Today in school I switched into Weight Training for 2nd period instead of Team Sports because my Team Sports class sucked (the class itself is cool, but there's all faggots in it). So 5 days a week I'll be in weight training. Only problem is that we only get like 35-40 minutes in there. Now I can go to the Y after school to workout, but I've heard it's not in best benefit to workout more than once a day, even if they are for shorter times.

So the days I can go to the Y are Monday and Thursday indefinitely because my dad lives next to it and I'm at his house those nights.

Can someone suggest what I do? What I was thinking is like Monday and Thursday I do minimal lifting and then just go after school and the other days just go full on everything. I would like an opinion though. *Cough* Paulieg *cough*

IMO, weight training requires at least 1hr of actual lifting with 10-20min warm up. Weight training is specialized in building muscle mass, and doing shorter workouts could be prime for pulling a muscle due to not enough stretching.

Build a weekly workout regiment; I think my old one was alternate days between Arms(pecks, bi/tri's, and shoulders) and legs(cavs, thighs, and butt). Back and abs everyday unless you start to notice your too sore to do back-situps, then push it into it's own day.

Do you have an instructor for this course?

Yeah I had it last year for a semester. Our time in the weight room is limited by the length of the class period. He gives us the reps, sets, and the amount of weight for us to do.

Normally, when I workout at the Y, I do a day of upper body then the next time I go I do lower body (abs, lower back, legs). In the class we do upper body M-W-F and lower body T-TH.

I read somewhere when your young you can get by with 4 days a week. Middle age 5 days a week, and late in age it's 6 days a week.

My gym teachers always taught us to do 15 min upper, 15 min lower, 15 min middle, and then 30 mins in what you want to work on that day.

Yeah, a class full of branches and twigs would suck.

WOrkout frequency and time depends on what you want to do. Bulk? Lean and fit? Stew-Roid vascularness? :D

+1. We need to know your goals. Also too, your age can play a huge factor. At 16, I couldn't hardly build any sort of mass, but by 22, it was easy.

Mainly bulk. I like the way it makes me look and feel. However, I may join the weightlifting team this year (season starts near the end of the school so I have time to build more strength). So strength as well.

And yes everyone in that class was a twig. Like I swear some of those kid had to weigh less than 100 lbs. I weigh like 160.

I'm 16. I don't think that's entirely a limiting factor though. I know a kid who is my age, doesn't take steroids, but he looks like the Hulk.

Lol, seems like a good remedy.

I have found PCP works best when taken in suppository form.

Hmm, bulk is definitely going to be tough. There are a few guys that are huge at 16, but the skinny guys that can pack in the food and never gain a pound far outweigh them.

If you want bulk, then you are going to need protein and calories out the wazoo. Basically find your maintainence calorie and bump it up by 1500. High weight with a lower number of slow and controlled reps seem to build the bulk the fastest for me. Also important for bulk and with any kind of training is to give a day to rest after the workout. Never try to workout the same muscle group two days in a row, you won't get anywhere that way.

Here was my formula for bulk.

Warm up with light weight and high reps. Usually 80lbs and 20 reps for bench press. Then bump the weight up to say 150lbs with 10 reps. Then to 220lbs and 2-5 reps, then back down to 175lbs, 10 reps, then 100lbs for 15 reps.

I don't know if that is good advice or not, but it worked for me.

Question: What the fuck is the Y?

Also I am on week 3 of the hundred pushup challenge. Search for it and perhaps start that as a bit of light work out three times a day.

YMCA its kinda like a gym but its more of an "activities" center. Not like the fair but kids go their alot. its like a kids gym. they have all sorts of activities depending on how big that building is. ranging from dodge ball, swimming, chess, or weight rooms.

40 or so minutes is tons of time for weight training. The real only issue i suppose is that you'll probably have to wait for some of the equipment because of the other students and such.

Really you can do some pretty intense 20-30 minute long workouts that are immensely beneficial. i find at the gym people spend WAYY to much time sitting around and resting between sets. If you're resting from 1 exercise go do another in-between during the rest period that works an opposite muscle group.

Yeah like I said I usually alternate between upper and lower body to avoid overworking.

I already do protein. Have been doing it for a little over a month. I may start creatine soon - assuming it's worth it. What kind of gains does creatine give?

The Y = YMCA. Very nice community center, the gym there has plenty for me to do.

Well see that's what's good about my class. It's shorter but I must admit it's a higher intensity than when I go the the gym. We have groups that we work together in spotting and shit, and we all do the exercise like 2-3 times (however many sets our teacher tells us to do) and we move onto the next exercise. Forces me to work faster and I get to do things like benching and free weights, things I normally shouldn't do without a spotter.

Here's what we did today:

Warm-up: 2 sets of pull-ups for 30 seconds, dips for 30 seconds, and reverse curls for 30 seconds
Main exercises: 3 sets of 8 close grip bench
2 sets of 8 military press
2 sets of 10 hammer curls

We will be able to do more eventually but there are a bunch of noobs in the class who need instructions first. So once we get into a routine we can get probably twice as much done.
