allergy...but only a doctor can properly diagnose this so maybe you should at least do an office visit..

That's a possibility. I've had troubles with allergies in the past. Some bad runny noses.

I don't think it's anything serious as it occurs sparingly. It doesn't fuck up me breathing. Usually it's just a build-up of mucus in my throat. I cough it up and spit in the garbage.

Not all vaccines are beneficial. I refused to give my kids the H1N1 vaccine, as it's effects weren't tested long term enough. But they are vaccinated for pox, polio, tetanus, etc., etc.
Not believing in ANY vaccine is a bit silly, but blindly believing in ALL vaccines is just as folly.
And now back on topic: For the last time Rev, go to the doctor. If it's a cough, it's respiratory in some manner, and NEEDS TO BE CHECKED, PERIOD!!!!
Seriously, doctor, end of. No other course of action is intelligent.

H1N1 is just like any other flu virus. I've actually been fortunate enough to catch it and it was a really bad flu and that was it.

I hope the tetanus shot lasts a while. I cut my finger bad this morning in Weight Training putting a heavy dumbbell back on the rack. I managed to ram my finger into the center part that prevents the dumbbells from sliding down to the floor. Shit was rusty.

If it is dark (not clear), you got an infection or virus.

You might need a booster shot if you haven't had one (every 10 years is recommended).

I had a tetanus shot required by law or whatever in 7th and I'm in 10th grade so I'm good.
And the mucus is clear/green, nothing unusual.

Boil 1 Cup of water and mix in 3 Tablespoons of Eldeberry juice.
Drink.
Mrs. Kreij's homemade cough syrup. Works great and all natural.
Loaded with Vitamin C.

My immunology professor never said people who don't get vaccines are idiots. I said that and am saying that. I'm well aware that the polio vaccine killed some people and that doesn't change my opinion. I'm sorry it happened but it was a quality control accident the vaccine itself was not the problem. No human endeavor is perfect. Sabin's and Salk's vaccines as well as standard MMR vaccines have saved millions of lives. If you don't get your vaccines your an idiot and you're putting yourself and the lives of those around you at risk. I don't care if famous scientist X disagrees with me that's his opinion and mine is different. I'm qualified to form my own opinion on the subject. If you want to talk about vaccines with me I would love to, but use your own opinions don't just throw the words of another scientist at me and tell me I'm wrong because he/she is more qualified than myself and those around me. That's just rude.
Hilleman spent his entire life making vaccines so I don't know what out of context quote you're thinking of, but it's quite clear by his actions that his opinion on vaccines was that they are immensely valuable.

Apparently you are the only one competent enough to form your own opinions on vaccines and immunizations. Obviously your opinions have been shaped by the words of other scientists, so perhaps you too are only using your memory and not your intellect. The fact of the matter remains that although you may be a student, your opinions are not the be-all-end-all of modern science. That really does sound rude.
It's quite clear by Hilleman's actions (a fellow Montanan:D) that MERCK found his actions to be immensely valuable.

Please show me where Polaris claimed his opinions were the "be-all-end-all of modern science."
All he claimed was that he's studied immunology and has formed his opinions based on what he has learned, which is not rude at all. Statements like, "But I guess your immunology professor is more qualified." are rude. For what it's worth, you don't even know who his professor is/was, so immediately dismissing him as being qualified to teach immunology is ridiculous.

Generally, when referring to people as "idiots," it often implies a superior knowledge or attitude, or that there is little to be gained from differing opinions, hence the previous statement. I admit it was posted with an argumentative tone, but such brash postings, whether I agree with them or not, always stroke my trigger finger. Also, my original inference towards his professor was not that he was unqualified to teach his subject, but rather that there are other extremely qualified people who don't view things in such black and white terms. However, in my error, it appears that Mr. Polaris has not garnered his views from his prof, but came up with them on his own accord.
All this being said, I'm not an anit-vacciner. I have had all recommended inoculations throughout my life, and recognize the benefits of modern Western medicine. I do disagree with the notion that all modern immunizations are created with the best public good in mind, but rather a willingness by corporations to create a false need for new medicines, whether they be shots or pills. If you disagree, thumb through a magazine and count the adds for prescription drugs.
Thanks for your time, and your willingness to defend a fellow GNer. It's not often I get to type a response to Jesus. I always assumed you knew what I was thinking. And thanks for not letting my girlfriend in high school be pregnant. I was damn worried, but you answered my prayers.

I don't feel like going back through and re-reading the discussion, but I think he only called idiots those who don't get any vaccines.
I'm also skeptical about a lot of the pharmaceutical corporations, but I see doctors who I feel that I can trust to inform me of what does what and let me decide for myself whether or not I need it.
BTW, I did get her pregnant, but then I answered her prayers for an early miscarriage so you wouldn't know.

I never said you have to agree with my opinion and it most certainly isn't the be-all-end-all of science. I'll admit I should be more politically correct some people have sensitive feelings so I'll rephrase in a more acceptable manner. I guess I was trolling a little, but forgive me because I do feel passionate about the subject.
It is my opinion that people who do not get their vaccinations are increasing their own risk for crippling and deadly disease and harming the public health. However, I do not believe flu vaccines should be obligatory because their benefit to the general population truly is dubious.
Quite frankly I think you're misinterpreting Mr. Hilleman's fear of simian virus cross contamination in outdated vaccine production methods with a disapproval of vaccines in general. The only place I can find him saying vaccines are bad is a untrustworthy 911truth.org video.... I seriously doubt a brilliant man like Dr. Hilleman would let himself be shackled by Merck and forced to do something he didn't believe in. He would have to be one greedy sonofabitch to do that.
I'm sorry I dismissed the opposing opinion so flippantly. That was rude of me. I really would like to hear where Dr. Hilleman says vaccination programs are bad because I can't find it and I would like to read it. I'll admit I am missing this information. Nobody knows everything.
