anyone on the forums into lasers and such?

I have a 8x Blu ray burning laser in a cree, romisen host @ 355mW coming tomorrow. This laser will pop balloons from a distance of 15+ feet, light matches and fireworks and even cut through vinyl tape. I'm looking forward to the balloons and maybe some insects lmao.

I'm also going to paint the inside of my empty shed with glow-in-teh-dark paint.. since the laser will cause the paint to react to the pointer as it passes by it.. leaving a sweet "trace" effect... oh i feel nerdy!

So, anyone into this hobby? :D

i like lasers, not super into them though, used to be years ago when i took a red 5mw one out of an old laser disc player(man was that thing heavy and dangerrous at the same time http://i.tpucdn.com/forums/images/smilies/laugh.gif) i think it had a 8 kv strike up voltage and very complex circuit to run it
i've got a dual coloured red/green laser pen thingy at the mo ,not as fancy as what your getting though :D

yea it looks legit. I have no fucking clue what it would be used for. It recommends wearing protective gloves when using it because of the heat it generates, and you can't use it for more than 3 minutes at a time for fear of meltdown. As for power, its a custom rechargable 1.9v battery.

I hate these things. Do you realize how dangerous those lasers are? With the problems we have now with them green lasers blinding airlinepilots, can you imagine this thing when the kids get their hands at them (get close enough and those blue ones will blind you in an instant)? Lasers are cool, yes, but people are retards.

Yep. its just that technology changes the way they try to kick the crap out of each other.

I want lasers that are MORE powerful. I want to be able to use one as a plasma cutter if the need arose.

Yeah, exactly. Ohhhh, I want a plasma cutter laser too. Would come in handy on the bolt that is in an impossible location and just got rounded off.

I think.. what would be cool (and if you have too much cash), would take the most powerful lasers that you could buy from somewhere, and had like 5-10 of them, put them all together in a "case" of some sort and they were all connected to a trigger..

Thanks BP, I just thought I'd post a few places that have a good rep for selling good quality lasers at reasonable prices...well for the ones that are thinking of grabbing one and using them responsibly that is (toast).

(CNN) -- "Star Wars" creator George Lucas wants to force a laser company to stop making a new, high-powered product he says looks too much like the famous lightsaber from his classic sci-fi series.

Lucasfilm Ltd. has sent a cease-and-desist letter to Hong Kong-based Wicked Lasers, threatening legal action if it doesn't change its Pro Arctic Laser series or stop selling it altogether.

"It is apparent from the design of the Pro Arctic Laser that it was intended to resemble the hilts of our lightsaber swords, which are protected by copyright ... ," said the letter, dated last month and provided to CNN by Wicked Lasers.

The letter calls the company's newest laser "a highly dangerous product with the potential to cause blindness, burns and other damage to people and/or property."

just got my new Ray Foss 50mw Green laser and I must say... WOW!!!!

Pop's black ballons from 5ft away, pokes holes through black trash bag's and light's matches (blue tipped) which is harder in 3sec...

That laser from Wicked laser's has jumped in price to 300 usd and as far as I know nobody has yet to receive there Arctic laser.

All we need is a few kids getting there hands on one of these and we can all kiss our chances of getting nothing but a cheapo Radio shack <5mw red cat play toy.

there was such a rush on them that wicked builds to order... that thing is real dangerous.. a weapon if you want to look at it that way... that thing will blind you faster than you can say FUCK!!!!

I'm now an addict, I just paid for a 200MW Ray Foss laser...

I did the 4-5 day delivery as I cant wait much longer!!!

Faona is great, she's replacing the standard wall charger with a corded charger + she's gifting me a pair of laser safety glasses and a spare LC 18650 battery :D

Na Im greedy lol, I want 2 high power lasers incase by chance one dies which I doubt will happen unless I for get to cycle it.... 60sec on 5-10 sec off to cool it.

Here is a cheap 50mw green laser I also picked up.... i cant burn with it but it's just as bright in the sky as my Roy Foss focusable Laser...

This store is a great online retailer for cheap but great quality....

you tube Ray Foss Lasers for an idea on what you can expect power wise and beam wise burning comparisons.

The led light shoppe has a great 25 dollar laser pointer but like I said above...

Go better by spending a few extra bucks and get a burner...

If you need advice just ask, I been checking out alota threads about lasers and think I can give some great advice. (toast)

well. i did some work in a project at school. and i have laid out the ray diagram of the setup myself.
you see, i have figured out that lasers is all about geting a high intensity at the smallest area possible.
just think of how much power i will be able to get from a halogen lamp :D.

I received my 200mw Ray Foss laser today and WOW!!!! is this fucker ever bright!!!

I'm glad I got the safety glasses with this laser.

It lights orange colored matches as soon as it touches the beam @ 5ft away.

pop's light colored balloons at 10 ft away in 2 seconds when focused to infinity...

Pokes hole through black plastic CD holder in 3-4 seconds when focused and at 1 ft away

Stings skin it 2 ft away lol

*update* it just lit my cigarette in 7sec lol.... eww!

I dont think uv is going to be the problem unlike the IR it emits...

I know my 200mW sure stings the skin, I couldn't imagine what a 1w laser would feel like lol

well I did it again, I ordered a 200mW red water proof laser + a 50mW pen style Blue Ray laser and a true green 100mW pointer.

2 of the 3 will be here this week so once I get them I'll post some side by side beam comparison shots.
