How do you browse GN?

Do you keep up with threads via your User CP?

Do you view the top ten most recent threads at the top of the main page?

Do you view different areas of interest?

Did you stumble upon GN and just forget to leave?

I use the new posts button and view them all as one page.

I'm not going to lie . . . before my internet took a major poop, I seriously did have FF open 24/7 with at least one GN page.

Emails with new posts, though usually when there's like 15+ I just mark all as read and not read them lol, I also use the latest posts column.

If I did the email subscriptions, I'd be afraid to ever check my email.

Actually i don't get the threads i post in on my CP. I like it this way (although i'm not sure its meant to be that way) because it means i check out others.

I have automatic thread subscription turned on (I think that's default). I like that, because I generally like to see replies to the threads that I've posted in, just in case somebody replies to me.

I'd really love an RSS just for subscribed threads though.

thanks man, but isn't that a generated feed? I know almost nothing about rss but I thought to have a real feed you needed an xml link or something. generated feeds don't always work properly. Like the time stamp - you'll get like a 5 or 10 links all with the same time stamp.

theJesus

No. Firefox finds the RSS feeds on the site. The top one links to http://www.generalnonsense.net/external.php?type=RSS2
The second links to http://www.generalnonsense.net/external.php?type=RSS2&forumids=6

I assume you could enter a different value for forumids.

interesting - thanks. i guess the timestamps are always screwed up then. oh well. I don't really mind keeping a tab open for gnu anyway though.

I assume the timestamps are screwed up due to the update intervals of the feed itself and/or the client you are using.

edit: I've never come across an RSS reader that updates in "real-time" and I doubt much, if any, feeds do either. It would waste CPU and network resources.

exactly why I don't use e-mail subscriptions lol

They automatically get filed into a seperate folder. Doesn't bother me I'm collecting them.

I use filters for all my emails too, but I don't bother with email subscriptions because I would never check them. It's easier to just look at my usercp.
