I know its damn near impossible to name any one band from that decade but Ill leave my top 3. Please no one younger then 30 needs to vote. Anyone younger didn't experience it properly. I mean you can vote but no one will listen lol.
1. Tool ( They brought back the listening album. Think Pink Floyd)
2. Primus (Les Claypool. Best basses of ALL TIME)
3. Nirvana (For bringing grunge to the masses.)
So many more great bands from that era but those are my top three.

I order of importance:
Nirvana
Green Day
The Offspring
Ok so The Offspring could easily been replaced by 20 different bands but they were the most influential to me. :D I still listen to them occasionally, only Smash and Ignition though the rest of the crap sucks.

I loved their early stuff. However their last album was a little to "mainstream" for my tastes.

Lots of great stuff out there, but the one I always go back to is Pantera, Cowboys from Hell, Vulgar Display of Power, and Far Beyond Driven are just amazing albums. Many of the bands of today, and even bands on this list took major influences from them, good stuff.

I love "Walk". But list your top three man. I could say Black Sabbath is better because it influenced Pantera. Who cares! I want TOP THREE!

I'm under 30 and grew up in the 90s, so my picks would probably just earn laughter so I better leave it be.
The 90s were a one hit wonder decade anyway.

Walks up there, but it's the most played on the Radio, I would say Domination and The Art of Shredding are possibly my favorites. Sabbath is great, and did influence Pantera, but too old to be 90s.
As far as top 3, not sure if I can put them in an order, but
Pantera (as already stated)
Megadeth (Symphony, Insomnia, Crush'em, and so many other great songs, not to mention, they have been great for 3 decades, we'll see what this one hold for them, their last album was amazing)
Disturbed - Yes this one is extremely main stream now, theres a few others I could probably fit in this spot. But The Sickness was an amazing album, their vocal style was a stand out, and the continue to stand out and make great stuff. Also got to have a pick late in the decade, the other 2 start off so strong right in 90 - 91.

Pantera and Megadeth Ill buy even tho they are not really 90's related. Hell the Stones had a great album in the 90's but I wouldn't call them a 90's band.
But Disturbed? Come on man. They cannot even hold Anthony Kiedis tube sock.

Eww. Get out of here with that Nirvana shit. Only reason I agree with you on this is because they pioneered grunge, but I can't stand their songs. Smells Like a Teen Suicide...

Megadeth was technically an 80s band, but their height was the 90s I guess. But IMO Killing Is My Business is their best album, followed by Peace Sells then Rust In Peace.

Also, Mailman, you could be my dad, too. BUT growing up in the 90s was da bomb music wise (and TV shows). I may not know every underground shit that was released, and I don't look at that decade with that grown-up distance I look at todays music. And thats why you should listen to us 90-boys - we goddamn lived that era and we lived that crappy ass music the 90s consisted off - but we also lived the classic and it fills me with nostalgia every time I hear the cords of "Thubtumping" or "Whats going on" or hell even "informer".

They didn't pioneer anything. They just had the first #1 hit and that was because everyone was sick of glam rock. Screaming Trees among many others were around WAY before Nirvana. Again anyone under 30 need not apply to this conversation.

I don't know if you have wi-fi at work, but there are some good internet radios that also do am/fm. Even in the NY metro area, finding a station that plays straight up rock and roll is tough. There is one really good station in NYC that plays rock and alternative rock going back to the 80's. But it's not an oldies station. They cover current acts too. It's like listening to really, really good college radio.
Aside from that, there are a only 2 other stations I can think of that are primarily rock - one at the shore and one up in NW Jersey. It's really sad.
I tend to listen to Last.fm but I just read some good things about a site called grooveshark.
I'm just getting into internet radio and range of choice is nothing less than overwhelming.

Give them another shot. I went thru a big period of not liking them, but then I revisited them 5 or so years ago when they released their Love Reign O'er Me cover, and I couldn't figure out why I ever disliked them, aside from maybe that whole period of Jeremy being super overplayed.

Kill 'Em All is by far my favorite, and honestly I think it's slightly better. Except Orion... Orion is god.
