Found this on eBay. Sounds cool :o. However, anyone know something similar for less? Also, is it more usable as a home device or could I like take it on a plane trip? 7 inches seems a bit big.

Well looks like they have the Archos 5 which has a 4.8" screen instead of a 7" screen which I would prefer but it's $100 more for some reason.

I don't know how reliable Archos is. You should try to check that out.

But if you don't need this right now, there will be a metric butt load of android tablets between now and xmas. I just saw one recently that will be available that has a split screen. It fold in half and each half has a different kind of screen. Think I saw it in the current PopSci.

I think the Android devices are going to eat apple's lunch in the same way that the android based phones are (or at least soon will). They're just behind the curve for now.

Well I was hoping to be a Christmas present anyway. I just want something that I can take with me and not just use at home.

Archos is pretty well-known for things like this. I believe they made the first "open source" handheld gaming device. You could actually get the schematics and add modules, arduino devices, that kind of thing to it. Then install a minimal linux and run emulators for gameboy, PS1, even N64 ran pretty good on them. I'm pretty sure you could easily ditch android and install your favorite linux distro on this pad, possibly even windows if it supports the hardware. Im interested to find specs now.

EDIT: I'm liking the samsung thats posted when you click on the "competition" link in the article. Looks like a huge Eternity with android, which would just be kickass.

Are you talking about the GP2X or w/e? I didn't know that was Archos.

I do know that Archos made some of the first MP3-players, which were the first rockbox targets. Now they seem to just make really fancy PMPs.

at 4.8" you might as well get a droid or evo, the evo even has a better resolution. both have everything that "tablet" rather mini tablet does but can do a lot more.

I just noticed that this only has 8gb of storage. I only ever considered their devices worthwhile for their usual 160gb+ HDDs lol.

Naw, GP2X was by some korean company called Gamepark I think. It wasn't the first, and the GP2X wasn't Gamepark's first either. I dont remember what archos's model was called, but I'm pretty sure it came before the GP2X's company.

Least thats how I remember it... I could be wrong I suppose.

Oh yeah, that's right, GP is for Gamepark, isn't it? Never heard of the Archos one.
