Ok guys, just had a life changing event over a job i was offered then 4 days from start, was told i didn't get it due to paper work issues. Well ever since i got out of the army last year, i have had a lot of trouble finding a good job, i even went to college and i am almost finished with my AS degree in electronics engineering. I have been thinking of going back into the military but wanted to go some to a branch that i would learn a lot and get a good experience (which i did in the army but want a more technical job instead of kicking down doors). I need some advice from former or current air force on what IT jobs are good and which deploy to combat or not. thanks guys! if i go i know i will be happy and make a good living. i only have about 18yrs left till retirement so i want them to be a happy one.

AF told me they are the AF not the Army....You don't go to war with the AF.

That is incorrect sir, on my second deployment to iraq, we were stationed on an airforce base in kirkuk iraq. The whole base was ran by AF and we just ran our day to day operations in the province. Not to call you out or anything and i mean no disrespect about it.

I think he means the AF doesn't do actual Footwork Warfare like he Army or Marines..

I think the AF would be a good option for you as they do have a lot of technical jobs.

But you will likely get to do base patrol while your trained for those jobs..

Air Force is good for what you want. Having been in the army, I think you already knew that though.

Here's a link to Air Force Jobs http://usmilitary.about.com/od/airforceenlistedjobs/a/afjobs.htm

If you're looking for something techy, look to the "support" section. As for what gets deployed and what doesn't... having been in the army, you should already be aware that every job in every branch is "deployable." If you clean toilets, and they need a toilet cleaner in korea, off you go. That being said, for specific jobs of course you're less likely to be deployed. Be a systems admin of some sort, and hope you don't get assigned to setting up ethernet connections at a new base overseas or something. If not getting deployed is a priority... I'd say stick it through with your college and do the best you can outside the military.

BTW, how do you have 18 years left till youre eligable for retirement? You can retire after 20 years, How'd you do a two year committment?

Go back into the Army as 25B. Take the wonderful world of the internet to every corner of the world.

You already know the ins and outs of life in the Army. Stick with it.
