i have inherited a Sony MHC G50II
its a mini hifi
it seems to be playing audio CDs bought, but when i try to play some thing i have burned on my computer (as audio cd) that fails to run!
*(&%$%^*
this only supports audio cds,
This is probably from 1995.

so how to burn CDs that will run in this?

1995? Try special audio CD-Rs. My parents have that ancient CD player that won't play common CD-Rs, but it takes Audio CD-Rs burned as an audio CD.

You may not be able to. Burnable CD's use a pigment derived from bacteriorhodopsin. "Burning", IIRC, darkens small patches of pigment to encode either the one's or zero's (don't remember which).

Commercial CD's are stamped in foil with lands and pits. A lot of early CD players can read the lands and pits but not the light and dark areas on a recordable cd.

edit: by "early" I mean prior to recordable CD's becoming common.

edit2: If you are using CD-RW disks, try CD-R disks instead.

I doubt you can play them.

Not necessarily. The CD player my parents have dates back to the early 90s, like '92 '93. I think they got it pretty soon after the CD came up in Europe.

And it takes those Audio CD-Rs.

Like those. (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-Audio-CDR-80-10pk-Jewel/dp/B000070GBU)

They were designed to copy an audio CD as the copyright fees are included in the price of the discs. Also they worked only in special writers as I could gather, but that doesn't really apply anymore today.

They're a bit more expensive than regular CD-Rs, at least they were (I haven't used an Audio CD-R in ages), but they do work in pretty much any CD playing device that has problems with ordinary CD-Rs, such as early CD players or the first portable CD players.

Man, those were the days, 15 seconds Anti-Shock technology, fuck yeah! Look mate, I can shake my discman for five seconds and it doesn't skip, its UNBELIEVABLE!

Use different discs. Older hardware can be more picky. Those special audio CD-R's mentioned above are actually not a scam in this case.

Also, wrong forums.

Most likely not as todays writers can write anything anyway. It was an issue when that stuff surfaced back then.

Also, wrong forums.

I'm sort of like an idiot savant (think Rainman). I had encephalitis and spinal meningitis as a child and it fucked me up. Some things I can do very well. Other things I struggle with and can barely do at all. So "brain dead" is a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the idea. BTW, if that was a compliment, thanks. If not, well, thanks anyway. :)

You should post tech-related issues on TPU.

Remember... at least you do have a thanks button there...:p

This will probably only make your situation worse, but you have my vote.
