Just wondering how many people here play instruments and what those instruments are. Posting videos of performances and what not are strongly encouraged.
I personally play guitar, unfortunately I don't really have an amp right now and my guitar is a no name Gibson knockoff.
I made that video when we had a guitar thread going at the main TPU forums.

I was going to play guitar but didn't have enough motivation. I have a good, general (and specific) knowledge of music though even though I don't play an instrument.

Hell anyone can be a DJ, it's not that hard, especially now that everyone's using shitty laptop mixers that automatically beat match for you instead of proper CD players like the CDJ1000 that you have to manually beat match with. As long as you play the same generic crap everyone else in the club plays, it doesn't even matter if your beat matching is off. That's why I hate the club scene here. It's either indie/electro shite, hip-hop which is awkward cos you're the only whitey there, or gay/lesbian night which is awkward because you're the only straight one there.

I dunno, that sounds like more excuses to me. My setup sucks hard and i don't even have an amp. All i have is a $200 guitar i bought about 10 years ago.

CD is no better than laptop mixers. Vinyl is the only real mixing art.
As for the main topic, I play guitar, and drums. Ihave no drums, however. :(
All self taught. Can't read a note of music.

I like how with the exception of few topics things were always better or more pure back in the day.
I say psh, Vinyl is no better than CD or laptop mixers. Conducting an orchestra is the real mixing art ;).
Also Wile e you need to make a guitar video and post it here.

Well heres the situation. We live with a guy thats letting us stay here for free until we can get back on our feet (We will be reimbursing him electric when we can). We live in an apartment on the second floor and basically hes paranoid that any loud noise is gonna be heard throughout the complex. So i have to play when hes gone and i really only like to practice in the middle of the night (Night owl so im up then). Right before Quakecon i tried vacuuming my heatsink for 2 seconds and he came out and yelled at me for it being 1am. I used to vacuum our own apartment at 3am and nobody cared. Hell i would drum in the afternoon and nobod cared
Not only that, but i went from my half stack to a 15w Crate POS and my sound is all fubard. I still play, but not to the extent of when we had our own places. And on that note, i havent been practicing and my stuff that i do is basically on Youtube already anyways.

Well the laptop mixers make it a bit easier, not that it was that hard to mix on CD anyway. All I know is vinyl is the hardest to mix on.

I play some keyboard, self-taught (like wile e, can't read music :D), and I have a guitar, which I can't play for shit lol.
I have a lot of fun messing with soft-synths since I have a midi-keyboard. I record for friends occasionally as well, since I've got a nice interface.
I'm lazy and never really bother with any of that anymore though lol

hmmm, suprised why i never seen this thread before - I play drums, guitar, bass & some keyboard/piano - I got my grade 1 before i said fuck this shit n went to play something more modern.
Im a bit of a jack of all trades fairly good'ish mainly on guitar as its my main instrument. Im wishing i had a drum kit at home as id like to practise more, I dont get to practise anymore since everyone in the band i was involved with ended up going our seperate ways. I would like to play guitar a little more also. but I play better with/in a band rather then as a bedroom guitarist.
I like the energy being a band gives and i find its very easy to come up with new riffs n other stuff when jamming with others. otherwise I havent got the heart to just pick up the guitar n grind scales for a few hours everyday.
what I normally tend to do is pick the guitar up n cover a few dream theater, opeth or Versaillies tracks before practising a few hand/finger stretches n some odd scales before putting the guitar down. but every time i do it. i dont really feel that ive learnt anything at all.
& i dont just like being part of a band because the other instruments cover up my mistakes lol. of course we all make mistakes but thats what rehersal is all about
theJesus
08-21-2010, 08:35 PM
I've tried to "jam" a few times before, with my keyboard, but I just can't do it. I always end up ignoring what everybody else is doing and playing something totally different lol. Then I come up with something they like, while I'm just messing around, and they tell me to keep doing it, but I've already forgotten it lol

I've got EZ drummer as well, but I haven't done much with it. I'm sure I can set it up to have each drum mapped to a different key on my keyboard, but it would be nice just to have something like the Korg nanoPAD (http://www.zzounds.com/item--KORNANOPAD).

I wouldnt mind an electric drumkit - Yamaha make pretty amazing ones at that, but nothing feels better then sitting behind a real set of drums.
theJesus

Electric drumkits are cool because you can choose the samples for 'em :D I can't play drums at all though, so I'd prefer a pad. Cheaper too.

drums can be pretty fun to play. depending on the size of your kit - you can come up with hundreds of different fills n grooves, its some funky shit bro
theJesus
08-22-2010, 05:14 AM
I'm not made for drumming, it takes too much energy lol. I can tap out a few beats, so I'm happy with that, because I'm most comfortable at the keys.
edit: Actually, I'm most comfortable recording midi tracks and running those through soft-synths while I edit/mix them.

I play Rockband, Rockband 2 and The Beatles: Rockband.
IRL I have limited skill with the guitar, I played the drums for years but I also haven't in years. I've played bass practicing with a friends band, and in school I played clarinet.
I'm not very good, I know some chords, and can kick out some riffs but I don't practice enough.
I have a Dean ML, some Rogue electric guitar and a Crate amp.

Actually i only wore skinnier guy pants. They are labeled male, and you get them in the guy section of Hot Topic. Chick pants usually are tight around the crotch because the zipper is shorter and are low rise and usually flare out near the shoes. My pants where usual guy pants at the top to not squish the dick and where tight all the way to the shoes. They also wernt low rise so they wouldnt show off crack.
