I can't believe this...
"Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.
- Wendy Dio"

So sad.
From wikipedia Ronnie James Dio (born Ronald James Padavona; July 10, 1942 – May 16, 2010) was an American heavy metal vocalist and songwriter. He performed with Testament of Apollo, Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell, and his own band Dio. Other musical projects include the collective fundraiser Hear 'n Aid. He was widely hailed as one of the most powerful singers in heavy metal,[1] renowned for his consistently powerful voice and for popularizing the "devil's horns" hand gesture in metal culture. He was collaborating on a project with former Black Sabbath bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice, under the moniker Heaven & Hell, whose first and only studio album, The Devil You Know, was released on April 28, 2009.[2] On the morning of May 16, 2010, he died of stomach cancer. He was 67 years old.

skip to the bold if you don't give a shit about where the horns came from
Assuming that you're referring to the hand sign, it's usage hasn't been "the same" for a very long time. Dio was one of, if not the, first musicians to use it on stage, but he didn't invent it. He already knew it from being raised in an Italian family. He talks about it in an interview, but you can read up about it's usage in Italian superstition (even though it's not Italian in origin) here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corna#Superstition) and here (http://sigime.blogspot.com/2009/01/maloik-malocchio.html). I forget what he said his reason for using it on stage was, but I think it was just because he liked the way it looked or something.
Anyways, yeah, he basically invented it as a sign for heavy metal, which is awesome, but it's already been abused and misused to the point of having almost no real meaning anymore in today's culture, and everybody thinks it means something different.
My point is, that regardless of how amazing and influential he was (and he was quite a bit), his death is not going to change anything about the horns.
I have no idea why I felt like pointing that out, but enough about that
Everybody go listen to his music and celebrate what he has given us in his lifetime. Mourn as you may, it's healthy, but also come to accept that while his body has departed, he will live on in our hearts and in our music for many years to come. (toast)
edit: Dear lord, I must be off my rocker, how could I forget this? Rest In Peace, Ronnie James Dio . . . rest in peace.

I disagree with your disagreeing. How many people that use it actually know Dio started it? It won't be different in the majority's eyes, because they just don't give a shit, and think it's just cool to do. It has become a goddamned cliche.
