So what the hell

Jacob, and the MIB lived on the island before anything was there.

Then Jacob throws the MIB into the light which turns him into smoke

Then Egyptians moved to the island????

They build the statue of birth that Jacob lives in??? Why? Why this statue?

Under the temple it appeared that they worshiped the smoke monster there. Why?

Why is that temple there? Why is there the pool there? Why did it change two of the lost people into smoke monsters that couldn't change into smoke?

Why wouldn't Jacob let his brother leave?

Couldn't he of turned off the light, fixed his brother and let him leave? Odd that Jacob was allowed to leave anytime that he wanted too.

Why was there dead people down in the hole of the light? Makes one wonder how old they could be if they are before Jacobs step mother.

Also why did the smoke monster change instantly, when two other people went in and nothing happened to them. How did Jake just chill in the water, and his body washing up like the MIB without being a smoke monster.

Most of your questions can be summed up in two words: "poor writing."

I read a writer interview somewhere where some of them basically said they made it up week by week, and not believing the suits were letting them get away with it.

That's not to say it wasn't an entertaining show for the most part. I mean, The Wizard of OZ is terribly written, too, but it's still entertaining.

A bit amusing to me is how a writer can get praise for one written work and be hated for another. Jeph Loeb was a Lost and Smallville and Heroes writer, three generally well-received shows. Then he wrote the "Red Hulk" storyline in the Hulk comic book, and the only reaction I've ever seen for that is hate. Can't win 'em all, I guess.
