View Full Version : Did you know you could power your car with wood?

I was watching last years colony show on the discovery channel, and they showed something called woodgas.

First they took a 55 gallon drum, and then they took one of the old metal gas cans.

They filled the little gas can up with just wood chips.

Then hooked a pipe up to the old gas can and pumped that into a homemade generator>powerwasher/2 car alternators.

They lit the fire inside the 55 gallon drum with the small can sitting in the fire, and when it gets around 450F inside the gas can hydrogen gets released. Which they used to power the generator.

Then they took this same idea, and powered a truck with it using two 55 gallon drums and an old radiator to cool the gas down(for extra hoursepower they said) before hooking it up to the carburetor.

The guy said during WW2 that in some countries they ran out of oil. So they converted their cars/trucks to run off of this system.

I just pulled up this video(didn't really watch to many to find a good one)to give an idea.

If the world ends I know what I will be building.

Here is a traitor running off of this system.

I would like to know if you could run this system off something fuel injected.

Yeah, if it burns, it can produce power through steam. I'm thinking you'd get more efficiency out of steam than just burning the hydrogen.

You can't run normal cars/trucks/boats and so on with just steam tho. To use steam \you would also have to have to have water.

Sure you can, and we did back in the 1800s and early 1900s. Steam is vaporized water. Almost all sources of power, include some water be it for cooling or for turning something.

I'm talking about converting motors that we already have.

Oh, no, but we wouldn't want wood powered cars or we'd turn into Haiti. They cut down all their trees for heat and now they have horrible soil erosion which led to famine.

You can ferment wood chips into methanol and burn that too if you want to.... but why would you want to? Deforestation to stick it to the man?

Yes, my brother and I ran a lawnboy engine off of wood smoke. Ran like shit, but it worked.

You can also get some copper tubing and put that in your fire, use a check valve and a small water tank and always have hot water that is sterile while camping.
