Hey guys, I read that you have to use DIN keys (the u shaped things) for Ford stereos.
Would a clothes hanger work too? I want to swap stereos but I'm too cheap to buy a set of keys

Yea, coat hangers work... the hard part is getting a new radio in... damn faceplate costs like 75 bucks...

I usually wind up bending the damned coat hangers. I use 4 nails, works like a charm.

I got a used Pioneer DEH-P3600 in there now. It had a mounting bracket of some sort, and I just crammed it in there, it fits snug as a glove. No more DIN keys either, but it's gonna be a bitch to get out.

ah ok. my escort is a bitch... the taurus is a bit easier. In the escort you have to buy a whole new faceplate with a bracket on the back. I tried taking mine out thinking maybe I could cut a hole in it and cut into the bracket that holds the stock one in, but I would have had to fasion an entire new bracket to hold it in, and I just dont have the tools for that.

I took this as I was doing my wiring (adapters are a godsend, lol). but you can see the little slot for the Taurus stereo. It's quite nice, and tomorrow I'll get a better picture of the new unit installed

Let that picture be a lesson tho. Never get too lazy to take off your faceplate. I lost 3 car stereos that way. Once was in a parking lot at a bowling alley.

yeah my sister had hers jecked out her 78' camero about the same amount of times.
haven't had an issue with the newer vehicles though, might be because they have alarms but IDK.

Sadly, it wasn't laziness on my part 2 of those time. My hands were full, and I just forgot to go back out for it. Once in front of my house, and once at my brother's.
The bowling alley was the first time tho. Never expected it to happen in a parking lot during active business hours. Learned a valuable lesson on that one.
