I've been out of the basic/'dumb' phone market for a long while so I need a little help and possibly first hand experience.

The Razr I bought my mom years ago is on its last legs so I would like to replace it for Xmas. She doesn't stand a chance learning how to use something like an Android, WinMo, or even an iPhone so it has to be a reg phone (no touch screen either). Im not talking Jitterbug basic, just the modern day equivalent to the Razr, and preferably a flip phone. It would be great if it had a similar UI as the Razr, but from what I have seen so far that is unlikely.

I refuse to buy a new Razr as a replacement, although I will consider it as a last resort.

Thanks!

Samsung makes good basic phones in my experience. My Hue still works very well after 3 years of use.

Unfortunately, the technology used in and features of basic phones hasn't changed a bit since about 2005/6 (from my carrier at least). They want you to pay for that data package so bad, they absolutely crave it.

You know you shouldnt underestimate your Mom. My Mom thought that no way could she own a smartphone. But now after 6 months with the mytouch 3g she has it down pat and loves it. We use skype on android so I can call her for free from my iphone.

Anyway just a thought.

Women of all ages love Quick messaging phones...
Even if your mom doesn't use her phone often or claims she doesn't like to text she will like it..

Their are no phones out there like the Razor V3....That phones build quality was so good people are still using them 5 years later...They are on top of reception as far as flip phones go and dam close if not the best of all time...
So just know whatever phone you get her it'll never have as good of a signal...

Now the closest you will find to use of the UI will be a Samsung Quick messaging phone with a Qwerty keyboard...

I know you said no WIN7 phones but those phones are the easiest all the phones Ive ever used...They are simple as shit to use...Seriously I think even a 97 year old retard could figure em out....

or you could check out any of the Nokia 63xx series

I saw some old man playing with an iphone 3gs in my local supermarket, his sitting on the bench playing with it,should tell her that learning new things is fun just like my dad right now is learning how to use computer little by little on his notebook.

SJ & JM- Thanks for the heads up, I will check out what Samsung has to offer.

To everyone else - Like I said, no smart phones. She explicitly said she does not want one and I know when she is serious :D I'm willing to give her a pass on the phone since I have already introduced her and my dad to HDTV, Bluray, and PCs.

Thanks for the replies

imo, most people would say the E815 is a better phone than the V3 other than for looks. It's sort of the spiritual successor to the mighty Startac. Either way, they're both made by the same company.

Kind of funny how "good build quality" is defined nowadays. A Startac could probably survive World War 3.

Do they make anything like KRZRs now? Plenty of people liked that phone. Was like a mini RAZR.

Go to phonescoop.com and user their feature weighted phone finder. (http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/finder.php?w=w)

You can look at all of the features available on any and all phones, weight each one by how important it is to you, pick the carriers you prefer, etc, etc. It is the single best resource on the innertubez.

Follow up: Anyone know of a reputable website for unlocking GSM phones (not an iPhone)?

Agree about Samsung, and i'd recommend also a sone ericsson. these two devices have the simpliest menu, that fit to peole who don't want to go deep into all this stuf with new gadgets.
