View Full Version : NPR. As Left As It Gets Or Your Tax Dollar At Work?
During an appearance Monday on Fox News' "O'Reilly Factor," Juan Williams http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juan_williams said: "When I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous."
National Public Radio has fired Mr. Williams (a 10 year employee) over the phone for making this statement.

Interestingly enough, Billionaire Liberal George Soros www.soros.org/ just donated 1.8 Million to NPR. This was to hire reporters to go after Fox News.

Fox news is just FAR right(along with others I heard on the radio this morning), and share no views with people close to center left nothing but far right views.
Fox is eating this up, because it happened on their watch after being SLAMMED on the View the other day.

If people in traditional garb make Williams nervous I can only guess how nervous he must get surrounded by all those White People at Fox in their traditional garb of Suits and Ties. You know what makes me nervous? Nothing. People need to get over their prejudices and learn that the world is a huge melting pot of ideas, cultures, religions. Not everyone is going to be wearing Dockers and a Polo shirt mkay?

I'm glad Muslims/Arabs/etc. wear what they wear. What if traditional garb was buttless chaps with socks on your cock? That would be frightening. That would be something to really be nervous about. Well, now I'm being prejiduced against gay biker community. Fuck, I can't win! I'm a God dammed hater. :(

just the flamboyant gay bikers and they're too busy with cocktail hour to notice so i think you're cool.
regular gay bikers wear regular biker gear the only way you know they're gay is the fact that dudes ride on the back and even at that most biker chicks are pretty butch so it's hard to tell.

Maybe yu should take a look at the employment contract he signed (and violated) before you go screaming about censorship. He broke his contract and was fired. No different then you or me. Big difference: He had a 3 million dollar new contract from Fox News waiting for him and a flashy "scandal" to boost ratings.

both, and due to his salary it actually counts as 60 jobs save and 60 jobs created so 120 in total.

Fair enough, but a lot of people have. And it seemed to be the "gist" of this thread.
But anyway this is a tempest in a teapot "scandal" designed to do one thing: Boost Fox News ratings. Hell he knew he was violating his contract making that appearance and did it anyway. He had been formally warned more than once.
His firing was completely justified.

Meh, as far as appearing on Fox News is concerned, I don't think anyone should be barred from appearing on any news organization. If they didn't like what he said, that's one thing, but to come down on him for being on the network is pretty lame. That's a lot of people that could/would be exposed to NPR that necessarily wouldn't be.

As I said before, it was explicitly stated in his contract as a pundit on cable news shows (not just Fox). If he didnt like it, he should not have signed the contract.
I remember there was a scandal a few years ago where a girl working for Haliburton was brutally raped while working in Iraq. She was barred from bringing charges in the States because it was stated in her contract she could not. The Right defended this up and down, saying if she didnt like it she shouldnt have signed the contract. This is a girl who was brutally raped by more than one guy, kept prisoner so she couldnt go to a clinic and get a medical check (and of course a rape kit) and the fact that she could not bring charges was defended by O'Reilly saying "Well she knew what she was signing when she signed the contract.
Buy now some douchebag wing nut gets fired for violating his employment contract and Fox News is screaming Censorship and pumping this story up and down its media empire.

I totally agree, although I think Sesame Street started going down the tubes with the addition of Elmo, and I've heard that Cookie Monster doesn't gobble as many cookies to fight childhood obesity.

I don't blame Discovery and History for turning to Reality. You can only make so many documentaries on World War II, Vietnam, and Presidents before people get bored of it. At least there is some substance to the reality shows History and Discovery runs unlike your Big Brother, Survivor, and other BS reality shows you see on the major broadcast networks.

I have a slew of old school disney programming like The Wonderful World of Color and etc. that i'll throw on every once in a while. I also have their sing alongs and movies. I find the disney channel to be a brainkiller these days so I pick the content directly.
My daughter loves sesame street and elmo and most of the time it's decent, not as good as the old days but I have some of that on video as well.
I don't know if any of you get Qubo but I find most of those shows ok also, not quite in the same league as mr rogers or reading rainbow, but much better than the other crap that's on.
oh and my daughter also loves Sid the Science Kid on pbs, kinda annoying for me, but educational.

In the end, then, local NPR affiliates derive something like 41% of their funding from taxes, either directly or indirectly.

http://townhall.com/columnists/DavidStokes/2010/10/24/we_are_all_bigots_now/page/full/
Williams’ remark was not only a reflection of common sense; it’s common sense that’s widely shared. I find myself feeling the same way on occasion. A family member who recently flew to Detroit told me that after the plane was airborne, a man in “Muslim garb” (you know it when you see it) got up and bowed down in the aisle for some reason. Everyone who saw it was uncomfortable and it is doubtful anyone slept for the remainder of the flight.
It was clearly an aircraft filled with bigots.
The problem is that the people at NPR suffer from the same disorder as do Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, and a growing multitude of naïve Americans. They fail to acknowledge the clear Muslim threat to America and our way of life. And when someone dares to mention the “M” word, some liberals are like 6-year olds with hands over their ears and yelling, “Blah, Blah, Blah, I Can’t Hear You!”
But it’s worse than childish behavior on their part; it’s willful ignorance.
Here is a very important distinction between what those on Sept. 11th did, along with the Fort Hood shooter, and others would have done elsewhere if not prevented. They attempted or did what they did IN THE NAME OF ISLAM (emphasis on purpose). Timothy McVeigh did not proclaim “Jesus Is Lord” when he blew up the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. In fact, truth be told McVeigh was a professed agnostic who said he worshipped science!
The attacks nine years ago that killed 3,000 Americans were not just done by people who happened to have grown up in a Muslim country, but they were done IN THE NAME OF ISLAM (emphasis, again, on purpose). When Nidal Hasan climbed onto the table last year at Fort Hood, he cried, “Allahu Akbar” (“Allah Is Great”) before opening fire. He was not a nut who happened to be Muslim; he did what he did because he was Muslim. This distinction must be made again and again because it is clear that some Americans simply don’t get it and others have long since lost interest.
Islam was the reason for the Sept. 11th attacks and every attack or attempt since, according to those who planned, funded, and implemented them—without exception. And no one involved took time or cared to make a distinction between “their” Islam and the kind some others profess to believe.
As for NPR, its extrinsic media role in America is once again glaringly apparent. Proudly (arrogantly) portraying itself as a voice of objectivity, the slant of most of the news elements shared on its member stations is decidedly to the far left.

Not that I entirely agree. There are a lot of muslims that aren't violent.
As for NPR, as I said previously, they should be defunded. If they can't survive on donations/adverts alone, the broadcast should be shut down. The government has no business in the media. The first amendment should point out there is a conflict of interest there.
Do any of you even know where NPR gets 94% of it's funding?
