K so my parents are hosting a party for my brother's birthday. The main guests are aged 13-16.
And I'm to get the music
There'd be some kids age 7-10 as well, but I know which couple of Hannah Montana / Justin Bieber songs to throw in for them since my daughter's the same age.
My problem's to have something for the main young teen audience: what is 'popular' music amongst today's young teens? Personally I have Bass Hunter, Infected Mushroom, Benny Benassi and some David Guetta etc... but that's all in one style and it's "my" style i.e. heavy techno bass. But it's just techno and not everybody would like that.
I need to know not only which is the current popular techno, but also the current popular pop music, metal music, rock, reggae... whatever... etc... to get a some compilations for a good variety of current popular music for today's kids youths. :)

If I heard that shit at a party I'd probably break the w/e teh fcuk is making the music.
Take this advice from a 16-year-old (me).
Play whatever is popular. Go on iTunes, look at the top songs and pick any of the rap/pop songs that are popular. Unfortunately, many kids my age really don't listen to any rock unless it's something really catchy.
As for artists, look for Kid Cudi (all lot of people like him, his music is actually decent), David Guetta and Benny Benassi are good, Lady Gaga I hate but many like her, Lil Wayne, and anything similar. Here is a link to some popular music on YouTube, it should give a little more incite on what would be good to play - http://www.youtube.com/music
Also, try to avoid slower songs. For parties, upbeat music is best.

Seriously though, if it's a 16 year old kid, let him take car of it himself.

lol yeah, if anybody tried to pick music to play at my party at that age (or any age) based on suggestions for what's "popular" . . . idk, I might have to punch them.
Is it a surprise party or something?

Not really. Well to cut a long story short my brother is fostered. His biological mom used to abuse alcohol, heroin and meth during her pregnancy. He has good genes weren't it for the environmental effects incurred during his bio mom's pregnancy. Anyhow he isn't your average 16 y/o guy... He's not some retard - his looks are perfectly normal, in fact very handsome, tall, slim and muscular but (I don't mean this to be cruel, I'm being serious) it's like he's got short circuits in his brain - he can't stop moving, he's always hopping and jumping around all the time. The only time his body rests is while sleeping. Perhaps that's why he is so lean. And he can't learn. Just like his body, his brain is continually 'hopping' around and he can't pay full attention to understand anything as it's meant to be.
Both academically and in life-skills my 8 year old daughter beats him hands down. He's a certified dyslexic, attention-deficit and extremely hyperactive. Even is entitled to an extra personal tutor/facilitator at school. He can barely do normal conversation because he'd try to discuss 20 topics in the same argument, without managing to start one of them. :/
He beats me totally pwns me in pc games.... but he can't play a game unless he's standing up. I'm constantly "repairing" his pc - he'd hit the tower and throw it to a horizontal position and dislodge stuff inside. :(
Sorry for this being so long, and kinda sad.

Does that mean he has no preference in music?
If he doesn't, then find out what the "main guests" you mentioned are into.

He's got my same techno preferences :) But he'd be happy listening to Benassi & Basshunter all night long whereas I wouldn't.
You're right (slap) I should ask him what he thinks his friends like.
Basshunter would be quite monotonous after 5 or 10 minutes!

Anything from the Now That's What I Call Music! CDs are what's popular, so try Now 75, 76 and 77 if you can get them.

I'd do it right now if I was within driving distance of him. He deserves it for even thinking about that.
