I'm not sure I'll be able to pull it off, but I've gotten almost all of the episodes of the original Dr. Who series starting in 1963. My intention is to watch all 27 years worth of episodes, but watching in b&w looks like it could be a little bit of a drag. What passed for acting on tv back in the 60's is slightly more abysmal than today but should be tolerable.
First episode - the unearthly child. The doctor and his granddaughter are forced to leave 1963 London as the result of some meddling school teachers.

have you added up how much time it would take to catch up?
My big thing is show The Young and the Restless. Yea I know it's LOL, but I have watched it for about 5 years now.
As with Dr. Who it has been on forever, and 5 days a week on top of it. I would love to catch up on the whole show, but it would take a very very long time. Also I have never found a back up of it tho sadly.

there are 712 episodes :D ;)
I guess I'll need to check the actuarial tables to see if I'll be alive that long.

297 hours (at 25 min/episode)
but that's only a little over 7 40 hour work weeks. hehehe.

Wow. I was looking at the chronology on wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Doctor_Who_serials) and it is absurd how many episodes are missing. Tapes were either reused, stored improperly or whatever and many episodes simply don't exist any more.
The first season seems to be mostly in tact except for the Marco polo episodes (although wiki doesn't have them as being missing).
there is a joke at the beginning of the keys of marinus about the tardis not having a color tv. I checked the history and even though the NTSC standard was adopted in 1954, by 1963 only about 3% of US households had color. European broadcasters were several years behind. Dr Who's first color episodes wouldn't be for another 7 years (1970).

With the tardis being held hostage, the crew has to teleport around the planet to find microprocessor keys to insert into a mind control device in order to get it working properly again.
The middle episodes where they are gathering the keys are a little boring. The last 2 episodes involve a murder mystery that I thought was engaging, but then I love murder mysteries - especially the UK variety (Inspector Morse, A touch of Frost, etc).

Started watching the next episodes 'the aztecs'. It looks like it's mainly historical like marco polo, so I might skip it or at least blast through it. I'll try to get through at least the first episode.
