View Full Version : How is your mental state?
I was browsing 4chan the other day, hoping for some insanity from the bottom of the human scum. When I stumbled across some creepy pastas.
Naturally, I went to the main source of these entertaining stories, which is creepypasta.com for those wondering, and had a read. And what a read. I read almost all of the stories there.
Now, I am aware that those stories are made up, ment to disturb and scare the reader. I also considered myself to be quite rational, and sane.
But fuck me I can never look at a mirror the same way. Some of those stories are just... well they do their job of raping your sane mind very well.
So yeah... how is your mind putting up with such things? Are you the kind of human who shrugs off even the creepiest of stories with a laugh? Or do you belong to those who let the light on during the night?
Just wonderin' (u)
PS: I'm the kind of guy who laughs it off - but keeps a watchful eye on that mirror over there...:p

Once you're comfortable with your own mortality, you don't worry as much about poorly defined and likely non-existent threats to it. There are an infinite number of ways to die, so cataloging even a tiny corner of that vast realm is either fetish, insanity or, probably, both.

Well said. That being said tho, I might just be a little insane. After all, I have an imagination that is on par with that of Spongebob. So when reading a spooky story, my mind produces images. And what has been seen cannot be unseen. I'm an adult, I am a rationalist. But still... that bit of childish imagination left in a brain set up to function in modern society... doesn't let me trust mirrors now. I mean come on.
Maybe I should buy a vacuum cleaner now. Maybe the settling dust in my flat is responsible for my thoughts... or it plots to kill me.

When I was a kid and scared of monsters in the closet or watched a horror movie or something and was hiding under a blanket, my dad said, "So if there's a monster or a guy with an axe, do you think that blanket will stop them?"
I thought about it, and then stopped hiding under the blanket.
If you want scary or tragic things in your head to be toned down, picture that thing, hear that thing, how it sounds, how terrible it is, and then turn the picture black and white, shrink it down to a tiny size, make the scary sounds into cute little mouse-like squeaks like in a cartoon, etc, and notice if you feel better. Feel free to also, in your head, make yourself 50 feet tall, and then step on that "scary" thing.
You could also do things like picture your life's past, present, and future in your head, and rearrange your memories and future memories so that things further in the past have less emphasis than present or future things. You can literally (in your head) put bad memories behind you.
You could also do things like create a Heads-Up-Display in your mind for certain things you need to keep track of or notice throughout the day, but that's a different topic.

For a second there i thought you were gonna make me fill out a questioneer on how sane i am. because Im borderline psychotic - and when i get agitated, i have a nasty lil twitch in my right shoulder and i start walking like a zombie
snip
Actually thats pretty effective. I go by the line of "If a monster is after me, I'm going to punch the living (or dead) shit out of it. If it happens to be a formless entity, I think I'd offer it some porn magazines and discuss the evolution of trees with it.

You're not insane, you're just infected(r)

You deserve what you get if you go looking for shit and find it. Mental state is highly dependent on your outlook. So look out.

I never hear stories and go "Wow I'm scared to die now." Just shrug it off. Happened to someone else, not me, why should I worry.

There's too much real world shit to worry about that I have no intention of finding other ways to scare myself.
It's weird because when my OCD used to be really bad i was a literal ball of worry. Now, I play the spread.
Lately my mental state has deteriorated in other ways though. I've been sick for at least a week and looks like I won't be able to dig out to get to the doctor today. Maybe I can get it together for tomorrow. IDK.
